5 days to show time and things are really rolling! "Show plus full meal" tickets still have a little room to sell more, and the caterer is being very flexible, so that we can still offer these tickets through this Wednesday, the 10th. Tickets and information at: www.EdenDeerShow.com, or contacting me directly. Looking forward to a fun night! TrapperJohn -

Quick update to answer some of the questions I've been getting offline, and assuming others may have the same question: For the Charlie Alsheimer show in Eden on September 13th, the "Show Plus Meal" tickets were originally set so that they could not be purchased after today. I was able to talk with the caterer, and we can extend another week for these, so the website was updated to allow purchases for the show plus the full meal through this coming Sunday. This by far has been the most popular option, as the meal will be a quarter chicken, pulled pork sandwich, sides, drink, dessert, for only an extra $6.00. The "show only" tickets will be available right up until show time on the 13th. Tickets and information at: www.EdenDeerShow.com Items continue to come in for the give-aways as well. The Mathews Drenalin was delivered a couple days ago and the muzzleloader will be here this coming week. A number of other great give-aways came in as well as our special large auction item. Of course, the main attraction is the talk and expertise by Charlie, but we're looking to give lots of gear away as well. And, as always, don't forget something for the food pantry donation! We're looking forward to a great night and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. TrapperJohn -

Quick follow up to some questions that I am getting offline, that the meal tickets are still available for the Charlie Alsheimer show in Eden, NY on Saturday, September 13th, and a great deal for $6 extra. These will probably be available for the coming week or so, to get the final numbers in - they are selling fast. The top door prizes are being delivered in the coming week - a Mathrews Drenalin and a Traditions Buckstalker, camo dipped and scoped with a case - in addition to many other prizes and auction give-aways. Just delivered today is a full beginner's sausage making kit, including electric grinder to add to the Chinese auction table! And don't forget a non-perishable food donation for the food pantry... More information and ticket sales found at: www.EdenDeerShow.com Please help spread the word, thanks! TrapperJohn -

Great comments everyone, thank you. Reading these posts is getting me even more excited. Some more donations came in today for the door prizes / Chinese auction, and I'm looking forward to giving out as much stuff as possible. While the talk from Charlie is the main attraction, I figure it won't hurt to send some people home with some good gear and prizes as well! Please note that anyone interested in the tickets that include the full meal, the counts will need to be in by end of month or so. No pressure here, it's not that kind of show, but want to make sure everyone is in the loop on the timing. The meal tickets are the most popular sold so far, as you can't beat what you'll get for an extra $6.00. And don't forget a non-perishable food donation for the food pantry... Hi NFA-ADK - I can answer your question with a question myself, and how can I coax you and your family / friends to Eden to see the show on September 13th? (LOL - joking here...) I'm not sure how far East Charlie goes with his talk, but hopefully you'll get an opportunity to attend one. The invite to come to Eden is wide open, although a bit of a trek for you... As nyantler says above, the religious message at the very end of the show isn't an "in your face" message, rather a review of Charlie's experiences and how it's impacted his personal and hunting life. There is a lot of great deer information to be shared, as well as the opportunity to talk with many other hunters. Certainly it's up to everyone to decide what they want to do and participate in, and I can assure you that there are many positive reasons to come to the show on the 13th. I had an opportunity to talk to a lot of people at our local summer festival this weekend and there is a lot of interest and excitement about the show and the many give-aways planned. Tickets and information at: www.EdenDeerShow.com. The more tickets we sell, the more we'll give away... Thanks! -
Hi adkbuck, you're welcome. To answer your questions: 1. I have been putting in a little more each year lately and this past year, we grew about 3,100 heads. This coming fall, I am debating how much to put in still. Will be at least 3,500 and possibly up to 5,000 if I am crazy enough at the time... LOL 2. This was across 5 varieties, although I will condense to three next year. 3. Varieties are: German Porcelain, Music, Rosewood, Pennsylvania Dutch and a variety that my dad started growing about 30 years ago that I call Dad's Legacy. I'm not sure the exact variety, but it's a hardneck porcelain and grows some of the biggest and nicest looking garlic year after year. 4. As far as tips and tricks, I'm still learning, but some things I like to do: a. I plant in October, and mulch with straw b. I've mulched with leaves in the past and it's OK, but I like straw a lot better. c. For spacing, I put mine in rows, with seed about 8 inches across and rows 8 inches apart. d. I slightly hill the rows, mostly from the tiller behind the tractor, to help with extra loose soil and keep the drainage a bit better. e. I like a decent organic content in the soil over the years and every August, I plant a "Green manure" crop of buckwheat, that get tilled in before it goes to seed. f. I have pretty heavy clay soil here and over the years have used a good amount of gypsum to help loosen it up. g. We dug it all up on 7/11 and 7/12, due to timing and the fact that I wouldn't have time to do so for two weeks to come afterward. For one variety, it may have been a bit early, but no negative effects. h. Get kids involved... When it comes to cutting scapes, digging, trimming stems and roots, cleaning the outer papers, etc., it's all hands on deck. It may not be the most fun they have all summer, but over time, I feel that it's all a great learning experience for them. I. Sizes this year were pretty good, despite the cold and rain to start. A lot of variation in size, from the typical smalls, up to the largest that were 3+ inches in diameter for next year's seed. I've heard varying stories from others growing, from a good year to a lot more challenges this year due to the weather. I don't know that I have any secrets, but will give some more thought and reply if I think of anything else. Lots of good things being shared here on the post, thanks.

I grow a pretty good amount of garlic each year, about 5 different varieties. We harvested back on 7/12-7/13 this year, right before another monsoon hit that day. Over here, in Western New York, it was a better year than I expected with the weird weather and rains. Size was pretty comparable to last year, although I'd say a hair smaller. A few others that I know who grow garlic here had a much tougher year than last year. How did your turn out this year? Ho many do you grow each year.

Thanks everyone for the offline questions and your interest in the show. For anyone reading this post for the first time, please let me know if any questions or information that I can help clarify. I am excited about the number of people interested in the show, and also to be able to give away a lot of great outdoor gear. Please keep the questions coming and help spread the word to those who you feel would be interested in attending as well. Tickets and information at: www.EdenDeerShow.com. Thanks again and have a great weekend. TrapperJohn Alsheimer Show Flyer, Final.pdf -

Thanks Steve, I appreciate that. And I do understand your position on making sure expectations are set ahead of time - that is a valid point and one that I do take seriously. This has been a healthy exchange of thoughts and that's what we're all about. I just want to be sure that the details are as accurate as possible. While there is a religious element here, this will be a show about whitetails, the rut, hunting expertise, gathering other outdoor professionals prior to the show for people to take with and getting hunting gear back in the hands of as many guests as possible. For others reading these posts - first, thank you for reading and I hope you join us at the show. To be clear, this is an event being held at our local high school (not on church grounds) on Saturday, September 13th, (see www.EdenDeerShow.com for more details and tickets). The meal will be provided in the cafeteria and the show held in the auditorium in order to provide comfortable seating throughout. We will have a number of professionals set up to meet and talk to during this time in the hallways between the cafeteria and auditorium, during the Chinese auction time before the show. The show will be about whitetail deer, and at the end, there is a message about Charlie's personal faith experience and military support - a good message for sure, but I want to be clear with everyone that it is there. This is also not a message to push religion on people, it's about Charlie's own personal story and experiences, and how that has influenced his life and hunting - a very interesting perspective. Feel free to contact me if any questions or for group ticket sales, as I can offer a discount on group sales. Many guests have seen the show a number of times and learn something new at each event. Come on out for some good food, get to meet lots of people who share the same love of hunting and the outdoors as you do, and take a shot at winning a Mathews bow, a muzzleloader and many other outdoor related prizes. And don't forget a non-perishable food donation for the local food pantry, as it'll be getting closer to the holidays and many mouths to feed. Thanks! -

SteveB - thank you very much, I appreciate your comment a lot. We're really excited about the show and the many benefits it will provide to the community as well as the guests attending. Hundred of hours have gone into planning it so far and more to go to make it as full as we can, and also hand out as much gear to people as possible. Tickets and information at: www.EdenDeerShow.com. I'm looking forward to providing a memorable evening for those who wish to attend. Thanks! -

Steve863 - no, that is not the case. Yes, some people felt the religious message was more than what they expected, but there are a number of other threads and my feedback that this is not the intent or what we have experiences going to a number of these shows. Yes, there is a religious message at the end for Charlie's experiences, but in no way is it a message that is forcing anything down people's throats. This show is also being sponsored by our church and the material also depicts that there is a religious element to Charlie's message - that is actually something that a lot of people are coming for. From my own personal experience, the vast majority of the show is related to deer, their biology, the rut and the photographic presentation of changes through the seasons. Others have had a different experience and that is fine, but reading through the posts, there are other varying experiences listed here, not just the one you commented on above. I recommend people check out the show and decide for themselves, as there are many people coming for a repeat show and have nothing but positive things to say about the entire experience. I'm not looking to start an argument here, which tends to happen in other posts, but want to make sure individual comments aren't taken out of context and then added to, and turned into something that isn't accurate. Some of the claims and comments that you make above are far more extreme than what people were talking about. Thanks. -

CabinFever, nyslowhand - thanks for the feedback on the give-aways, and agree that we're looking to hand out lots of things to the guests attending the show, and give many different reasons for people to come to the show. For $10 (show only) / $16 (show plus the full meal), this is a great value and opportunity to walk out with some hunting gear as well as help support the community outreach and support center in town. Understand that you may not be up for the show itself and I urge others who have not seen the show to come and check it out for themselves. Lots of great deer knowledge and information that will help come hunting season this fall. I have spoken with many people who are signed up to attend for their 3rd and 4th time, and learn something new each time. Tickets on sale now at: www.EdenDeerShow.com. Please also help spread the word, the more tickets that sell early enough, the more stuff we will buy to give away and include in the auction. Thank you. -

Lots of good discussion and appreciate everyone's feedback and thoughts. A couple things I want to highlight are that the show in Eden will be a little different than other shows. We are looking to give away a number of door prizes, including both a Mathews Drenalin bow and a muzzleloader, along with many other door prizes. In addition, there will be a separate Chinese auction for many more outdoor related items and gear to hand out (hunting clothes, bow sights, arrow rests, knives, scent blockers, turkey calls, 125th anniversary edition Daisy BB gun, hats, shirts, gift certificates, and more - right now almost $4,000 in stuff to hand out and planning for more). The more tickets that sell soon enough in the process, the more equipment we will buy to give away. Similar to some other shows, we'll also have a number of organizations, clubs, and individuals to talk to during the dinner period before the show - lots of people to get to know and learn from. We are also doing the food a little different as well. While there will be some things for everyone to pick at, for an extra $6.00, a full meal will be provided, included a roasted quarter chicken, a pulled pork sandwich, various side dishes, etc. A lot of food for a small price, and prepared by a local, family run catering business in Eden. Lastly, there is a food collection for the Eden - North Collins food pantry to capitalize on a large group of giving individuals to those who are in need of help. All this to help benefit St. Paul's upcoming community outreach and support center in town, lots of good reasons to support the show and come have a good time. So, all talk of religion aside, the consensus is that Charlie knows what he's talking about when it comes to whitetail deer, and there are new things that people can pick up even after seeing the show more than once. My personal experience at prior shows is that the talk of Charlie's faith is limited to the very end (and a very interesting perspective to listen to), with the majority of the show focused on deer. If your experience has been different, I respect your opinions and comments. For those who would like to check it out, I am excited to welcome you to the show and am confident you will learn valuable information about whitetails, as well as the opportunity to fill up on a great meal and a chance to walk out with some great hunting related prizes and give-aways as well. Tickets on sale now at www.EdenDeerShow.com and please help spread the word to others that you feel would like to attend. Thanks. TrapperJohn -

Hi Machinist, thanks for the feedback and I'd like to clarify a couple things for others reading the posts. Yes, there is a portion of the show that relates to Charles' faith but that is not intended to push religion on people or force anything down people's throats. I am sorry if you felt that way. I have attended his shows in the past (and the main driver behind me helping organize the upcoming show in Eden this September, as it is a great time). My experience was that there was well over an hour of material with pictures, discussion of the rut and the deer's biology, and the last 15-20 minutes were a message of thanks to those who served in the military and then Charles' message on his faith at the end. By far, most of the show was deer related and everyone left the show very happy and interested in seeing his show again. I respect your thoughts and opinion and hope you give the show another chance. For others out there who have not seen him, it is a memorable show, with lots to observe and learn. Anyone that I have spoken with so far about the show that has seen Charles before is signed up to see him again - for some this will be their 4th or 5th show, as they feel it is that good. The intent here is to get as many people as possible together for an enjoyable evening and mix with other people having similar interests. There will be a number of organizations, clubs, and businesses to talk to prior to the show. Also, there are many give-aways planned, with the top door prizes being a Mathews bow and a muzzleloader, among other door prizes and Chinese auction. So far, almost $4,000 in give-aways planned and more to come as tickets continue to sell. Can I ask where the show was that you most recently saw and indicated that some people left early? Thanks. -
