  1. Anyone know of a lime quarry or supplier that sells bulk lime in Binghamton/Cortland/Norwich areas?
  2. If you get the small skull, it will make the rack look even bigger
  3. Yes, I got a Mountain Mike's on sale for like $25 last year from Gander Mtn. They were so cheap I bought whatever was left. The small size is the way to go for NY deer, but mediums fit as well. It was very easy, and you can adjust and rotate to get them to look right. They are excellent, pretty accurate reproductions.
  4. Field and Stream has some great sales on clothing... 50% off on most of their products. Looking to get a 2-man ladder stand for 50% off, so if anyone sees one, let me know!
  5. Ladder stand installation hoist! You might never need anyone to help you! http://www.fieldandstreamshop.com/p/muddy-ladderstand-installation-hoist/15mdyglddrstndnsttsb Other companies make the same one, all the same price.
  6. I have an old CVA Optima Pro, similar probably to the wolf. The V2 has the longer barrel, for more accuracy and distance. I believe the breech is different. Most importantly, hold each and see which one "fits" the best. Mine was picky with powder and bullet combinations! I found that the best combo was Triple 7 primers, with Triple 7 Pellets, and Powerbelt bullets. Bore butter as the lubricant. No other combination got the same accuracy and consistency. Double check that the finish is the same. Some of the CVA's have rustproof coatings in and out, others do not. The V2 might have the rustproof coating in and out. If so, definitely go with that one.
  7. Yes both do. The mesh seat is more comfortable.
  8. rivers edge bigfoot xl with the mesh seat. Gander Mountain often puts them on sale for $79 or you can take advantage of their coupon codes. I have 2 of them and 6 of the cushion seat style. I'm not big, but I don't like small platforms. It is the biggest platform, width and length, anywhere, especially for this price. The Big Foot Tear Tuff XL looks awesome too. The one mentioned in the previous link is no good because the cables narrow down to the one post under the seat, which actually cuts into your legroom. The stand is a little heavy, but you are probably hanging it for the season, so the effort is worth it for the comfort. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Rivers-Edge-Big-Foot-TearTuff-XL-Lounger-Hang-On-Stand&i=962722
  9. If you will eventually build on it, I would suggest buying a piece with a house already on it. This way you don't get a big surprise when your new and improved tax bill arrives. Then you can mortgage it, as long as it isn't a modular or trailer home.
  10. Do those of you who age venison trim the exposed "skin" that develops off, or leave it on?
  11. It's a disease. Like Jim Shockey says, if I'm not hunting, I'm thinking about hunting. I tell my wife I am stuck in traffic on the way home from work, just so I can sneak a trip to Dick's to pick up a few "necessities". Luckily, she lets me cure the disease regularly. At lunch, I'm here writing this! The last few weeks I've been getting out after work, driving three hours to hunt two hours... Imagine how much worse it would be with a trail camera with wireless connectivity?
  12. Yes you need an access permit to hunt DEP land. Here is the direct link. You will be able to print out the permit immediately. https://a826-web01.nyc.gov/recpermitapp/ Get a Butt-Out tool, rubber gloves, extra flashlight, tie wraps and a pen. Advil also good to carry baby wipes for many uses. I just purchased an external battery charger for my phone ($12 on amazon). Batteries go faster in the cold temps!
  13. I have reservations about shooting through the mesh on my blind because I am afraid that it will throw off the arrow. I use the old Crimson Talon broadheads, with the curved blades, almost identical to the Toxic Cyclones. Obviously, leaving the windows open/screens down doesn't provide as much concealment. So my question is, has anyone shot through the mesh? If so, did your arrows fly true?
  14. I love my Summit Viper, been hunting out of it for 10 years, but if I were to upgrade, I would go to the Summit Goliath or the Titan. The top section is a few inches wider. I am 5'8" 180 and literally don't have elbow room to fit within the confines of the stand without sitting on an angle, especially with cold-weather clothing on. I primarily bowhunt out of it, and have no issues with the bar in the way, as I stand up when I shoot. I don't like open climbers without a bar. The platform is too restrictive for me to feel safe without the bar around me. Plus, I prefer to sit than lean while climbing. The Titan has the wider top and longer platform, but the added weight might keep me from choosing that. The new one with the mesh seat looked interesting, but not sure how comfortable it would be without the padded backrest.
  15. I bought one from Lowe's years ago with a solid steel floor. It has held beyond its rated weight in rocks and gravel, and it was a great price. If you can afford to aluminum, that's what I would get, but I have short arms and deep pockets.
  16. Rain or shine, itching to get into the woods. I've killed deer on rainy days. Rainy and windy however, never see anything.
  17. Anyone know the status of the Cabelas in Woodbury? Is it open? If not, when is the anticipated opening? Did something come up to stop it? They were supposed to open one in the Meadowlands years ago and that fell through...
  18. Browning A-Bolt 30-06 is my choice. Bullets are cheap and widely available, ballistics are incredible, considering you probably aren't shooting past 300 yds in NY. Not much recoil, and will drop any animal in North America. Try one with a thumbhole stock!
  19. I had a neighbor who was paralyzed from the neck down. Wooden treestand collapsed, and he wasn't wearing a harness. With two kids and the wife waiting at home, I'm always strapped to the tree.
