He saw his first buck around 11:00. He watched me miss it at just over 40 yards

Can't believe I just missed that 8 pointer, went and got my friend from his blind and we were walking back towards the house, 8 pt popped out of a thick field of thissle right into the edge of the woods, his ass was to me and I started to slowly move towards the ground to go prone when two does came out behind him I froze as he turned broadside, I didn't want to spoke him so still standing I raised my gun out the cross hairs on his vitals and pulled the trigger, he jumped took two steps and stopped I chambered another round and hit the floor, just as I did the does spooked and they all ran, followed their tracks through the snow for 100 yards no blood nothing, did have a clean shot again at one of the does but didn't take it...... No 3h doe tags....... Great morning and exciting first hunt for my friend.

Quieting down haven't heard shots in 20 min or so

I have a friend out with me for his first hunt today, he is 100 yards from me in a natural blind he hasen't seen anything yet but keeps texting me to tell me how excited he is.. Every time I hear a shot in the distance he texts me... Really cool feeling to see how excited he is and introduce another person to our sport

Yes but after reading that law it seems like they May venture onto your property if they view some sort of illegal activity, they can not just come and ask for a liscense if they view a person hunting. You still have some rights and protections on private land.

Wow two completely different answers with in a matter of minuets, one that supports what I thought and one with what my friend said. It sure would be interesting to find out the truth.

I will preface this question with the fact that I do abide by the law and am only asking out of curiosity and what a friend told me..... He said that unlike regular police dec does not need permission to come on and inspect on private land. He said that since all wild game is owned by the state it makes it ok.. I do thank all of our law enforcement officers for the job that they do but I still think they should have to ask for permission and announce themselves before tramping around on someone's private land.

I do both, hunt Westchester, Putnam, orange, and Sullivan. Even where I hunt in Sullivan some of it is pretty residential. I bow hunted in liberty last weekend in a stand that is 35 yards from the house I was staying in

Or there are a few places in Sullivan that are still in 3m and not that far.... Roosa gap wustaboro open space and bashakill wma to name a few

I'd say with in 5 to 10 min before or after is just a acceptable margin of error and I bet dec would give you a break especially within 5 I'd say with a bow it's pretty safe up to 30 min but I don't condone blatently breaking the law

Nice, I'm going to try and run a nice sent drag from those three scrapes right to the field edge this weekend and see how it goes

This is a very heated argument! I think that we can all agree that the law is pretty stupid, I understand both sides of the coin, but I don't see a big issue with shooting within a few min of legal time..... I mean my watch could be set different then yours, yes cell phones have exact time but my phone and my watch are often a few min apart. I think the important thing here is just make a safe decision in what ever you do.
