  1. Haven't touched mine since I put it on the bow!
  2. Shoot as many as you can before deciding on one. Do not buy one without shooting it first. I see so many guys selling bows a month after they buy them because they didn't shoot them first. Personally, I would not buy a Bowtech because they seem to have let the customers do their quality control for them in the past and would not stand behind their crappy finish issues. I have not heard of any problems with this years models though. Don't buy a bow cause it looks cool, buy it because it feels perfect to you when you shoot it! Do yourself a favor and check out the Elite lineup and also the Bear Motive.
  3. In a perfect world, you should do all your scouting in the spring before green up. Then all you have to do before season is put up your stand and leave the area alone. From the sounds of it, I would look for a heavily used deer trail coming out of the thick swamp and set up near it and hope for the best this season. Then next spring, take what you observed this fall and scout the area thoroughly. Find a few good spots to sit and don't go back in there till you hang your stands next fall. You may get lucky and shoot one this fall, but if you keep walking around the area right before bow season, you'll probably do more harm than good. Those bare patches are not deer beds. They don't clear the ground, they just lie down. It looks like something is rooting around(pigs/turkeys?). What part of the state is this in? I know there are some feral pigs around Moravia and Scott.
  4. Yep. They will have hunting season so screwed up in this state that I'll bite the bullet and spend my $$ and time hunting in Ohio!
  5. One thing to consider with the WB is the noise factor. My friend shoots one with aluminum arrows and has spooked 2 deer drawing his bow on them. They were both on cold, calm mornings. He said it sounded like he ran a bow across a violin string when he drew back. This may not happen with carbon arrows but do you want to take the chance?
  6. The earlier, the better. Remember, a deers core area is like your living room. You would notice if someone put a new chair in your living room, right? Same goes for the deer. They notice any slight change to their environment and need time to get used to it.
  7. I've rattled a thousand times and never had it work. A friend of mine has had success with it and he told me I had to really bang the horns together. So the next time I went out I hit the horn together so hard they snapped in half. That was the last time I ever tried rattling!
  8. Theres no doubt that mechanicals do not penetrate as well as a fixed head but if your bow has enough KE then you'll be fine with a mechanical. I don't think the OP should shoot a mechanical head for this reason. He don't have enough KE in his setup. A fixed blade head I highly recommend is the Steel Force Phathead.
  9. I got a pic of this guy last fall in a scrape 50 yards off the road. The time is not correct on the picture. He was actually standing in this scrape with about 10 minutes of shooting time left. I found the scrape the day before, pissed in it and hung my trail camera just for shits and giggles. Imagine my surprise when I checked it a few days later! Peeing in a scrape works, I have proof.
  10. How do you like the banana grip on the Elites? Quite a difference from the Mathews grip.
  11. I know the sales manager at Copper John. I sent you a PM.
  12. I may have to give them a try. Right now I use NAP Killzones and they worked good on a coyote last year but didn't get to shoot one through a deer.
  13. Where do you get the Ulmer edge? They're 2 inch cut right?
  14. Has anyone used one of the Big Dog Ladder Stands before? Looking for some reviews. I have a couple of the Big Game Legend Ladder Stands and they're great but cost about $100 more than this one. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/big-dog-22-lancer-extreme-ladder-tree-stand.aspx?a=826549
  15. I've been seriously thinking of getting the Carbon Element for a couple years. Just cant bring myself to do it though.
  16. I think the longer they do this, the more participation it will receive.
  17. I've always had the best luck between Nov3-10. My 2 best bucks with the bow were both shot on the 6th.
  18. I agree. If you want your kid to love the outdoors, take them out with you during bow season and let them see how its done before they are old enough to hunt. I did this with my son. From the time he was 8 he was sitting in a treestand with me during bow season. The first time he saw me shoot a deer he was hooked!
  19. I hunt a very large piece of public land and didn't even see anyone out during last years youth season. I hardly even heard any shots off in the distance.
  20. Whatever dude. You're obviously the local computer jockey know it all around here. Let the kid keep listening to you and wonder why he's the worst shot in NY.
  21. Obviously you've never used On Target 2. It asks what type cam also, and its the best program out there for matching arrows to your bow. And if a 400 spine is correct when he shortens the arrows, wouldn't that make them too stiff for his current setup?
  22. I don't use UA. I need Tall sizes which they don't make. If I get regular length, when I sit down the shirt rides up my back and then I get a chill down the crack of my ass!
  23. You're totally missing my point. I'm not having a fit over anything. I'm trying to tell him to start with proper matching arrows for the bow. After he gets those he should get to a pro shop and have the bow tuned properly, then worry about buying pins/glue or whatever the hell he bought from Cabelas. You need to quit telling him those arrows are OK for that bow. Do we need to re-read this thread he started? http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/16549-groups-not-coming-together-is-this-why/
  24. I'm not mixing anything up. He's shooting the wrong arrows, his bow is more than likely way out of tune, he needs to get the bow to someone who knows what they're doing. I'm not the only one that has told him that, so I don't know what your beef is with me. I'm sorry I tried to help. Shoulda known better on this forum, all you guys like to do is bicker!
