  1. I'm sorry to hear this! When someone has that type of longevity and they lose their position it is disturbing. Good luck to you with what ever your next opportunity is!
  2. Less than an inch in 3A. Cold and Windy though. I'm very happy that it missed us!
  3. Very nice! To have a gift that you put so much thought and effort into is a special thing.
  4. It is definitely good reading. So far what I have read is not only interesting biologically but also has made mention of things I can relate to from a hunting perspective. The buck bedding article was really interesting. I have a spot that I hunt that mirrors what was written about, where deer bed high with the wind at their back looking down a steep side hill. Deer are in this area so consistently because it is so hard to beat their senses there. I look forward to reading a lot more.
  5. It's hard not to like Russel Wilson, I was pulling for the Packers though. The Packers seemed to play not to lose instead of to win.
  6. I cook with olive oil. We use real butter when food calls for butter. Din's how many gallons of Syrup do you bottle? ( on average)
  7. Great video. Very beautiful country!
  8. Tony Romo -yes Jerry Jones- NO, NO, NO DEZ Bryant-NO, NO So I guess my answer is no, not a Cowboys fan.
  9. I would hunt but not nearly as much and I certainly wouldn't have the same interest and resolve. I would probably limit myself to bow hunting and crossbow hunting. I don't hunt to fill the freezer and given the area's I hunt and the amount of time I hunt I could do that if I wished to. I do eat what I kill, just to close that possible conversation. Only hunting does would be more like killing than hunting for me if that makes sense, it just wouldn't be all that difficult to do. I live close to a number of area's that I hunt in and patterning doe groups would not be hard to do. I do kill does almost every year but I haven't the last two years because I have felt that our deer numbers are down substantially and I wanted to assist in having stronger populations come back. I would probably become more of a dedicated bear hunter, I like to hunt the mountains and to cover ground and I enjoy all of the experiences that come with that.
  10. I am also interested in ticket availability. It would be great to see a game at Fenway while going up to visit our daughter at college.
  11. http://www.wyverncreations.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=78&zenid=8d12c63f79b741f91adb794ab16bb65c Buy local if you can, but the above link is a great resource to research options.
  12. Different dispositions and tolerances. One of my hunting mentors said to me one time that big bucks are not curious and for the most part I believe that to be true. Their experience has taught them to vacate when there is any uncertainty. The amount of frequency that deer have contact with humans will also contribute toward how they will react. I commonly have alpha does that will not be able to figure out what I am and will either foot stomp and head bob trying to get me to move, or they will circle down wind and attempt to get a whiff of me. There are a lot of things that defy logic that we encounter while hunting.
  13. This stuff is terrifying! The lack of regard for human life is despicable and the randomness is so frightening!
  14. An amazon link. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=steve%20rinella&sprefix=steve+rine%2Cstripbooks
  15. Beautiful bucks! The big frame buck with the really long brow tines is a toad. Were you treating the licking branch or was it completely natural?
  16. I have long grown weary of these conversations. Between the people who aren't honest with their rationale as to why they shoot what they shoot, and poachers who shoot multiple small bucks every year on their tags and the tags of others and then complain about not seeing any big bucks in the areas they hunt. On whole we are not the brightest group around (hunters) and this makes us easy pickings for those who oppose our views and way of life, between our apathy, divisiveness and ignorance we are pretty much doomed or the next generation of us is. Excluding the young hunters or the first time hunters (I know some here get enraged if we deny a new hunter the ability to kill a spike horn) If you were in a deer rich area (assured of seeing deer almost every time you go out) and it is the last day of the season and you have a buck tag and a DMAP tag in your pocket and you see a 1 1/2 year old buck and some mature does in the same group of deer.(the assumption being that you have a clean ethical shot at all of them) If you choose to drop the 1 1/2 year old buck you are as much of an antler whore as those of us who hold out for a mature buck and you are lying to yourself and everyone else if you say that isn't the case.
  17. There is a range of cost for crossbows, just like bows and rifles. I have a Stryker that was in the $650 range. There are quality crossbows that can be purchased reasonably, either the low to mid range models from manufacturers or buying a used one.
  18. Steve is an excellent writer and his show is in my opinion the best that is on television. Aside from his sponsors who he has to hype(even that isn't to bad) the show is incredibly real. I wish I had his culinary talents, he definitely knows how to prepare food. I like his humility and ability to laugh at himself. He just seems like a real regular guy. He is a talented writer. Google Steve Rinella articles, you will see a lot of good writing.
  19. I have the same scope in a 3x9 on one of my rifles. It is crystal clear. Great optics!
  20. I didn't care for the mans politics, but I won't speak ill of him in his passing.
  21. I was going to say get down wind and set up. Of course I'm kidding. You either need to move your stand or you need to ask the owners permission to bag the corn and take the the other persons stand down. If that person is vindictive your stand might get trashed or stolen or he may foul up the area.. Likely best to relocate some where else on the property. Or at the very least bag the corn and continue to hunt your spot. Can you pull your stand and go in with a climber each time or with sticks and a light portable?
