I saw a spike and 5 point chasing a doe today at 10.30

I have lost a few releases over the years in the woods. It's the first thing I put on after getting out of my car and the last thing I take off after getting back to my car. If you have your arrows in the quiver than your bow is not loaded just like if you have your ammo from your gun in your pocket your gun is not loaded!! Plain and simple!!! You need no lock on your string if that were so than you would need a trigger lock on your gun!!! BS on that one Bubba!!!

A lot of bow hunter like me won't even go out until the end of the month or at least until the chase faze when the hunting gets GOOD!!!

The best I ever owned where called Bone Dry by Redhead 1000gr insulate. Lasted over 6 years and where the warmest boot even when ice fishing!!

I heard a shot a 6:07 am this morning!! I'm sure it was just a GREAT MENTOR who was showing the kid to shot them early before dawn because it's your best chance to kill a deer!!

The reason I started this thread is all the BS about AR's by people who aren't living it. Many of us have been for a few years and are seeing the results, or lack of results first hand!! I say there isn't much of a difference in the size of the buck sence it started in 3K. I've been hunting for 40 plus years and have taken a number of deer mostly 1.5 year old with racks that ranged from spikes to basket raked 8 pointers. from what I see now is a bunch of basket racked 2.5 year olds. 15 years ago I shot a 13 pointer with a busted rack that had a 11 inch speard weighed 110 lbs. and was aged at 6.5 years old. The only thing that made him look old was his grey muzzel. Not many deer made it past 2 years old then and not many deer will make it pass 2 year know with the AR's in place. And as I said a 2.5 old is hardly a mature deer. Let's here from the people who are living in the AR zones who are living it and the rest of you experts stay out of the thread and just read what THEY have to say you may learn something first hand!!

Yes you can call in fall flock without flushing them. I hunted them for years before I got a dog all I would do is call using lost hen yelps with a high pitched longbox that could also kee kee.

I understand that but what's the difference if those 1.5 year old bucks get killed the next year. In most guy's thinking and from what they show and preach on TV 2.5 year old buck are hardly mature!!

Living and hunting in 3k an AR zone going in the 4th year I've not seen a big improvement in the size or the #'s of big rack big's that everybody thought there would be!! What's everybody else observation? Do you think AR's are working? My thought is that the DEC say's the buck kill has gone up, of course it has!! The first year they took the 1.5 year old deer out of the huntable deer so the buck kill went down. Now the kill #'s are up because the 1.5 are now 2.5's so of course the kill went up but where are all the BIG BUCK's that people wanted. I say they're not there because your just killing 2.5 year old deer whats the difference!!

As far as anti's using ultralights to harass people that about the dumbest thing I ever heard them doing. Harassing someone with a loaded gun yup "HERE"S YOUR SIGN"!!! LOL

I had a women who used to harass me when I chuck hunted. She would come out and walk the fields banging pots and pans and call the cop's on me a # of times. One day a trooper came out in the field to talk to me but he to was a chuck hunter and loved my 22-250 set up!! After about a hour of shooting the BS he walked up to the ladies house and gave her a ticket for harassment. I can still hear the BITCH screeming at that cop!! LOL She never bothered me again!!

I say screw the little sissies let them learn the way I did. I killed my first deer on the farm at 13 years old during a blazing snow storm!! My old man gave me a single shot 12 Ga.and one slug sat me next to a big oak and told me not to move until he got back!! 4 hours later a 6 point walked out I shot him and forgot all about how freakin cold I was!! That was 45 years ago and I'm still freazing my azz off and loving every minute of it!! I think these kids are babied way to much!!

Any body know if you can run dogs on bear in NY? I'm not talking hunting bear with dogs in NY I'm just talking running bears or training dogs to run bear to the tree.

I forgot my pee bottle one time years ago so I just let it go out the back of my ladder stand. A few minutes later a nice 8 walked up form behind and sniffed the spot. I killed that buck and have been wizzing away out of the tree sence!!

That early in the season deer movment won't be an issue unless your hunting a food sourse.

There is some state land around Pine Bush, Walker Valley erea that used to be great hunting but I havn't hunted there in a few years.

The deer hunting is poor very low population. There are plenty of bears and the turkey hunting is good but you have to fight the croweds. Small game is not worth the effort.

The Mongaup has VERY LOW deer numbers. I know that there's some state land round Pine Bush and Walker Valley that I've heard is good for deer.
