  1. Well that's appreciated ! Let me get my hands on one first though, I don't want to just take for no reason. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  2. The age old arguement though... Criminals are that for a reason. Poachers will poach no matter what. Unfortunately the best way to stop this is giving the info we have to the Dec. Called it a tip, or snitching but we are the eyes and ears in the woods. There is still obvious room for change on the legal end, but we can do our part too. It's tough to swallow when the neighbor kills your #1 hitlist buck but if it's his 3rd buck for the year that's just not fair in my book. I work my butt off for these deer and follow the laws ! I'm not gonna stand by if I hear or see something otherwise. Call me a snitch if you want but I've made numerous calls to Dec. I actually have a few on speed dial. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  3. I can't be the only one with pics / kills ?! This is one of my favorite parts of hunting... I love having the cam action on a harvested deer ! I'm getting my bow buck from this year mounted just like the pic too, head down and mouth open. I have mounted my others the way they were when I shot them but that pic stuck with me and I think it will be sweet to have pic matching mount. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  4. Couple reasons. Plinking with family and friends, it's a sweet semi auto design, and the Dec finally clarified the laws for coyote hunting in non rifle areas. During any deer season you can only use rimfire if a non rifle area. The verbage used to be very vauge and you could basically read it either way. I want to be able to yote hunt around home during deer season ! It's a cool little rig and has some good range reviews for accuracy. And last reason is, I just want one! lol. 5. Walk through the woods was a bust... Tons of fresh yote tracks and only one set of fresh deer tracks. Had dad on stand while I walked. Home now, lunch, then back at it to finish the season with dad at the farm. Hoping "alpha" steps out to taste some last minute lead. Also hoping I was able to motivate a slightly discouraged hunter into trying out a new piece of dirt. Oddly enough there's a potential for a 170" to pop out too, so I think it's enough motivation to finish the season in the woods, and NOT on the couch. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  6. I'll take a dirty one too !!! Thanks for the tip, but im never hesitant to tear a gun apart and get it clean if I have to Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  7. I probably came across as negative. I'm just not as appreciative of the kills that happen behind high fences, that's all. I can admire a 200" anyday....but appreciate is another story Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  8. Well, at least it ain't yours ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  9. Hmm. I could be wrong about the newest generation of hunters but, I don't think so. I can't speak for Moog or the Greek goddess but if I am able to voice my interpretations of the two......As far as Moog goes, I read the post. I also am fairly confident Moog will get right back to his mature buck passion. His reminder buck wasn't a reminder that he wanted backstraps for dinner, it was the fact he could see himself getting caught up in the chase and not enjoying his hunt... (My interpretation) As far as the "new hunter named after a Greek goddess" SHES NEW ! She showed sincere interest to learn about hunting deer. I don't recall her saying she wanted to fill the freezer and call it a day. Again, my interpretation. Do tell where I misinterpreted. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  10. Nyantler, I can't agree more. I'm after mature bucks no doubt, but I get so discouraged when I hear the personal put downs.... I'm prob guilty of some of that verbage to an extent in some of my posts. I'm always encouraged when I hear success storys and know that the feeling some have on their harvests is the same as when I tag a hitlist buck. I'm certain there has been more excitement and quality memories made over spikes and fork horns than over some of these book bucks. I can feel the excitement in some story's told and quite frankly I dont get upset or mad if it's a small buck. I get upset when hunters put themselves down because they didn't shoot a 130 or better, or its not as big as some people have posted up that year. It's a changing world and hunting is following suit. I don't want to get too deep but reality is the whole "family" structure is changing. Both spouses typically work, every kid is a winner, same sex marriage, gender issues, divorce rates, suicide, heroin etc. We are slowly losing grips on core values that this country was built on, as the media forces this crap down our throats. How that relates to hunting...? It's no longer a family thing. The chances of someone not raised in a hunting family that just decided to pick up the sport is slim to none and if it happens that hunter has heard a million stories or watched Grampa strap a deer to grammas dodge diplomat hood as a youngster. They are coming in to a world of Michael waddells and Jim shockeys. They see giant bucks get killed on the internet and want a chance at em. They may have buddy's who have 10 years senior on them who may have a couple mature bucks under their belt. Now when that hunter heads out, hits the stand, gets all amped up when the first racked deer walks by he takes it, but then his buddies see, or the web sees and now he knows it's not as big as others yet feels the need to down play his success. I guess I'm off on a tangent here and need to shut up, there's just a lack of sportsmanship and gratitude for the opportunities that we have and others have. We are all entitled to our opinions and most will be different but with a new generation of hunters coming into the woods the demand for bigger bucks seems to be the trend that may be influencing the Dec to change laws to meet the demand of the next generation that will be responsible for liscense sales once the "meat" hunting generation is gone. 11. 250 with 246# of useable meat. Get Ur facts straight man ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  12. Sweet. I think you will be satisfied. I'm happy with my vortex at a third of that price ! My next optics will be FFP be sure to show your range reports ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  13. It's raining and I'm being a fair weathered hunter.... In the "meat shed" for the evening Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  14. Not officially on the wall yet but yes.... I'm gonna do a canvas or hi quality print under each mount Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  15. So torn on this topic. I don't know what the best thing is. I know for me, MAR would be welcomed to my "style" of hunting and would benefit ME alot. I think it has to benefit the majority though. I get the point that new hunters could get discouraged and want to quit, but ANY amount of research done prior to starting to hunt will reveal that hunting is far from easy. It takes alot of effort to succeed. If any new hunter thinks that they will score the first even second or third year they are already setting themselves up for failure. Ar or not, I don't suppose you will have a MAJOR success increase for newbs. Regardless, i would expect a newb to shoot the first deer or whatever deer they want ! I know when my kids start hunting I'll be encouraging a good shot, at any deer they see, not waiting for a mature or AR type buck. Again, I don't know what is best for the majority and don't think I have any right to decide that. I do think that if we had AR that we would all start seeing bigger bucks, as now the young ones get a pass. I think NY has a great potential to be on the top end for big bucks. It may be a tough couple years but if your area has any deer they will be bigger the next year, and if your concerned that your area has barely any, it can't get worse with ARs, right ? Might you have to pass the only deer you see? Yes, but so will everybody else (legally). He will live to breed and hopefully leave your area with more deer than he came there with ! Now I'm just guessing at this stuff, and I'm biased to ARs because of my style of hunting. I am however trying to keep an open mind on others arguements and I can definitely relate and agree with most of these opposing opinions. My biggest hope is that the DEC makes the best calls that will benefit hunters as a majority, and the deer herd. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  16. Hey, you could be dragging a tag !?!! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  17. Looks like a nice fatty !! Where was first shot ? Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  18. And take a pic or 5 at the hit sight ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  19. Gut shot is prob gonna require a second shot (today) and liver is good after about 4hrs. Judging by what she did, I'd take a guess at one of those 2 shots. The hit sight is important to see blood and hair, but NOT bumping is more important. If you do get down to investigate, don't look down for sign, watch where she went and use your peripheral to get to the hit site. And if you didn't know, liver will be dark blood almost black/purple, gut shot u could prob smell... But will have slime, chunks, greens and browns with minimal bright red blood. 20. I agree. You Def lose bragging rights when your inside the fence. A 200" is a trophy no matter how, but sure doesn't make a good campfire story when u explain how the hunt was inside a fence. Nice to look at, but I'm a fan of a good story. 3 years of hunting him or shot on gramps farm with his old gun, state land harvest, longbow etc. It's not about the investment either way, yes you pay taxes, liscense, camo etc. I'd still say you have a better story or more of a "trophy" if you spend 50k on land and 2k in gear and kill a 120 on your place Vs spending 3k on a fence hunt. 21. Def give her time. Bedding down quick is a good sign. Let her lay as long as possible. If you can check blood without bumping do that then get out. If not, hang tight. Give her hours and be ready with a follow up shot. If I had to tell you when, I'd say 2pm. That way you still have a few hours of daylight to track. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  22. Interesting night. I saw one small Toyota, a large Chevy with a plow and a giant John Deere. Seems the redneck field racing crew was out. Toyota died, Chevy got stuck and the Deere saved the day. Thankfully the Deere had 4 wheels on the back and made the path back to my stand much easier to drive on. Unfortunately that was the only deer I saw, and I don't have a recipe for the green ones. Mon-tues I'll be after em hard. Gotta punch at least one more tag to hit my hotdog quota. 23. Hey ! Ur out there !!! Hellz yea !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  24. No, fair chase. As in fair chase. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
  25. I can understand why people would do a fenced hunt. As far as I'm concerned I could never PAY to get a deer, 200" or not. I also feel as you lose the reality of the hunt when they are caged in with you. The only "guided" hunt I would ever want to do is a fair chase in Saskatchewan. Something about freezing your nuts off at the chance at a 300# deer sounds fun to me. My favorite part of the sask deer is they can be 300# and 180" yet the racks make them look like 2.5 yr old 120's compared to the body. Yep, I'd pay to get a chocolate racked sask monster. High fence 200, nah I'm good. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
