Hey - I'm in NYC too - I feel you! Plus no one I know hunts so all my education is from Youtube haha

Perfect - I was considering the 870 out of everything I looked at. Thanks for the store recommendation!

Hello -
I'm in the market for a shotgun geared towards waterfowl hunting. I am new to hunting and female, so I don't want a macho gun that'll give me such kickback that I'll fly backwards upon firing or spend too much $, my budget is $500 tops and I'm guessing I need a 20 gauge. I was considering a Remington 870 (the low end model) or even a Benelli Nova. I read that for duck hunting in LI or NYS whatever, the gun can not have more than 3 rounds in it, I'm not sure how or if that impacts what kind of gun I need to get. Also what kind of action is best?
Any and all model recommendations are welcomed. Thanks for your help.
P.S. If anyone knows of a good gun store in Manhattan (yeah I know), or LI let me know. Aside from looking for a gun, I need to know where to buy one!

Go to the Blue Mountain Sportsman Center in Westchester. You can shoot skeet there. The range in NYC isn't going to help you much with turkey shooting. There's also Calverton out in Long Island where you can also practice with the shotgun but you need a buddy to toss the skeets for you. Pretty much all indoor ranges won't allow you to use a shotgun unless you're shooting slugs.

I'll look into this Westchester location as well. I was starting to research where to shoot skeet. Thanks everyone. And you're right, shooting range is not the best for waterfowl/turkey hunting practice.

Best/least expensive place to shoot skeet near the city is in Ringwood New Jersey. Thunder mountain
P.m. me I have a few friends that live in the city and hunt
Hey thanks - I actually was looking to where to shoot skeet, I'll def look into this. Appreciate the tip.

I thank you should be asking about ranges first (to practice and be lethal) than places to hunt.
Shoot well at the range and you'll be surprised how helpful people will be.
Yes. I've been at the range since October. Unfortunately there is only 1 range in NYC and the people there are not hunters. They are either policemen practicing or shooting enthusiasts.

Well, this sounds great. One of my hunting goals is Boar hunting down south.

Thanks a lot for the feedback everyone. I'll look into closer outfitters for Spring Turkey in NYS (thought I found them all haha).

Hello -
I received my Hunting license during the summer. I live in Brooklyn, NY and do not know anyone who hunts or is remotely interested in hunting. I am looking for good outfitters either here in NY or in NJ. Def want to do Spring turkey but that'll have to be most likely in Jersey as from what I've researched Spring Turkey in NYS is about a 5.5 hr drive from where I am.
Well, if anyone has good Jersey outfitter options, let me know!
Look fwd to combing through the site.

I totally meant to say 12 and not 20! I like pump actions rather than semi's, almost feel like driving manual vs automatic, u have more control of the "machine."
I'm not sure if I need a smaller stock I'm 5'6, 5'7 between 125-130. I think I'd prob be okay with standard.
