  1. I am not JetMec and Jetmec is not me. Didnt say I dont know him though. We are definitely on the same page. I shot a few spikes in my day also, but havent since 1999. I own a small piece of property that is abundant with deer. Its a much different style of hunting I guess because I see young bucks almost everytime im in the woods. Sounds to me like most of you are hunting much tougher pieces of property. I dont really care what you shoot, but I wish my area would implement the AR program because we have way too many fill the tag hunters who kill all the young bucks I pass up. Maybe I should start killing them all with my bow, so come opening day of gun there is nothing but doe and button bucks left. What do you think JetMec?
  2. Doesnt matter, you are all fill the tag hunters and I am a horn hunter. We will never see eye to eye. Lets leave it at that. Every person I hunt with agrees with me, so we will continue to pass the young bucks. Vet-My shooting of does has absolutely nothing to do with age class. It was to prove that not all Pro-AR people are against shooting does, which was mentioned in a previous post. Around in circles we go... Im done with this nonsense. You all have your minds made up. If you ever come fish down on Long Island, let me know how you like throwing back almost every fish that you catch because of the regulations.
  3. Wonder if that guy shoots spikes and little four pointers?
  4. It really doesnt matter. We can go around in circles all day long. You have your opinion and I have mine and we most certainly do not see eye to eye. My Education is what I have learned in the woods and I think I am 100% correct, just as you think you are 100% correct. I will keep passing on the young bucks and you will keep shooting them because that is the best you can do.
  5. I shoot as many does as I can and am legally allowed to and I am very Pro-AR. I just really want the 1.5 YO bucks to be safe for one year. Isnt one of the best parts of hunting the challenge of it? Anyone can outsmart a 1.5 YO buck.
  6. I dont understand why there is so much friction with this subject. You will all stand to gain in the long run and you dont seem to realize it. There are plenty of bucks that have 3 points on one side and would be legal to kill. I know, you disagree and im ignorant right? I think it is you who is the ignorant one. Im not going to have a "Peter Measuring Contest with you", but I will say that I have been hunting for a long time and have learned many things. I saw first hand how QDM works and was amazed at the results. You will still be able to fill your freezer, the buck will just be bigger than what you normally take. Do you think that spike or four pointer you pass up will vanish into the air only to never be seen again? He will be around the following year with more meat on him to put in your freezer. Its really very simple, but your not thinking big picture. Its not just about you, its about the whole entire state. Why cant NY be on the same level as the west or even PA? The guys I know in PA, absolutely love the AR program and consistently take nice bucks every year. There are also plenty of little 5 and 6 pointers roaming around there also and you would be well within your rights to shoot them.
  7. So why did you Lock my thread? I guess its only your opinions that matter. Just argue one point I have and tell me im wrong.. I promise if you come up with a Valid arguement I will stop posting on this site. If you pass up a young buck and he lives to see another year, does that not improve the Quanity of deer and also help in the balance of the deer herd as far as Buck to Doe Ratio, which would also improve the quality of your hunt because you will see more deer. Prove me wrong, I beg you too. Not one of you have so far. Enough with the Illinois does not have AR in place either. Im talking about the outfitters that manage their land and the AR they impose. The results are absolutely outstanding.
  8. Yeah man, me too. Love Hunting Season. I take off as much time as I can. Good Luck!!
  9. So I really got things going with a few posts and I was very entertained by some peoples responses. You are all entitled to your opinion and I respect it. Shoot em up and empty out as many bucks as you can from the woods for all I care. Im hoping for a 30-1 doe to buck ratio respectively. That is perfect for the health of the deer herd. Im going to start keeping all the fish I catch from all my favorite spots too, so that when I return there are only little babies or nothing at all left. If I only kept what I needed and relase most that would make things so much better, but why would I want to do that? I mean, its really just about me right? I just want to kill whatever I can when I can, so theres not much left for others to enjoy. I really dont understand how a logical person doesnt see the benefit to letting a deer walk to grow to maturity? Wouldnt that create a MORE ABUNDANT POPULATION? That would improve your hunting experience also right? Screw that though, Brown its Down right? Were big manly deer hunters and nobody is gonna tell us what we can or cant shoot. No doe tags in your area this year? Hmmmm, sounds to me like someone is telling you what you can and cant shoot..
  10. If my neighbors couldnt shoot the little guys, then progress would begin. Do you agree?
  11. Hey Russel, if u need help with the hemroids on your ass I will gladly shoot them off with my bow if you would like
  12. Listen, in a nutshell. If you stop killing young bucks, they will grow to be bigger bucks which will also Increase the Population of deer regardless of where you hunt. Then you will have an easier time filling your tag because there will be MORE bucks to choose from, so how do you not stand to benefit from this? Please Explain? Do you dare argue with that point and tell me that passing up a buck will not improve your OVERALL hunting experience in the future? Suck it up for a year or two and then tell me if you still dont like it.
  13. Last year, me and my buddy took 3 doe off my property and are going to do the same again this year. I do my own QDM and am hoping it pays off. Believe me when I tell you that I have seen some decent bucks, but nothing near 120 class or better that I would like. I do see plenty of 2.5 year olds, but most are scrappy basket bucks with very few being respectable. Im the guy who wants to catch the 1,000lb Marlin instead of the stringer full of tiny trout. Not that I dont enjoy catching fish, but I want the trophy. Thats the one that offers the challenge and the one I want to outsmart. To me that is the most rewarding.
  14. I do shoot does ERussel. Many does, just not a mother or babies. Not the way I operate
  15. Im sure, I have seen spikes mount does also and it sucks. Balance out the herd and that spike will be jerking off alot.. My buddy shot a 180lb 3 pointer out of my stand and I have to say it was one pathetic looking set of horns on a big deer. Wonder why that is?
  16. I have taken many nice bucks with my bow and Gun. Just dont really have the quality that I wish we did. I did not say "Spikes dont Breed does here in NY" but I bet that they dont breed does in Illinois or PA because there is a much much better balance between bucks and does. Much closer buck to doe ratio which creates competition for breeding rights, which means survival of the fit. You are entitled to shoot whatever you want, but I CANT understand how you dont see the benefit of having the AR??? It will most certainly improve the herd and amount of deer that you see.You might not be able to shoot a buck the first year, but after that it will only get better. Argue that point if you can. I cant help that your not hunting in a good area. Perhaps try another place. My land is loaded with deer (mostly does and 1.5 yo bucks). The Genetics are HORRIBLE and I want that to change. I want to get my moneys worth just as you do. I pay the same price for my license and spend alot of time in the woods. I havent shot a young buck in almost 15 years and have seen some good results, but I think it would be better with the Restriction. My neighbors are the trigger happy gun hunters I was refering to. Imagine seeing just as many bucks in the woods as you do does? Do you think you would like that? Or would you rather see 8 does, 2 spikes and a nothing else? I can kill little spikes and four pointers all day long but I see no challenge in that at all. I want the deer that gets my heart pumping and adrenaline flowing. Shoot a nice 8-10 pointer with a bow and you will totally agree with me. Feel free to bash me some more. I enjoy it and totally disagree with anyone who is against letting the young and very easy to kill bucks walk. I also NEVER shoot a mother or babies, so maybe there is something wrong with that as well. Perhaps there is more to hunting than murdering the first deer you see.
  17. Wanted to throw one more thing in to the mix here. The AR will improve hunting anywhere it is implemented and if you think otherwise, you are mistaken. Might not notice the first few years, but after that I can guarantee the population of deer will increase and you will still be able to kill young bucks. I have seen plenty of 1.5 YO 6 and even 8 pointers which would be legal to harvest. Granted those are the ones you really should let grow, feel free to blast away. 3 on one side isnt really much of a restriction when you think about it.
  18. There are two sides to this, meat hunters and horn hunters. I am definitely a horn hunter and have hunted in Illinois and learned alot about management. I have taken many nice bucks with my bow and gun. (yes I gun hunt also). I have a very good friend who lives in PA and you know what? Him and his brothers are constantly taking nice bucks. The population of deer is abundant and they have much better quality deer there. When I go fishing, I have to throw back about 80% of the fish I catch because of restrictions of size and quanity. Not the greatest feeling in the world, but I can tell you that the fishing here on Long Island is GREAT because of it. You are right when you say it is "My Opinion". I havent shot a young buck in almost 15 years, but I cant say the same for my neighbors. I dont have the AR in my area , but we have tons of deer. Horrible Genetics too. I want it to improve and it never will without the restrictions. So that makes me an idiot? I pay just as much money for my license as you do. Why cant the quality of my hunting be better? Do any of you shoot coyotes when you see one that offers a shot? Why? To improve the quality of your hunting. Same thing. Little bucks dont excite me and get my heart pumping. I like to see them and enjoy their company, but I want the excitement of a big boy coming through my area. Is he gonna offer me a shot? Should I try to grunt him in? Thats my OPINION. You keep on killing whatever you want, I am not telling you what to shoot. I am however telling you how I feel.
  19. There is nothing sad about the antler restriction program. Whats sad is that its not in effect for the entire state. NY could be just as good as the west, but the problem is the trigger happy gun hunters who refuse to let the 1.5 year old bucks walk. Shoot a doe instead. Whats wrong with that? Wouldnt you love to hang a 10 or 12 pointers head above your fireplace and tell everyone the story while your eating him? Well if you shoot him when hes a little four pointer (and very easy to kill), then you will never be able to do that. You might also want to re-consider your hunting strategies also. Sounds to me like the deer know your in the woods way before you do. I love hearing you all complain about never seeing deer, when its your own fault and you dont even realize it. My guess is that the deer know your coming the minute you step out the door. I think NY would be a much better place to hunt if there were bigger bucks and it would attract more people to the area. Know how much money the outfitters in Illinois make from hunting alone? Why do you think that is? Those guys let the 2.5 year old bucks walk and shoot lots of does. Thats the way to do it. That creates a much healthier herd and competition for breeding rights. In other words, spikes do not breed the does, big dominant bucks do. Bow season is the absolute best time to be in the woods also, so dont hate the player, hate the game. You become a much more intelligent hunter when you have a bow in your hand. Anybody can shoot a deer from 200 yards away with a rifle. There are tons of regulations for ocean fishing here in NY also and you know what, it has really made a huge difference.
  20. I think the Antler Restriction Program is GREAT and I hope it spreads to the entire Southern Zone of NY soon. I am tired of passing up little buck after little buck only to let some other trigger happy hunter kill it. Why cant the quality of bucks in NY be just as good as it is out west? If you want meat for your freezer, shoot a doe. Let the 1.5 YO bucks walk and then you will start to see some quality results. I love to bow hunt and take as many does as I can. I think NY has Potential for some nice bucks, but you trigger happy, part time gun hunters need to stop killing the little bucks.. Most of you refuse to shoot does also, which makes it even worse. I have seen so many pathetic 2.5 YO bucks that could have been so much better, but will never be because of the POOR management in NY. Lots of people will totally disagree with me, but go hunt with an outfitter in Illinois and see QDM at its finest. They have tons of deer and tons of BIG BUCKS.. If you hunt somewhere that you hardly see deer, then may I suggest hunting somewhere better or correcting whatever mistakes you are making so the deer are not educated to your presence.
