i never hunted there opening day, only have done some drives a few afternoons towards the end of rifle season. I would definitely check out the spots along orange turnpike though - its out of the way from the rest of the park, so I would think you could find a decent spot there. It's not like stuart where only 1 person can park per spot. You just park along the road there. During rifle there are always a few trucks, but nothing out of control (at least not along on orange turnpike). If you get there by 430 I think you should be good. There are a few hotels in the area you could stay at if you didnt want to sleep in the truck. I know the area well, so let me know if you have any other questions.

Seems activity has picked up a bit this past week or so - probably due to cooler weather here down in the southern part of the state.

check out the access points from orange turnpike. Are you asking about bow season or rifle season? Doesnt seem to get as much pressure as other areas, especially during bow. I saw a real nice buck on that road this past weekend. I would definitely do some scouting along there.

I think there is a blurb about this in the regulations book. If I recall correctly, it may only deal with trespassers - not hunters who have been granted permission to hunt.

Found out who is stealing my corn stalks.... Caught em!

great pictures. That guy in the second picture is a monster! -
do you just make the plaques, or do you also do the skull cleaning treatment etc?
-
it doesn't matter. Like I said, I will probably take him if I get the opportunity. Just fun and interesting to try and guess how old.
-
wow that is a bruiser. I am not a scorer - but I would definitely drop him if he walked past my stand!
-
that is what I think as well. Notice he is out a 1:30 in the morning. I caught him again today at 2:30am. If he makes it to 3.5 he will be a bruiser. Problem is that there is a ton of hunting pressure where I hunt.

Let me know what you guys think - is this guy a 2.5yr old or 3.5yr old? This one is getting the arrow regardless, but just curious as to everyone's opinion. Kind of a bizzarre rack, but really the first decent buck I have picked up on my cam so far.

Looking For Deer Processing in Southern New York
joe12 replied to WestchesterBowman's topic in Deer Processing
There are a bunch of places in Orange County. Desertos Deer Cutting would be my recommendation. You would have to take the thruway north to 17 (prob an hour and 15 minute ride) from rockland. -
What to do with the carcass?
joe12 replied to Stretcher Guy's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
it will get gobbled up in no time!!! -
Wasn't us Warren . We usually hike a mile or 2 in before we start our drives to get away from all the guys that hunt a few hundred yards from the road. Also, we usually sit for the morning on private land, then don't meet up for drives until mid-day at the earliest.

If you are willing to hike a ways away from the road there are some good spots. Also, there are some decent spots along orange turnpike that you can access and does not get as crowded. I would only recommend going there during bow season. Rifle season is a complete zoo, with no shortage of people with no etiquitte or safety standards. I hate this kind of situation so I avoid during rifle. THe only time I have gone during rifle is when we do some deer drives late in the season.

where in Wyoming are you going to be hunting? It is beautiful out there.

I was trimming some hedges a few weeks ago and somehow didn't see a basketball sized hornets nest. Got nailed 12 times (4 in the head). Had to go to hospital and get hooked up to an IV.

Would that be considered hunting over a bait pile or hunting with the use of scents??? LOL

great pics!

Let it rip! Although last season the long walk to the tree stand and breakfast got the best of me, so I had to use a nearby tree as a toilet. I was in the middle of a 100+ acre parcel and half way though my "conference call" a guy and his son come walking right up on me. Unreal
-
WOW!!! Those are some serious rakes.
-
i would take him

One product that works pretty good for poison ivy/oak/sumac is Zanfel. They sell it at drug stores and walmart. It is a cream that you scrub on the affected area. Stops the itch almost immediatly and the rash begins to heal fairly quickly. Its about $30 for a small tube, but well worth it. Only think that I have found to work.

I was surprised by Paul Ryan's speech

Early must have a lot of free time on her hands now that the Occupy Wall Street Movement fizzled out. I thought this was a hunting forum - not an athiest forum to attack others' religions. I'm actually surprised that you like hunting - you sound like a real earthy-crunchy tree-hugging liberal that would follow a hunter into the woods to prevent them from hunting. It must really pain you to own a firearm. -
got one 3M and actually got a 4R to my surprise. My dad got a 3M and got turned down for 4R. My brother 2 for 3M.

Sterling Forest in 3P is not too far (less than an hour ride) from NYC. Wouldn't be a bad place for bow. It turns into a complete zoo during rifle season though. To hunt there you need to get a special Sterling Forect permit from the park office.
