On another note...i feel stupid asking this but it is my first time attempting to hunt bear, what should i be looking for to position myself in a good/safe place?

Anyone seeing black bears in their area? im in a-bay (6g) i only have access to public land and have been fortunate enough to fill my buck tag with a great deer , but now im on the move to fill the bear tag and this will be my first season going after one....so any info you would like to pass on would be great.

Fort Drum has a large number of bear, just have to get a permit. They are free and there is over 100k acres of hunting land.

I did not know you could hunt the training area....just checked out their web site all about it( link on dec web page) just need to register.

This will be a first for me as i never have purchased a bear tag.

google ny state lands. dec website has a mapping tool.

I have checked it out and used this tool, deff very helpful

Would anyone know of a wma within like 50mi of watertown, hoping to locate a decent bear to fill my tag?

thank you, so far it seems to be a very friendly useful and informative site for me now if i can only figure away to fill my bear tag this season...., and the comments mean allot to me after how much time effort blood sweat and money ive put in.... to have it pay off like this, deff did not expect a deer like this for my return season.

its not a bad phone just wish it was larger pics.....but thanx on the buck he is my first in almost 8 yrs and "the machine" has been a work in progress for quite sometime, glad it paid of with a great shot!

Hey guys here's a 10 ptr i pulled out of French Creek WMA on 11/11/11, he weighed 197 dressed.

Included a couple photos od him and the .270wsm i took him with at 180yrds.
