  16. Hunting big woods is a great challenge but not a great bet for filling the freezer. I like to hedge my bets by hunting big woods, small woods, ag and suburban areas. Mostly ag and small woods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Rain is turning back into snow here on Otisco Lake. Supposed to be in for another few inches by Turkey Day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I studied a qdm book called "aging deer on the hoof." It tells you how to make judgements on bucks and does based on relative body features for time of season without the need of other deer for comparison. But it's just an educated guess, then you check the lower jaw for the presence of a molar and wear. Even that is not 100% exact science. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Woke up and decided to hit the pine stand out back and wait for a middle aged buck to step under this apple tree... Unlikely but it has happened before and I saw a decent buck cruise by here Sunday morning, so fingers crossed. Really any excuse to sit in a tree, even in the rain. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I set my buck standards by age category, not rack size (not that I don't hunt for monsters, I do). I know some folks mount the lower jaw bones too to display age. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. My grandfather turned this around for me in a week, he does all of our mounts except the few shoulders. This was my public land archery buck from this November 3. I chose a piece of walnut for the plaque because I have a bunch of those trees around my house: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. If I'm on public land shoulder out to 60, neck inside 20. Private land I'll heart shot and let em run a bit. Sluggers always take em down for me, but I think I'm moving over to a savage 220 next year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. 5 antler-less, 1 mid-aged antlered. In participating in the lack of sightings threads I have never associated that with a small herd...I tend to believe the deer ecologists and wildlife biologist who say we live a state of deer overpopulation. I also have plenty of evidence of lots of thriving nocturnal deer everywhere I hunt, and my harvest numbers have never gone down in the 6 years I've been hunting ny. I actually believe that shooting the breeders is the only way to assert population control...and as this and other threads illustrate many hunters refuse to kill breeders...even after they deprive some other hunter of the tags. So I fundamentally disagree with the notion that a single hunter is depleting the forest of deer. Study qdma and you will see shooting does early and often in order to balance the herd and protecting yearling bucks results in bigger better deer in every age category. 25. taptalk settings...after you hit the reply button it's the little button box with three dots on it Switch from taptalk to attachment in photo setting . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
