  1. I do hunt coyotes over bait. But, I have a question for you. If the coyotes are a problem and you want the m gone. Why bait them and attract them to your property?
  2. I used to to it all the time. I haven't in the last 10years or so. But, with the crows being as abondant and a burdon to the city, I am debating on getting back into it. When I did it I called the with a few decoys.( Fighting crows then after you shoot death cry)
  3. It all depends on how good of a string you want to go with. A string and cables will run anywhere from $40-$150 depending on brand.
  4. Pete's Guns in Carthage, NY right about at the 2 hr mark
  5. You bet. Deer season still not over and i was running my auger today. Pushing a little or maybe wishful thinking!
  6. I hear alot of bad opinions about the power belt. I like the 295 shoots well. As for weight. They all have alot of weight I go with diameter.
  7. I shoot the white hots. They seem to burn clean in my electra
  8. I have hunted coyotes with hounds for years, and killed many coyotes. FMJ poke a nice hole. however plan on the going a long long ways. If it is coyotes you are after, my suggestion may sound odd but it works. Go with a super light balistic tip or v- max and shoot center mass. If you stay off the shoulder the bullet will enter and do its damage and never exit. The exit woulds or the fur killers. And if you are after fox or cats, Good luck they are suck light skinned anything will rip and tear.
  9. I only crimp straight wall casings. As for presure build up. Yes it will CPU of presure but not to a dramatic amount. I use just a light roll crimp. It seams to help with feeding in semi pistols as well as in my personal carry pistol. I am putting the one in the tube every day before I leave the house. And the constant slamming of the slid will move the bullet, if not crimped. I have never seen a need for it in a center fire rifle. I shoot a light weight 350rem. The recoil is so bacd that, after you shoot the first shot. The SP ammo in the mag well all become flat points. With no bullet slip.
  10. I can tell you from experiance. As I grew up hunting from our camp right in the middle of the aderoundacks. Just like most have said. No if you think your are going to see alot of deer. Yes if you don't mind putting years into killing a real nice buck. Ratio is alot closer than most area. The old timers at camp would tell us, If you see 2 does and a bigger deer behind, don't even look for horns. However you might spend an entire season and not seethe 3 deer. My cousin was up last week end on the new snow and never cut a track on the 3 mile road into camp. But it is hunting. Not sitting on a field. and watching deer.
  11. - Make DMAPs only available to farmers that allow a certain number of hunters access to their land during regular deer seasons agree 1000000000000000000%
  12. If I knew where there was a buck half that size, I would forget about eating and sleeping, let alone ducks and geese.
  13. I practice at 53 yards ( just because that is all I can get in my yard) I would shoot a deer at 40 any day. However if that deer is already hit, the sky is the limit. I am shooting if I can. About 10 years ago I hit a doe real bad. (hind quarters) She ran up the hill and stopped at 65yrds. My second shot took out her liver. The more holes the better.
  14. congrats. And a great lesson early about importance of backing out.
  15. My personal suggestion is, what ever rifle or caliber you choose. Reload or buy some very light loads to prctice with. Let him shoot them and let it be all he knows. Before hunting you take his rifle and resight in with a hotter hunting load. Never tell the difference. He will never know the difference from the two loads when shooting at game!!!
  16. Ya what is the diff. from a scented pipe?
  17. Maybe the population in southern and western NY are out of wack. But not all NY is like that. I hunt in the Anderoundacks. When we run corners the old guys in camp say if you see 2 does and onother deer. 10 to 1 its a buck. That is m y problem. To many people here the doe problem and feel they can help solve it. It needs to be specified per location. Not just say NY
  18. I am a furm believer that cover scents and scent control are dependant onlocation. I know alot of guys who hunt farms. They will hang their cloths in the barn. I guess if that is what the deer are used to that is fine. As for the flavored pipe. I might work. After all their is a compony out now selling inscents stick as an atractant.
  19. I hear alot of talk about QDM on here. I am a supporter of antler restriction, for the simple fact as shown above. 1 person can not do it as long as his neighbors are not. As for reducing the does population: I hunt my A@# off to maybe see 15 deer a year. Along with seeing bigger bucks it is nice to see a deer period. All of the land owners who are killing does off are baiscaly reducing their natural BAIT. There is no more powerful BAIT than does.
  20. A couple of years ago I was hunting the northern zone late muzzleloader season. I decided to take my bow for the challenge. When I came out of the woods that night I was meet by a DEC officer who asked me what I was hunting. When I told him that I was deer hunting, he presented me with ticket. After furthur discusion with the DEC I aksed the question " You mean to tell me that I am getting a ticket for trying to shoot a doe inside of 40 yrds withmy bow, but I can leagaly shoot that same doe at 200 yrds with a muzzleloader?" Yes How crazy of a law is that?
