Hi All, I am just getting back into whitetail hunting this year after being 'retired' from it since 2002. I once hunted on my brother-in-laws farm in Altamont, NY for 27 yrs and took many nice deer with the bow, handgun and shotgun. No looking to bag a deer with a muzzleloader this fall for the first time. I live in the Rotterdam area and seeking new palces to hunt. I'm not that crazy about hunting State Land (I am also a former NYS DEC employee) as my cousin was shot and killed some 12 yrs ago on leased land actually when a 'new member' joined their exculusive hunting group. So I'm careful where I choose to hunt.... But seeking more places to hunt. Have a friend that wons some land in 5R that I have been hunting but it seems pretty dried up this year.

Has anyone hunted the Lake Desolation State Forest land recently - and if so - had any luck? The last time I hunted there was back around mid 1990's - I recall it was Northern Zone I believe. Has anyone had any luck hunting that area? We hunted it for a couple of years and never say much.
