I'm really surprised at the lifespan of others mucks. Literally, I can't pinpoint but my arctic sports are 8 or 9. I have worn them from turkey to sheds, bow to muzzle then coyote for all those years. No there boot used. I have supplimented with the arctic pros for the last few years and kept using my sports for anytime I had a walk ahead of me. Also use them for cleaning the driveway or any other chore type duty all winter. They are in great shape and don't leak a bit. They are a bit loose with normal socks and the insides are still perfect. Maybe I just got a lucky pair ? I also stayed away from the Woody's cause I refused to pay extra for the camo. The sports are basically the same thing just black and the pros are rated a bit better for cold and they are brown. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Maybe for 18' we can get a mod to make a sticky for the youth updates, experiences and harvests. I don't want to NOT see it in the live thread but I think it will be a great way to open this site up a bit to the youth. I don't know, anybody have a better idea ? I just know that we argue about the usual, fixed or mechanical, full inclusion xbow,ar's, racks or meat.... But one thing I KNOW we all agree on is that seeing the future generations out in the field is unarguably encouraging. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

And I'll tell you this, if having a few bad years concerns you to the point you would just stop hunting..... Stop now and do yourself a favour. I can promise you as other will attest, you will have some bad years BUT in a matter of minutes that can all change. Lots of ways to increase your odds out there, bit without the right attitude and patience you will not enjoy your time in the woods. Start there ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I'll never give up my secret ! But, one day while cleaning a horse stall I fell on something hard and my bum has hurt ever since.... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Muck hands down. Went through a bunch of others before trying them as I didn't think a rubber boot could be warmer than a pack or leather etc. I have the arctic sports and arctic pros. Sports are prob pushing the 10 year mark and I still wear them all seasons. Turkey to Yotes. Pros are bigger so I use them for long cold sits. You won't be dissapointed. Already getting great advise. Couple tips of my lesson learned.... Merino wool socks and hand/foot warmers. Give yourself some room in your boots Arctic shield is a suit I swear by( I'm a wimp in the cold), can be had very cheap on eBay and will last you a long time. Take a snack, something that doesn't stink to bad or make noise. I like apples, as they kill two birds with one stone. (Just don't take a dozen,as baiting is illegal in NYS year round) Play the wind. Most important thing you can ever do ! Deer will trust their nose 99% of the time even if they spot you in a tree. Find the food. Woody browse areas, ag fields, apple trees, acorns etc. Get yourself on a good wind side of a run that goes from bedding areas (typically the thick stuff) to the food. Now, for the hard part.... The money ! You do not need anything fancy to kill deer but things can definitely help you Some of my favourites in my arsenal Thermacel heated insoles Handwarmer pouch Wicking first layer Merino wool baselayers Arctic shield suit Ozonics Good binos Trail cam's Wind checkers Nice pack to carry all that crap A comfy seat cushion Scope caps Etc. Etc. Im never scared to go in the woods, rain, snow, cold whatever. I'm a firm believer that you cannot kill anything from the couch !! Consider your time in the woods a time to learn, and if you score it's a bonus. Knowing what the deer are up to is YOUR advantage. Pre rut-rut-lockdown-chase-2nd rut-food, know where your area is at and hunt accordingly. You also gotta get creative sometimes because doing the same old thing doesn't always get you that target buck. Man, I could go on forever. I love being out there. I love seeing big ones and small ones and trying to figure out where and why. Pay attention and you will get it. There's a solid group on here that will love to mentor you and give advise to help ! Good luck !!!! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

So, my taxidermist has gone out on his own and left the very popular shop he was working at. The guy is amazing and will be the ONLY guy I ever go to. I'm just trying to throw a plug out for him as I want to see him succeed at his new venture. He's done just about anything with fur and I know he's broke the 1000 mark for whitetails. I don't think you can get a better mount for less, anywhere around here. I also know if you mention I sent you from this site he will give you a nice discount. If you need a good taxidermist look him up. I guarantee your happy !! Wareham taxidermy on Facebook or Call 607-661-6953 Jamie. Located on Bryant hill in the machias / franklinville area. A cool gun with a cooler story on why it's mine.

That is a cool story. Im sure it will serve you well ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk -
Full story in the harvest thread, but I wanted to post up here too. I have been on the kick for a 10 for awhile (or big 6), have never broke the 9pt mark till Saturday. I'll have to get the official tape on him as I green scored him at 142+ without deductions, and he may be my largest scorer to date. I'm not all about the score, just all about mature and he definitely is. I'm guessing he's 4.5. I had no history with this buck. Just right place at the right time and thankful the savage worked as advertised ! Still can't believe I made a 183yrd kill shot with a slug gun ! I am seeing a good second rut coming soon and hope other on here can benefit too. Good luck !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Dropped my cape of at taxidermist ( Wareham taxidermy on Facebook...) And spotted the whole ride down. Saw alot of 2nd rut activity. Couple different big guys chasing hard. All those that haven't been seeing much or have lost hope, be ready. I think this next week could get real good ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

My wife will do canvas for the pics. We give it to dad for Christmas. Did it with the last one too. Gonna try and get a good one with yesterday's buck too and do a double from my bow buck. And I agree. Mark my words, when dad is gone I'll be a mess. Not sure I'll know what to do with myself. He's sacraficed everything to buy some dirt for us to enjoy, which means the world but without him joining me in the woods. Hoping my son can fill that void. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I know there's a bunch on here, and I can't list all the names but reading all the posts and seeing the success storys really makes me proud. I'm currently in the waiting with my 4yr old son to get him out actively. We hit the blind early bow and had a blast. He loved it but as any parent in that situation knows, I enjoyed it more. I just wanted to throw it out there that I'm thankful there are still parents and mentors out there who are willing to get our future in the great outdoors. How many can say they have memory's of dad, or grandpa, uncle etc ? I know I have plenty of those and I hold them deer, I mean "dear" to me. There's so much wrong with the world this day and age and I'm beyond nervous as a parent. It really makes me comforted to know there are others out there with similar upbringing and willingness to pass this great tradition on. I have had one hunting partner my entire life, my dad. Yesterday I shot a giant and dad had went to a family function with mom. I made the phone call from the field but without him there, it felt weird, like something was missing. Just another big deer down... And it was also a reality that tomorrow is not guaranteed for anybody. So my hopes are that someday I will be that partner to my son, and him to his. So thank you, parents and mentors for taking your kids or other kids in the woods. As I just finished this similar talk with turkey feathers, I got my buck...I was so proud that he was able to get his daughter on her first deer. I remember putting my phone away and just thinking and dreaming of what that day will be like for me and my son. Then I score a giant, and realise without my partner, it's not all that awesome. I immediatly call my son, but a phone call can't compare to walking up together to trophy. On that note, thank you again for doing what your doing, the world needs more folks like you, our kids and the future generations need more like you !! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
