  1. Thanks so much, Bill! I've found a lot of support here on the forum. I'd LOVE to eventually go turkey hunting and use a bow. I see that down the line for me. I'd love a seminar! I'll check out that YouTube.

  2. Well, it isn't an article in Field & Stream, but rather a short article for the NY Post. That being said, I think it's meant as a more general article for city folk. But a nice read-through.

  3. He talked about his wife once on a podcast and I believe he said she is a book editor and he met her (I suppose in NYC) when she was editing one of his books or maybe it was just for some of the many things he writes.

  4. I just picked up Rinella's books and for a beginner like me, these books are FANTASTIC! I was expecting to simply read a cookbook and learn some butchering techniques, but Rinella goes in-depth on every aspect of hunting, from gear to tactics & strategies to yes, some great recipes! I'm loving these books and reading them thoroughly. BRAVO!post-6792-1447370657868_thumb.jpg

  5. Thanks everyone. To be clear, I'm a newbie to hunting and shooting. I'm taking this time to research what type of 12 gauge I'm gonna get, save up for it and buy it around February, shoot for awhile at the range to get really comfortable with it, hopefully make some hunting buddies and go out with people next fall. I only really want to do deer for now and maybe in the coming years, expand to turkey, duck and maybe even bear!

So what I'm understanding is that this is a great gun, even though it's primarily for turkey/waterfowl birds as long as I get the rifled barrel for slug, correct? And when I am ready for turkey, I'll be more than set.

  6. I've been pretty convinced that I would be getting the Mossberg 500 in a couple of months but I went to a local shop today and the owner was telling me that I should consider the Mossberg 835. From what I can tell, it's mainly a water fowl shotty, but the owner was telling me it's very versatile and I could still get a rifled barrel for it. I want to mainly go after deer but in the future, i do want to try duck and turkey. What are your thoughts? A good gun, or is the owner trying to unload a used gun on me?

  7. Does anyone else have a Roku? There's a channel (among many others) called HUNT CHANNEL. I've poked around there with so-so results on quality programs. Anyone else find any good channels or programs?

  8. Thanks for the tips, Mike Rossi! The more I learn about hunting, the more I realize I have A LOT to learn! In my mind, my timeline is to save up for a good shotgun, go to the range and get very comfortable with it, hopefully meet good people along the way and maybe by next fall, go out with some people for my first hunt. At least, that's what I'm hoping for, best case scenario.

  9. I'm new to all this (both hunting and shooting) and am in the market for a 12 gauge. I was thinking of getting the Mossberg 500 but someone told me about Maverick 88, which is essentially a cheaper Mossy 500. I think it's great that I can customize it with Mossy 500 parts! Anyone have any tips on what to look for or things to consider with this shotty?

  10. Its a big thread so if it was already posted disregard. Id def go with a 12 gauge to start. They sell combo guns with a smooth bore and iron sight barrel. Mossberg 500 and remington 870 are two that come to mind right away. Id go shotgun before rifle just cause it gives you more options as far as game you can hunt. And you can use shotguns across the state, where you cant use rifles everywhere

Thanks diplomat019! This has all REALLY been a BIG help. I've felt so lost trying to find my way but now that I reached my goal of getting a license, I now can focus on a new goal, of getting a 12 gauge! I'm going to look into the two you mentioned.

    Thanks all again!
