  1. Quiet and gorgeous here in 7j. Nature called around 8:45 so I hit the latrine and then got my truck out of the mud. Back in the blind after resetting my hen...gonna stick it out for the duration. I brought along 6 lbs of mixed clovers and a hand broadcaster to overseed my plots at noon. 2. Good action... Nothing here so far, if I get a bearded one inside 20 I'm gonna send an arrow to the neck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. The whole thing is a myth...deer pops are ever increasing in most parts of the country/region/state.Again historically NY and PA rank at the bottom in buck age class...with a high majority being yearling harvests and statistically nearly zero percent 4-6yr old harvest. That is changing thanks to many factors like better education about whitetail ecology and protecting yearlings. Bigger and better bucks now in both states without question. 4. Got the truck a little stuck...oh well I'll get it out after hunting and things dry out a bit. Hen's set, as am I. 41 and calm in 7j. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm on my way...nice and brisk out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Heading to bed now...I'll be in my blind before sun up...looking to tag out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Trim many nearby branches to leave in as much sun as possible.Spray anything green in area with round up. In a week cultivate atleast with a rake. Broadcast fertilizer mixed with several varieties of annual and perennial clovers. Rake it or drag a chain or something to get some seed to soil contact. If you can and it needs it, water it...otherwise plant prior to rain. Overseed and spray/weed as needed...good luck. I would say the problem with planting such small plots now is if the deer use them, they will be destroyed before they ever serve a purpose. You may just want to wait until late summer, atleast you can hunt over them early before they get mowed quick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I would suggest finding a couple hardy species and do some amount of seed bed prep...it shouldn't be hard at that size, heck you could water that with a backpack sprayer. What is your goal with these...are you planting now to build soil for a late summer planting, or do you want a perennial stand from the start? I would say do what I'm doing in my logging trail...annual and perennial clovers. That is if there is at least a half day of full sun. I planted my logging trail very early so that the planting could get established using the extra available sunlight while the trees were still bare. It may be too late for that minimum-canopy strategy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. There are peas in there as well to keep up interest as long as they last. This rain is very heavy so tomorrow after hunting I'm gonna overseed all 3 plots with some mixed clovers...the 2 forage plots this will just be tilled as green manure/biomass in a couple months. 10. And here comes the water! It's raining good here now. The Diamond plot is loving this. Keeping my fingers crossed there is good soil to seed contact on the Boomerang plot and that there won't be any wash out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I hope the trees in the woods don't look like my home apples do, or my food plots might be obsolete. This one is a compsular right on the lake shore: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Stub, You are definitely wrong that there were more nice bucks in NY 15 years ago. Historically NY (and PA) has had some of the worst stats in terms of buck age class...it is improving greatly over the past few years. Also I would say there were probably about the same amount of archers back then as there were many more hunters then despite the fact there has been an increase in bow hunters in the past few years (guessing). 13. The boys and I turned over and planted forage plot 2 today...We are beat: Renamed forage plot 2...it is now called The Boomerang, as that is its shape: Broadcasted a mix of buckwheat and peas as I was in hurry to get it in before tomorrow's day of rain. Then we took a walk down The Logging Trail plot: Finally I can't wait to see the explosion of green after the rainy day on forage plot 1, aka The Diamond, it is already getting tons of action: All of my spring plantings are done except my Egyptian Wheat screens which I'll do late May - early June. No tractors required! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Checked some cams yesterday and went to the Barronett grounder 250 blind to find a fallen branch had collapsed the roof and a 3 gallon pool of water collected in the middle. After I drained the water I went in and found that the design is perfect in this blind as the roof hub posts simply came out of their sleeves upon collapse, releasing tension off of any of the other hubs and allowing for rain to pool up without breaking or tearing anything. Popped the roof poles back in their sleeves, popped the roof back up, perfect. The fabric is also rock solid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I would never stop bow hunting even if they started protecting all bucks. I like hunting and harvesting whitetails, not antlers.I'm very proud of my 8 point this year, not because of his rack...because he was a mature buck taken inside 10 yds with a bow. As for the other 7 deer I harvested in 2013...no racks at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I can't believe how fast that buckwheat grows, this pic I just received is only 24 hrs of growth after the deer pic above: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. The buckwheat on forage plot 1 is already up all over and a group of 4 deer came in to enjoy it last evening (only 3 of them are in this pic): The logging trail plot mix of fescue, rye and clover are also really coming up nice and I already observed it getting some deer & turkey use: This is what the logging trail would look like if I hadn't planted it: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Just planted a food plot last week...keep it comin. Most of our rain has been coming at night anyhow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. It wasn't you that beefed with her that day, and it was some personal attack stuff, I don't know that was it but it was her last day.I'll stand by my statement, lots of traffic on this site leading up to season openers, lots of big talk and opinions and then 2 weeks into the season, ghost town. Harvest threads and live from the stand reports show you who is out hunting...post counts just tell you who's doing the most talking. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Where in any of this is that clear. He said he is hunting hunters and will have someone with a good rest covering his 6 from sniper range. That was all after adapting much less eloquently the "full metal jacket" quote about shooting women and children "easy, just don't lead em so much." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I'm not saying you are only hunting for bone...I saw that nice ml harvest you had and have read your stories involving family.I do think that if you are not thinking herd management then you are not thinking about the future of hunting...antler management on the other hand will have little impact on the future ability to hunt in ever more developed/populated areas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Not just to fill the freezer...to manage the herd so the farmers don't do it for me in the offseason. So I still take issue with bone boners, if that's all they care about. Mature deer, awesome, big buck and horns...even better... Only reason to be in the woods? Not even close. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. You keep missing the point...I said you unknowingly did it, I'm not attacking you, I'm basically saying your a victim, but of your own making.I'm attacking this notion that a person being on NAW, or any other industry production or publication, or having chatted with you and knowing his stuff means crap, and illustrates that when they aren't shooting them on farms they aren't shooting them at all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. The entire crux is in #3...you posted this up on a separate forum and confirmed its legitimacy with two sources. As for #2, the industry jerks have an income motive...b&c=$$$. Another question, once inside a high fence, what besides the fence in a picture would indicate that you were or weren't inside the fence. A picture sent to you by some other internet dude. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Check the last day she posted...she got ripped apart by several members concerning her style of posting.http://huntingny.com/forums/index.php?/topic/21474-snipers-shot-up-a-Silicon-Valley-substation-for-19-minutes/page__view__findpost__p__286266 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
