  1. Bull barrel keeps muzzle jump to a minimum. Accuracy isn't the major benefit. If you do follow up shots, it keeps the gun flat and ready to send another quickly. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  3. Without investing a ton of time, I looked at 2 different state land areas. I started with terrain on Google maps, looking for natural funnels, which there's a bunch, so I followed all those funnels to see if there's an intersection or a flat area. Then I turned on satellite mode and looked for natural breaks in the trees / different color shading of the canopy. There is a few funnels and areas I would check out if I we're heading there. Lines I drew are funnels, X's are areas I would look for a stand tree. That 116 spot looks sweet. Little island of trees in the old creek bottom ( or so it seems). Perfect spot for a big old buck to hang out. Just my opinion. Make the trek up there and see what it looks like !! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
  4. Well. I rely on the "ish" program to determine range. Moog isn't a fan of it, but it works for me. One of the nice things about having a .223 is ballistically there isn't much rise/ drop from 0-300. So, no actual range finder is used. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
  5. I have one. Used very little, but I like to use it late season when the "rut" is on and dogs are out looking. I just put it out in plain view by the call. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
  6. Dear teacher Please allow me the opportunity to prove at least one of your theory's wrong. Thanks, LOVE Treeguy Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  9. It's not hard for me to remember starting out..... Giant spotlight. White gun light. Mouth calls. Homemade attractors and unlikely weapons. I've upgraded plenty of things over the years and I'm very happy with my setup. My advice on what you NEED: A gun your very confident in, with good glass The best call you can afford or an assortment of hand calls Shooting sticks / tripod Headlamp/ spotlight for scanning Kill light on the gun. Patience. My setup is an AR in 223 / vortex hog hunter Foxpro shockwave Trigger stick tripod Wicked lights headlamp Custom made kill light Cheap lights are hit or miss. I have a 20$ eBay special that's the backup/ loaner and it's fantastic at doing the job. It also came with a quick and easy mount for any scope. My wicked headlamp is great because its easily zoomed and turned up/down. Can't beat an AR for nighttime predators IMO. 223 is a perfect all around round. Had literally every model foxpro till I sucked it up after learning "why the expensive model is better" lesson too many times. Trigger stick is great cause it's light and easily adjustable. I have upgraded so much over the years.... My setup isn't top notch, but dangit does it work ! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

  20. I have 1/9 twist, stainless bull and can put any 223 through it with great accuracy. The only reason I love the 53 is for the specs. Fps and downrange energy is the best for any Hornady round. The black is a match ammo and great for target, but I'm sure would put a wallop on some dogs. Either way, good luck out there and I hope you get to put a round ( whichever one you pick) through a dog ! Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
  21. If you hadn't read the posts of the nights events, I figured the only way you would understand is if you were there. Also, my definition of a mistake is different. That set scored us a fox! rushed shot? not really, I had my gun up and ready even though we were on THE WALK IN to the set. Had enough woods sense and time to have Moog unpack and get the gun up and ready, then I called, then we killed. You have no idea how willing I was to wait for Moog to get the shot. I've killed my share, it was his turn. Moog and I have hunted for 3 seasons, and we have pretty good communication in the field. Your post sounded to me like we screwed things up, and made mistakes, yet I feel as if this was my favorite set in 3 years and hands down one of my favorite hunts ever. Not to mention, we threw a dead critter in the truck after it. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk
