  1. Pretty short and sweet story. Hunted Sunday PM with my son and we had an amazing sit. Saw piles of deer and even had some big bucks in the field. Unfortunately none came within bow range ( although my son said I should shoot them ) Got home and happen to check my cam and saw a giant bodied deer in a different field than the one we had sat in. I immediately wanted a closer look. I loved the fact he was a loaner away from all the herd we saw. Thankfully, the wind for that stand was perfect Monday so I hit it for an afternoon sit. The rest is history. He came out textbook the way he did the night before and I had a 17yrd shot. I waited in the stand for my dad and son to show up, and my son made short work of the track job. What an experiance to have 3 generations involved in! Thankful to punch a tag so early and be able to get some stuff done before gun season. According to the PA chest girth chart this buck dressed at 180# which was verified by an actual scale. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
  2. Both have their place with me. I would choose the gun for effectiveness and increased opportunities, but there's just something to be said about the glorious sound produced when an arrow enters a deers chest and what it takes to get it there. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
  3. I know it doesn't directly answer the question, but on my ranger I usually throw the saw or saws in the bed. Along with some chains, gas and bar oil cans, axe, wedges, timber jack, cooler with drinks, ropes, etc. Then drive back through the timber and get to work. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk

  12. Caped and quartered. No great hero pics since we had to work quick. Son led the 3 generations track job, again and got us right to him. Never had to sit the buck bench from Oct 4 to gun, but I think I'll survive. So blessed to have what I have. I'll get something in the harvest thread soon. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk

  20. Thats why I went with a larger caliber like the .244..... hehehehe It's seen plenty of shoulders and always performed with cheapo Winchester ammo. Let's remember the point of the thread, which is so often overlooked. You may have knowledge beyond your years but can't remember a thread title.... IF .243 is a choice for your 12yr old, do NOT let the naysayers move you into something bigger. I know of a guy who year after year fills tags with a 243. If your concerned with shot placement, PRACTICE. Get that 12yr old behind any rifle you choose and practice proper shot placement ! A 50BMG can hit a deer and be non lethal. It CANNOT be too much of a recoil or that 12yr old is going to become gun shy. Make it fun. Get them out there. If you lose a deer to a 12ga or a 243, learn from it. Better that than to shy them away at the first trigger pull. FWIW, I know a guy in your area with a .244 that would be happy to let her take a test drive.... and your wife can hear the shots from home. Say the word. Sent from my SM-G998U using Tapatalk
