  1. It ends December 31st. If that's not correct I'm the biggest idiot ever and have been illegally hunting the past 5 years. Can anyone chime in to assist?
  2. Just interested how many guys give a good effort this late in the season. Being a teacher I always look forward to having the last week off of the season. I have seen does in the past but never bucks this late. Have only hunted for 5 years and am hooked so having any full week off during anytime of the season has me excited. Any advice or past experiences on the island late season would be much appreciated for extra motivation. Hope everyone had a happy healthy year and get to enjoy many more.
  3. Try to look in cabelas bargin cave they usually have good deals. Also consider what you will be using them for, duck hunting waders have very large bulbous boots that are good for wearing a few pair if heavy socks. These type waders are not good for fishing jetties because korkers wont fit on the boots properly.
  4. Locked with a large cable and master. Sad!
  5. Spoke to the dec officer and it is perfectly legal to have ladder stands on state property. You must have it marked with back tag # or name and address, must also be put in no earlier than one month prior to opening day, and down one month after season closes.
  6. Sorry don't know how to post the pics.
  7. The old man gave me permission last weekend. I set up a stand on last Saturday and hunted it for the first time yesterday. Within the first hour this guy came to my scent and I decided to take him. This buck meant a lot because my family just moved into this house this year and I worked hard to obtain permission. Goes to show you some people are nice. I feel reall blessed. Not a Long Island beast but a trophy to me.
  8. No one said you go out thinking about making poor shots but you understand they happen. As for the pro athlete analogy you don't go out thinking your going to loose but you know it happens. Look at how many times struck out...don't think he went to the plate thinking he was going to. As for the Internet call out everyone you want that's your choice. My question is why do you feel the need to do it? Your right I don't post a lot of personal achievements on the web because I get satisfaction within myself and try to avoid negative people but if it makes you feel better keep on doing it.
  9. This is rediculous! He feels terrible about losing a trophy deer and seems honest and respectful and many others just try to make it worse. Making others feel worse in a bad situation is a very horrible character trait. Like all our mothers told us, "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything". I learned quickly that if you bow hunt you are going to hit deer poorly and there is a good chance you might not recover, it's part of the game. I wish you best of luck finding that deer. Had a similar situation last season on a very big buck. I know no one feels worse than you. Everyone should look at stats about the number of deer involved in car accidents. Should we all stop driving?
  10. Hunted yesterday on private property out east Long Island. Had one, if not my best day yet. Had a hot doe making laps with a buck parade in tow. Saw seven different bucks with one 3 year old shooter. He came in at first light and pushed off two young ones. Grunted him to about 15 yards but never presented a clean shot. Had action from sun up to sun down! My buddy was set up on the other side and saw all the same deer plus a 2 year old seven he let walk. Truly an amazing day in the woods! Looks like it is happening, unfortunately I work all week. Good luck to all.
  11. Shot a big boy last year from five yards away with a 70 lb now using full metal jackets. Caught him forward a bit a hit shoulder found plenty of blood and tracked for two days with no deer and no arrow. Killed me!! Ge if inches. Tough !!!!

  13. Really can't use a climber because the spots are thick and don't have any straight trees. I like being able to walk in with just my bow and be real quiet. I would hunt the ground but there are lots of deer and one would be sure to spook. I'm jammed up near the cat tails and have seen some big boys come out. It just stinks to have this happen.
  14. I just wrote a letter to a older man that has a nice piece across a pond I live on. I heard back from his daughter over the weekend and she said she would talk to him about it. I really hope this works out because walking out the back door and canoeing for one minute would be a god sent here on Long Island. Plus the place is loaded with deer and hunting public land on Long Island has become frustrating to say the least.
  15. I know they are not stealing because they want or need them but because they think its their property. Funny thing is I've only seen two other hunters in there in 5 years. This defiantly is not going to stop me from hunting "their spot" bought three more stands last night. It's upsetting because I have been passing on smaller bucks trying to only take a mature one because I love and respect the opportunity the property presents. Now I feel like any sit could be last before I have to replace the stand again so I will probably shoot bucks I would have passed if my belongings weren't messed with.
  16. Shawn and weasel your sure do seem to have fun with this thread..............hope you guys shot a monster. I wouldn't lie, remember I'm Honest Hunter. Lol
  17. Sorry I'm very sensitive today.
  18. There will be new ones marked with tag numbers carved in. Make sure you have files to clean up the numbers, don't forget to take the straps and garbage left behind also.
  19. Sorry but I gotta vent! Been hunting LI seriously for about five years. I hunt on a piece of wet land that requires a permit which I have. I have had good luck seeing deer and plenty of bucks. I used to fish like a mad man but got real addicted to this bow hunting game! Long story short, go in to check my two stands and hunt and both are stolen. I really don't understand how people can do these things, and most likely the dirt bags who did it live I the area and bait and drive around at night shooting big bucks from the back of their trucks. What is it with these fools, seems like a lot of hunters are just down right criminals to me. Sorry for the rant but this really pissed me off!
