Skyhunter I seem to agree that they are two different deer for the reason that you mentioned. The first one seems to have more of a stump and looks like the hair has almost covered the wound. The first one almost looks like it was born that way.

Just wondering if anyone on this forum is from up around Ray Brook. Sounds like I might be heading that way and was just wondering if there is any good places to eat and sleep up in that area. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

It has got to be a real tree. I put the tree up, water the tree and clean up the needles. My wife undecorates the tree when she wants me to tear it down. I too like the fresh smell of pine when I walk into my living room.

I just shot my first crow this year. I have hunted for them in the past but never had any success. I plan on doing some crow hunting later this year. I have been listening closely to their calls while I am deer hunting. I am decent at calling them in but struggle with the shooting part. Now that I have shot clay pigeons in the past year I am going to give it a shot again.

I have to eat something other wise I will get sick to my stomach. I usually have a bowl of serial and maybe something else. But I always have plenty of food in the backpack since we sit all day long.

In my personal experience I don't pay too much attention to scrapes or rubs. One year there were deer trails and a lot of scrapes and rubs and I hardly saw any deer that year. Then there was a year where I saw almost no deer sign and saw a lot of deer. IMO if you see deer sign the deer were already there. If you haven't seen a lot of deer sign the deer have yet to come. So just keep your hopes up and don't get discouraged.

I generally take 2 sandwiches, 3 candy bars, chips, granola bar, Mtn. Dew and water.

I have actually lucked out on the 1st day. I have taken 4 buck on the opening day and took 1 on the 3rd day. Geno I am like you. I will be heading up to NY on Friday morning. So unlike WNY I have to work the rest of today and all day tomm. But I won't have to return to work until Dec. 1st. Good luck to you guys and I hope to see some pictures of dead deer and stay safe.
