  1. You hit the nail right on the head. It's funny how they describe the DEC as sharpshooters. Makes me feel so much better that I am paying the government to do the citizens job. If there are too many deer then adjust the rules for hunting them in that area to increase the hunters take. Whitetail are now extending their territory as far west as Mill Neck (Nassau County), but nothing is being talked about to counter the supposed "whitetail" menace. Why not? If they are such a scourge, shouldn't they be eradicated now before we need to pay more of may taxes to do a job that is ours.
  2. Your failure to respond his statement only confirms his argument. Your inane comment about drugs only proves you don't have a valid response.
  3. Read it twice, what curse word did he use?
  4. How does that work? There is only one bow tag on my license. How do I transport the 2nd deer without a tag?
  5. Just curious as I am not familiar with bow hunting rules and asking to accuse of any wrongdoing. Are you allowed to take 2 deer with bow?
  6. Of course you don't see any rights being taken away, because you don't understand that "freedom of speech" is a right. You feel it is a privilege that only you and your ilk should enjoy.
  7. It's about free speech, for both sides. Gay or anti-gay. Just remember freedom of speech was intended to protect offensive speech, not polite conversations. A&E viewers should decide if he leaves by changing the channel. Not a group trying to stifle freedom of speech.
  8. Try these guys. I think they rent long guns and give basic instruction. The place is kind of rundown but at least you can shoot with some instruction http://www.lisc.net/p332.htm There is a nice public outdoor range near the Long Island Shooting Center one you are confident with whatever you purchase. Then check out the Nassau county shooting range in Uniondale (by Hofstra). They don't rent firearms but they give firearms classes there once you buy a firearm. Nassau county's range is open to non-county residents and it is a nice range. Any firearm training you can get always helps, especially in the use of whatever you buy. I am a fan of bolt action rifles, very simple... bolt is open rife is safe. But most important rule to burn into your brain. Treat every firearm as "IF IT IS LOADED". Even after you unload it and check it, "TREAT IT AS IT IS LOADED". Always pointed in a safe direction.
  9. Seems you guys are a big, big threat NYPD cracks down on long guns that hold more than five rounds http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/05/nypd-targets-owners-multi-clip-shotguns-rifles/?intcmp=obinsite
  10. He committed manslaughter and should be charged with that if nothing else. Hold people accountable for their actions. It's that simple. Word will get out that "saying "woops" when you shoot another man to death is not going to keep you out of jail.
  11. I would not be surprised to eventually find out this was not an accident. Most people are intentionally murdered by people they know.
  12. He should be charged with manslaughter. Plain and simple.
  13. I would contact the Venison Coalition and ask them too. I am sure this is a common question they must answer.
  14. Okay sounds like I'll need an early start. I have been scouting a couple (public) property's in Putnam in case I go that route. I usually use a light to find my spot and make sure I alert any hunters nearing me to my location. I don't want any accidents either.
  15. I may hunt state land in Putnam this year. I am told, get there early. What is the definition of early? 30 minutes before sunrise, 60 minutes before sunrise?
  16. He was from CT no less, he had the NYC DEP parking sticker displayed in his window, but that was all I saw.
  17. I walked NYC DEP and NYS land today in Putnam and found it especially quiet. The only thing I ran across was a hunter from CT. Said he was turkey hunting, but didn't have a bag tag on from what I could see when he walked away.
  18. How much before sunrise can you park and walk into the state parks?
  19. Do you need a state parking permit to park in the state parking lots during hunting season?
  20. Yeh, I did check them (DEC land) out. Question about DEC land though. Where do you park? Do they unlock the gates and you can park on the property, or do you park outside the gate along the road?
  21. Thanks guys, looks like Storm King is out.
  22. Yeh, I could imagine the close proximity to the city would attract a lot of hunters.
