Here is where our taxes go for Education
wooffer replied to Dave's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Nice defense mechanism, but you are wrong. I am not against anyone doing well. But when it is at the expense of my earnings and my childrens future financial security, then yes I am against it. Did you ever see the facts stated on the attached flyer. Learn the truth and then maybe you'll sing a different tune. A teacher retiring today will cost the taxpayer over $2,000,000.- for the next 30 years of their retirement. WHERE DO YOU THINK THAT MONEY COMES FROM??? It comes from us, my checkbook and money that would have been saved for my childs future. I have alot of respect for the teachers that taught me. Sadly teachers today are not those people. They are blood suckers who are attracted to hi pay. Teaching paid carp before and as a result attracted people who knew but wanted to work with our kids. We saw how they reacted in Wisconsin when they tried to reign in spending. Those are teachers, they are thugs with chalk. PLEASE SAVE OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR CHILDRENS FUTURE BY VOTING….pdf -

I live on LI and haved never seen any stats showing the schools to be worthy of what they charge. Can you post or pm me the link? I have seen bs stats, like number of kids going to college, etc. Anyone can go to college now, to study anything. Don't get me wrong, I don't put all the blame on the educators. In fact the school teachers on LI oppose standarized testing. Standarized testing is the only way to get a base line for all schools to be compared to. The facts are that kids today DO NOT compare to students that came before them. The Regents and SAT's are now graded on a curve. That was not done when we went to school. -
I just took advantage of that. Just to the bargain cave section and add a $5.00 hat or cheap gloves. You can always use an extra hat and then you get the free shipping.

It's a small club because there are relatively few cops on LI compared to the city. Be safe. -

Are you teaching in public or private schools. It seams most of the public school districts on long island pay quite well. I am referring to public schools. Have you ever seen this website? http://seethroughny.net/payrolls/ You can see all salaries by school district. Anywhere in the state. -

Please re-read my post: "The cops on long island are a seperate but equal argument." I was NOT talking about city cops. -

Good for you guys, I don't fault you. But the system is not working. You just got me thinking, I thought Imay know you guys. I have a couple of friends who are on the job and hunt, but none have teachers for spouses. -

You and your wife wouldn't happen to be a member of the long island lotto would you? You know when one person is a cop and the other is a teacher. -

I agree with you Elite, it is because of their lack of understanding that we are all in this mess. I just don't like paying for others peoples mistakes. -

My friends wife teaches high school in Suffolk county, makes $109,000. a year plus $10,000 extra for coaching the soccer team. She works 180 days a year compared to 240 days for the average worker. It will cost the NY taxpayer over 2 million dollars in benefits (cash & healthcare) when she retires if she collects for another 30 years. she is only 31 now. -

You missed my pouint, you do not a masters to teach. The union had the state mandate it as an excuse to pay teachers more money. The reality is none of the teachers who taught us growing up had a masters degree. Here on long island you can get to a $100,000 + annual in as little as 7 years. More money doesn't make a good. It just attracts the wrong kind of teacher. The cops on long island are a seperate but equal argument. They are also over paid. Don't give me they risk their lives for us crap. I can find 5 people for everyone of them who will risk their lives for less. Plus they don't really risk their lives for us anyway. You have a better chance dying as a construction worker than a cop. -

I hear in Suffolk county they have a seperate library tax, in addition to town, village and school tax. It never ends. -

No one can afford to work in the private sector. I worked for an international company years ago. we laid off 10% of the staff and those who didn't lose their jobs got a 10% pay cut. Sadly the company closed 3 years later and all jobs were lost. My salary has never come up that 10% again and probably neve will. They say in Greece more people work for the government than the private sector. The private sector can no longer afford to fund their pension system, hence the riots. You can use this website to see what any NYS worker makes. http://seethroughny.net/payrolls/ The top 4 people in my school district make more than the governor of NY. -

True, but the pension system set up in the 1920's was done so based on very low municipal saleries and was a way of compensating those workers. Sadly all municipal saleries have skyrocketed, but the pension system has not been adjusted to deal with it. The pension system is not totally funded anymore, just like our social security system. We all lose in the end. -

I agree with you regarding the waste as far as the other spending goes, but the bulk of the budget is salaries and pensions. The school districts spend money like it is free, because for them it is free. Put out a budget and people will approve it, and if they don't they will have a re-vote. Our school district uses the kids to scare the parents. We are now being threatened with no kindergarten if the budget doesn't pass. They could say no new uniforms but that doesn't scare the parents as much. -

Sports do cost money, but the real money is going to salaries and pensions. The NYS state is bascially broke, but it just keeps promising more and more. Average pay for a teacher retiring from the school school district I live in is over $110,000. a year. That is a pension cost to the taxpayer of $55,000./year + lifetime health benefits when they retire. Based on a 30 year payout after retirement a teacher will make an additional $2,010,000.- for NOT working. (Pension 30 years @ $50,000) + (Health Insurance 30 years @ $12,000.) -

Your replies are typical union responses. State mandates costs pennies compared to what it takes to educate these kids. You don't need a masters to teach, you never did. Take a look at the attached pdf it addresses the answers better. Did you ever see what your local teachers make? Here on long island it is insane. See them at www.seethroughny.net PLEASE SAVE OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR CHILDRENS FUTURE BY VOTING….pdf -

Our school district here on Long Island collects over $33,000. per student. The nearby private school charges only $8,400. a year. The difference in cost goes to the teachers salaries and pensions in the public school system. The NYS pension system is collapsing under the weight. You can expect our country to look like Greece in the future when the pensioners are told their money is not all there. -

Update on fatal shooting Of Sheridan NY Fire Chief
wooffer replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Agreed, the reality is that these people need to stop shooting at "movement" and should be charged with manslaughter when they kill someone due their neglect. I remember one gun season I could hear movement but couldn't make out what it was. I took a look through my binoculars and the sound stopped, but as I scanned the area I could see an antler through the branches. I stayed on the antler with my binoculars and they started moving and then rattling. Finally I got a better view of the knucklehead in cammo carrying antlers on his back. No blaze orange anywhere but antlers dangling from his back. Point of the story, always know your target. I never shoot at fur, and always know my target is a live animal when I pull the trigger. -
Lower the legal shooting distance for bow????
wooffer replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Bow Hunting
The DEC is thinking about it, page 54 says DEC recommends that the setback distance for discharge of bowhunting equipment (longbows and crossbows) be reduced from 500 feet to 150 feet. They are also proposing deer hunting in Nassau county. deerplan2012.pdf -
Typically you are right, but this seemed to have happed very fast. An armed college student shot a psycho years back who was shooting up the place, I think in VA.

That sounds like a reasonable statement on the face of it, but the sad truth is that the wrong people use a statement like that to effect my rights even though I never did anything wrong. That same statement can be applied to children also. It would read like this: " there is no way to guarantee that a child gun will stay in the hands of a responsible and trained adult once it leaves the womb store(as this case proves), I believe that there needs to be more control of them children." Wouldn't that make more sense? When I was raised Mom stayed home and knew what was going on with us. She even snooped on us and once confiscated my favorite pocket knife hidden in my room. I think parents need to get back to parenting. I would be curious to learn more about his upbringing or lack thereof. I don't think the firearm should be blamed. He could have done alot more damage with a gallon of gas in the right place. The greatest mass murder in NYC before 9/11 was close to a hundred people and the killer used a gallon of gas. Funny how no one called for banning gas to drunks with no car.
