  1. I'm skeptical of ozonics. It seems that the pros on the outdoor shows all push certain products and viewers feel the need to go out and buy them. Every time the pros get a kill, they spout off a whole host of products that got the job done like no other product on the market. It gets old listening to them spout off brand names and pushing products on us that they are paid to promote. Most of us can't afford half the crap they try and sell. My gut tells me that ozonics is a gimmick until a neutral party does a study on it. Does Consumer Reports test hunting equipment?...lol

  2. The video is one of those "occupy" freaks. Similar to the Occupy Wall Street hippies.. Lol. I wouldn't trust anything from those goofballs. The tarp is right against the tent and will trap condensation. A good bed roll or sleeping bag with some insulation under you will work. Of course some good base layers for you as well. I you want to use a tarp to keep snow off you need to tie it off to some trees or poles ( trees are stronger). Make sure it is angled down away from the entry point so the snow rolls off it. With a good vapor barrier/ ground tarp and a bed roll you will be warm. Getting up in the AM is another story.. Hope this helps

  3. Newhunter14,

You are not challenged! Sounds like buck fever has spread to does. It is important to breathe under control and talk yourself through the shot. Breathe, site picture, steady bow, pick a spot on the deer and steady squeeze of the release and follow through.

You also may want to check your draw weight. It only takes 45lbs to effectively and legally kill a deer. You have already seen deer and attempted to shoot. You already know the adrenaline rush you get. Just relax and walk yourself through the steps and you will have venison in the freezer very soon. Good luck to you!

  4. I had a doe blow on opening day when I was walking to my stand. It was before dawn and I didn't see the glowing eyes when I pointed the flashlight in front of me toward the food plot. A few more steps and the 3 consecutive blows and some running deer. I waited several minutes and slowly went to my stand. Nothing for the rest of the day. When I was leaving,  I checked a trail camera that I have in the food plot, the deer arrived about 5 minutes before I did. The next two days I went in after sunrise but didn't  seen anything. I have given it some time and hopefully they are back. If I had waited until after sunrise that wouldnt have happened. I like getting in my stand about 30 minutes before sunrise but this year I guess have to change that.

  5. I think it would be helpful if the DEC made an interactive site where a hunter can enter their WMU, species hunting and dates they are hunting. The DEC site would display very clearly the tags the hunter needed for each sex of animal killed and type of weapon used. Maybe display a hypothetical list ( if bow kill, then you need to do XYZ, etc. The main point is a WMU specific tool to keep it simple and eliminate any confusion with the regs for dummy's like me.

P.S. There is nothing wrong in my book with asking a question for clarification. For me, sometimes it's good to make sure my interpretation of the regs is the same as someone else's. I think this Forum is the perfect place to ask.

  6. I hunt anywhere I can usually in Delaware County, sometimes Orange. I also hunt in PA and NJ. I was fortunate to have gone out to Alaska on a bear hunt this past Spring. The cool part is a friend of mine lives out there so it was basically the cost of airfare and license. My buddy dropped a black bear but no bear for me. What a great experience!

I had no idea about this site or the hunting sites on Twitter as I just signed up last week. Lots of info and discussions. Pretty cool.

FYI- If you have not joined the National Deer Alliance (NDA) I highly recommend signing up. Membership is free and we need every deer hunter on board. The NDA gives every deer hunter a voice on issues we that most of us watched happen or read about in the new hunting regs. There is strength in numbers. Sign up is simple and only takes a minute. (www.nationaldeeralliance.com).

  7. I have a fear of heights too. I only use ladder stands because I still feel connected to Earth.. Lol

I started out using only 10 foot stands but have moved up to 15 and I'm fine. I take my time getting in,ALWAYS use a harness and use a line to raise and lower my weapon. The key for me is the harness.
