Crappyice, true words! I think the shot would qualify as bad in the strictest sense, but you tell me. I'm hunting 35 acres of private land, and I'm the only hunter with permission on the land. No one could be moving on the other side of the hill ( unless they were ranger/sniper trained, without me hearing them, and without them pushing the deer hard towards me. If I shot high, it could have gone over the deer and into the thick woods between hill and water( maybe a thousand ft to the water) As a newbie, I welcome support and feedback (including critical opinions), I'm just looking to learn here. Got my first deer (ever!) last night! Got to say, I got a lot of insight from this group, tips, tricks, and hang in there support. Thanks to everyone I met a local man from this list, and he became a mentor to me (came out last night to help me track, field dress, and process, my doe). Thanks to all for being willing to support new hunters as we try to find our way

That makes total sense to me! When shooting from the stand I draw like I'm shooting on the level, then bend at the waist (back straight) until I have a pin on the target. Never thought to do the reverse for uphill! Thanks

Well, operator error is totally possible But shooting a target I am consistent, and when I shot target from down hill, I ruined two arrows shooting them into a wooden sand box about 2ft below my target. I can heart/lung that shot all day on level ground/and from my stand at the same yardage! So, physics being constant (sort of anyway), maybe my eye is somehow fooling me? I missed the same doe twice a couple Of days ago. She came in at under 20 yards, over the hill on my right. She really surprised me, because I didn't expect anything from that direction! She is about 6-8 ft above me and 15 yards out. I lined up the shot (thinking "this is it, my first deer!), and stuck it in a tree right underneath and behind. She jumped and while I'm glassing the arrow to see if I hit her (clean arrow), she comes back over the hill! Gives me a perfect broadside shot. This time I aim for a high lung shot, and I think I hit her. I find blood, but no arrow, then the blood trail ends! The rest is another story, but.. In any case, shooting up hill meant I had to adjust my shot high, not low, so this thread has me a little confused!

It was explained to me that with fixed broad heads the longer vanes are better. Use the shorter if your shooting mechanicals. Just what I was told.

I saw 2 small doe scoot past me around 5:30 pm. They came through so quick I couldn't get set. I thought more would follow, but none came. Turns out my wife, kids, and dog where on the lake taking pictures, and must have pushed them toward me. Now I can't go out again till next week. Learning the patience part of hunting is some hard S¥%# man!

This is my second season bow hunting/any hunting (no luck in my first!). I learned a great deal last year, and I think I'm on them this year (unless on Monday they change everything lol). I will take any good shot I get , on the first doe or buck I see! Then I'll learn to field dress and butcher (maybe grind and sausage making). I can wait for "The Buck", and as a newbie, I'm not in a hurry to pass for the big one! Maybe this is my year

When I use foam blocks like that, I Greg a tuff to clean residue on my arrow shaft! I worry that may effect flight. But I also like free!
