  1. No antler I don't think any of them are that important, but they think they are. As well as the kool-Ade drinkers that hang on their every word. Keep listening to what comes spewing out of there mouths and the more clearer of a picture comes into view of what they really represent. Started this to get a little awareness as to how non chalant a lot of people on this site are about wounding deer. I don't care about trophies or how many deer I can shoot in a season, as sg0331 is. I care about there being any deer left to hunt in 10-15 years. But. Keep it up guys and girls knock them dead or just wound them and "try" to track them down. I know I can look at myself in the mirror. Thats the last you will hear from me.

  2. Doc I have a question, why do u have a 12 ga deer slayer? In your post you say "we" when referring to bow hunters and "them" when speaking of gun hunters. I thought as a moderator u represent all hunters. Do you have side job as a lobbyist because you sure are good at talking out of both sides of your mouth.

  3. 1 not an anti.....far from it, 2- the response to my post have been interesting to read and for the most part well thought out until the last few, 3- myke123 if your profile is correct and u r a women your daddy must be proud of the way his little princess speaks

  4. Perfection...no...no one is perfect.....frustration more like it....u have to admit there is a lot of stories of lost deer on this site and this is only one ste of prob thousands across the country. What bothers me is that it doesnt seem to bother anyone else..response is better luck next time or don't worry there is plenty of season left. I was taught don't shoot if you don't think you can put it down. There are a lot of bad decisions being being made. The people that post their stories readily admit it in their blogs. "should have waited another 10 yds, should have checked the pins again before going out, and on and on"

  5. I have been on this site for approx one week and I have lost count as to how many deer have been lost after being shot. I now know why the dec is extending the bow season next year. Let u people cull the herd while the dec reaps in the money from our licenses. This has got to be the first time in the history of any local gov't that they can actually make a profit without lifting a finger or breaking a sweat. Unbelieveable...a lot you should be ashamed of yourselves. Thank God for the AR. Maybe there will be something left for gun season for the rest of us. Can't wait to see the responses to this one....and no I have never lost a deer after shooting it...that I can honestly say.

  6. The fact remains that this thread was started by someone who killed their first deer with a bow, and it was a clean kill. Didn't wound the deer, didn't have to wait hrs to recover it, didn't have to wait for it to expire, something to be proud of. I think he did a great job, actually better than most from what I have been reading on this site...then again that's the opinion of a gun hunter......lol. Congrats again Karp, enjoy the meat.

  7. According to letter I rcvd with second tag, if dec did not have enough hunters apply for doe tags they mailed one out to whoever was denied one. If there were still leftovers they mailed out seconds to those of us that purchase it with lic. I know that where I hunt ,3j, had high prob of getting one if u applied but was surprised to get second one as well.

  8. Dave you also have to take into account that if the land owners are older people, the taxes they are paying may be lower than what you would pay if they have certain exemptions i.e. if they are veterans. when the land is sold those exemptions come off and the current tax rates kick in. that is why i believe the price for land has not gone down. they have no reason to sell if they are paying only a minimal amt in taxes, therefore they can wait for their price to be met.

  9. Guys I hear you , you would think in this time of close to double dip recession land would be a lot cheaper, but the fact is it's not. These people are asking top price for their land and I don't know why. Where are the bargains ? Maybe they are waiting for the Hydro fracking for Natural gas , leases to roll in and the roaltys from the gas companies. But nothing is cheap. I always thought that during the depression land went for cents on a dollar . And this administration said we were very close to a total financial collapse . It just doesn't make sense, economy down , people need money and they raise the price of their land. Maybe these people upstate aren't hurting as much as they might want you to think. If they were there would be a lot of land for sale at the right price. Just my opinion.

  10. Hey Biz,

Just was browsing this post...A BIG THANK YOU....never saw this info before. Will come in very handy for next season...Have only been on this forum for two days and am very impressed at how much info everyone is willing to share. Hopefully will be able to return the favor in the future. Good luck on the rest of the season hope u get a bruiser....

  11. or you can just hunt NYS Land, DEC watershed properties, etc. There are so many places to hunt that some people have no idea about. I have been on watershed property hunting many times and never see a trace of another hunter on a piece of land 100-400 acres.

I hunt on private property (8 acres) and can get a buck every year. I also hunt watershed properties where I see bucks every year and no hunters.

Heres a whole list of properties! http://www.nyc.gov/h...tion_maps.shtml

Many of these receive little to no pressure from hunters.

  12. Thanks for the info...like I said in a previous post we had two brothers up near Wyndham who used to butcher for us but age and arthritis has put an end to their business. Fins and Feathers is right in my home town. I have never used them but my brother has had a couple of ducks mounted there and they did a nice job. Always brought kill home already cut up so to avoid the inevitable stares from the animal right wackos going thru the city. Hopefully we have to make that decision this season if we kill some deer.

  13. Yeah I know but we don't have the time or facility to do it ourselves this season. When we hunt up in Greene we had an older gentleman and his brother who we went to who did a great job for $40 per deer. Always got back most of the meat and they gave you whatever cuts u wanted.

  14. Hi HB,

New to this forum and my first post.....I hunt in upper 3j, Kerhonkson, saw alot of sign back in sept and oct. I am a gun hunter only ....any opinion on the area i hunt. This is only my second season there. saw a 4 ptr last season but could not shoot due to AR. Many doe thru property so far and just rcvd second doe tag last weeekend. Property is between Berme rd and the golf course on Granite rd. Any info would be appreciated. If we get anything this year will bring deer to toms taxidermy to butcher.. any feedback on them? Thanks
