Hello,
I'm James and I currently live in NYC. Last time I went hunting was with my grandfather back in Russia when I was somewhere around 8-10 years old, we went hunting for small game mostly (rabbits, ducks etc. but occasionally did a bear hunt too. It's one of the very few things I miss from Russia and I think it's time I get into it again, the nature is calling..
Now since I was still a little kid when I went hunting, all I really knew was how to shoot and nothing about tracking, gear, food or whatever else it is that a hunter should know. I'm basically below the amateur level when it comes to hunting.
I'll try to read this forum and browse online to try and get the answers to my questions before I start bugging everyone but if any of you have suggestions on where to begin, some links/books etc. I'd really appreciate it. As far as permits go and all that, I think I can figure it out on my own.
I'm planning to hunt by Albany for whatever type of game possible but deer would be preferred. The rifle I will use is Remington 700 in .308, slightly customized.
Please let me know what I should know before I get into hunting.
Thanks!
