  1. Predate, the park now has a cabin for rent. Any idea how the hunting is in the park, how about bear spring. Would it be a decent place for someone who hasen't really had time to scout the park to hunt ?
  2. So I have some vacation time and was thinking of taking a few days during the end of bow or the beginning of gun and going somewhere new to hunt, has anyone ever hunted this park or does anyone have any suggestions of state parks that either have lodging or know of one with lodging near by that would be fun to hunt ?
  3. So I'm guessing him helping me drag out a deer would be ok!
  4. Cool I'm gunna bring him out opening weekend and put him in a climber in the tree next to mine
  5. I have a friend who is thinking about taking the hunter safety course. Am I allowed to bring him along on a bow hunt with me if he does not participate?
  6. Try chuck short rib and brisket, great burger blend for any animal... With venison mix in a little pork or beef fat

    Ethics question

Another side note, I would like to donate a deer this year, I am deciding between the food bank of westchester which would be a good and obvious choice, and the wolf sanctuary in north Salem. The wolf sanctuary likes to feed wild game to animals they plan on releasing back In the wild so they do not get a taste for domestic animals and become a pest and a danger to farmers. Sure would love to watch the wolves eat a deer!

    Ethics question

I just wanted to throw a disclaimer out there to let everyone know that I was in no way involved with what happend in my friends back yard, I just thought it would be a great question for the group.
  9. Vapor rub helps a little, but what's the point of opening it up at all, not worth it. For what the tenderloins?
  10. Zag, why would I be kidding if you take off the hind and front quarters and pull out the back straps you have salvaged a good portion of the meat. Also you got rid of any risk of eating anything contaminated from the guts. You also don't have to deal with the smell and mess of a gut shot deer. It's also perfectly legal..... So why dont you explain to me what your problem is with what I said!
  11. Just quater it out and take out the back straps don't gut it

Firearm would not have worked. He lives in southern westchester.

Ford I agree that it is a personal question. However I do believe there is an answer to my question, because I asked for people's personal points of view not a definite right or wrong answer.

Season and he should have called the local police or conservation, any comments.... I am personally fully ok with what he did
  15. Ok, so I have a question for everyone. A few weeks ago a few friends of mine were hanging out on one of their back porches located near a major road, a doe stumbled into my friends back yard, she had obviously been hit by a car. Front leg all torn up and broken, she was not walking on it, a gash on her neck. And one side of her face was pretty smashed up and her jaw was broken. My friend went in his house got his bow and put her out of her misery. He then salvaged all the meat he could from her and put it in his freezer. One of out friends keeps saying what he did was wrong because it was out of sease
  16. Just so yuk all know those are ramps, a cousin to garlic and onions they are prized in fine dining restaurants and can actually sell for over 15 a lb. pickle the whole thing
  17. Leg bones and all the tendons are the best, roast along with carrot celery and onion do not boil simmer for 6-8 hours
  18. Dooley, what's your address! I'll take care of him for you????
  19. There are bear in the park, last year I had a mother with a cub walk within 50 feet of my stand, if she was alone I would have taken a shot... Would have been an easy drag out as I was only 100 yards from the road in the bow only are near the intersection of 17 and 17a. Has anyone else noticed that you can actually hunt I'm the grass parking area the use for the Ren fair once gun season starts.... Might be nice to try the wide open field with my 30-06 on opening day!
  20. Two years ago I got both my dmp's in 3p last year no such luck, I'm going to buy my license this weekend and will be applying for 3p and 3n either one will work for me. Since I am more concerned with filling my freezer than getting antlers, I can always use my buck tag and take a doe in westchester if it comes down to It!

    well i did it

The first dear I ever killed with a bow was using reapers, she was quartering away and the shot was at a good angle but a little far back for what I would have liked, the reaper pushed up through her gut and clipped one of her lungs. Took her about 2 hrs to die, actually saw her fall after tracking for over an hour. Awesome broad head that gets the job done
  22. Trees creeking sound like grunts lol
