ChrisW You really need a lesson on whitetails, if you think ANY of those bucks 1 shot were 1 1/2. I am very familiar with seeing fawns ( button bucks) and 1 1/2's small spikes -3 or 4 pointers, clearly NONE of my bucks. I have been very fortunate harvesting 3 wall hangers off the state land, and I can count on my fingers the amount of time I have seen deer of that caliper. 2 1/2's and 3 1/2's are what I am after where I hunt
For the guys trying to play Super Troopers and re con where I hunt, Mount Morris is not 9P. If you look further then my last couple posts, I purchased a house I am flipping in Mount Morris 2 streets away from the park. I have read on this forum before, never had an account. Nor never wanted one, I never liked how many guys wine and bicker over silly rules or what people say. BUT I wanted to due my diligence and see what a mature buck was before heading out to the stand on the property.
Bozo ? Seems like you have a lot to learn about respect Buckmaster7600, im sure you won't honor your bet either- because you just LOST. My Sierra is full of car seats is factory height. -
I 100% and respect what you're saying stoneam2006- I was actually not even the person who started this conversation. Just seems to have the strongest back bone to keep it going, but yes it is tough not to say anything after seeing a half dozen of so tiny deer harvested already on this forum. That is why I jumped in and said what I wanted to say, I am glad many agreed and disagreed with me, I think we all know deep down what is right.
LJC No need to personal message me again or keep posting me about my location, I will not walk you to my stand either. I take out co workers and friends to my area without hesitation, I have no intrest in telling someone my area who has done nothing but doubt my integrity. A mans word is all he has, and I have been nothing but honest- so do us both a favor and don't doubt my word again ! -
Great comments gentleman, so much of hunting is lessons. I hope this is a lesson for people who need it, the more yearlings that live only will make for more trophies and fuller freezers for everyone- win win win for everyone !

I can't believe the lack of confidence people have from " State land " , the name calling and disrespect- real mature guys.
Well only photos will validate me, and I think it is great how skeptical so many of you are that I harvested these on state land, and no I am not next to a farm which I was asked. I hunt solid timber, heavily hunted and I still always get the job done. I feel great shooting a nice buck after letting a smaller one walk by, here are photos of some of the racks, the other racks I have are at my Uncles cabin- including my biggest wall mount.
I was also asked what do i consider a mature buck ? Everyone of these bucks are mature- big body, good racks and NO WAY any of these are 1 1/2 like someone was commenting. These are all 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 year olds, for NY and state land these are GREAT mature Bucks.
Lets see if you can keep the comments respectful this time- I doubt it !

Tonight as I parked a young guy was there waiting , he wanted to use our posted land as a route to the field on the next farm to shoot one of the 20 turkeys that were In that field . I said sure even tough I was hopping in a stand near to that spot . We walked In together . I was in my stand , when bam bam and my woods went silent .
But I smiled as I knew he got his bird, even if it may have effected my hunt.
To bad you're inlaws rules are so strict on you Larry G , Must have been tough not shooting that fawn earlier !

I can't believe how defensives some guys are getting, and how many names I have been called. My prediction is is you're hating on my comments you are a FAWN KILLER hah
Once again I am going to state my point- I seen first hand opening day last year, some S.O.B. pulling out a deer 1 handed, said he couldn't tell how small it was until he got up to it. That is unacceptable to me, no excuses !
People keep commenting about rack sizes, you can't eat racks blah blah blah - my point is its not that hard to harvest a MATURE buck or doe. Guess what ?!? You get even MORE MEAT. If that is so important to you, only makes sense to shoot a bigger more mature animal.
If you want to be the man known as a yearling killer, and fill up half a grocery bag full of meat, good luck with that. I will continue judging with disappointment ! LET THEM GROW !

Listen to yourself, your excuses are embarrassing to listen to. Even is my area where deer are as scarce as reports say, I still see does constantly- and the deer that started this discussion was a 6 month old male, so small it will be tagged as a doe.
Just for your info I am 9 straight years of harvesting a 6-12 point buck on state land, with pressure all around me. Hunting thick forest, no food plot, no private land, and it is no problem for me to harvest a mature buck every year. So no there is no excuse for someone to shoot a deer the size of my Boxer.
I fought very hard keeping our Country safe as a Ranger, every mass casualty incident I have been in I always saved women and children first, I WILL NEVER encourage a fawn being killed. Take pride in what you harvest, not an adolescent with no chance.
I look forward to the day NYS instates a 3 point minunum -

That is all I have hunted for my 18 years of hunting, with 5-10 other trucks in the parking area.
Try going in the woods more then 50 feet- you would be surprised mature deer ACTUALLY live in woods, tough to believe I know.

Sodfather I disagree- I think this was the right place right time, clearly everyone reads this thread.
There is so excuse for someone to shoot a 6-8 month old deer, if someone is that desperate for meat- 2 weeks of meat is not the answer. Just pure laziness in my opinion and lack of skills, its not hard to kill a mature doe or a couple year old buck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish fawns spots stayed on for a year- so they would make it past there first hunting season and mature for the next year. There are clearly to many hunters out there that can't judge a yearling when they loose there spots.-

I have never hunted the park, I am about 1/2 mile South of the Damn - East Side of park. Looks like its going to be a wet morning, I plan on heading down to the tree at noon and stay till dark.
Sounds like you guys are heading into some wild terrain tomorrow, if you get in a pinch your self or need assistance hauling a harvest out, feel free to send me a p.m. or post on here- I have no problem assisting. Are you hunting the East or West side of park ?-

I will be hunting about 5 minutes East of the park Saturday, first time out this season. Temperature looks great, going to be in the low 40's, hope the rain holds out- not looking good though.
Genesee Michigan - your update definitely excites me. I am hunting a small block of woods, but is full of acorns- no corn by my woods, just a large 90 acre alfalfa field. I will have my tree umbrella on and try to sit all day. Looking forward to the weekend updates from the area.-

That is pretty funny- my brother and I are best of friends and also hunting partners looking to split a property also. I agree, especially people with hundreds of acres, I admire them very much. 24 acres sounds perfect ! I had a sign at the Inn this summer looking for land, land/cabin. Some one removed my sign though, need to put another one up.-

Hey Taylormike, Good to see fellow hunters in 9P on here. I unfortunately haven't made it out yet, I will be out the last weekend of October. I am really looking forward to see what the cameras show, and what I see in person.

Thanks Larry, I look forward to getting out there on Sunday and see what wants to make an appearance. You sound like one of the guys I hunt with - we call him a " Jumper " seems like he drives 10 minutes away in every directions trying to find the deer. I stay true on the mountain I hunt, I have been hunting there for 14 years. I am very comfortable with the area- knowing all the terrain and exactly where I am.
It is a nice area ! Seems like the last 5 years the hunting population in my area has doubled. Guys all over- good to see more guys out there now a days, dissapointing when I let 2 small 6 pointers walk by me last year and heard them both get blasted by the same guy about 30 seconds after seeing them. I am not an advocate of " If its brown its down" . Good luck this season out there ! -
Theres a "Black Moon " Friday night, happens every 32 months, lights out for the deer. Rain or shine ill be out !

I figured Core- just joking also ! The population definitely seems to be increasing, the last 2 year I have had 1 bear on camera all summer. I have had 4 different ones on camera this year so far, hopefully this is the year one of us from our camp has the opportunity at one.
Hopefully the population is increasing in your area also ! -
I assumed they were Fishers as well, never personally seen one except seeing them trapped on t.v. - so I googled them to confirm, I never knew they had such long tails. I have about half a dozen photos of them, would be pretty cool to see them with my Bear in hand.
Hey Core- that must have been you 50 yards from my stand last year opening day. Thanks for leaving at 9 a.m., it paid off for me staying in the cold and harvesting a nice 2 1/2 yr old7 pointer at 10 a.m.- I am getting much larger and older bucks on camera this year then the previous 3 years I had a camera out here, so I am very excited to see what I see this year !
One problem I have, the 7 guys I hunt with up there - not 1 of them seen a buck opening weekend last year. So I notice this year there cameras and stands are moving closer and closer to my ' Honey Hole " haha

Thanks guys, it is definitely the right spot for the camera. I had 4 other cameras out, they all had 0 pictures- this camera had 1200 photos I can't believe it. Only took me about 13 years to find this "Honey Hole" , it is right on the edge of some pines in the thicket , 20 yards from a creek, in a fairly steep ravine.

I though for sure you were going to say the West Side of the park was the hot spot, I am getting more and more excited about this area. I reside in Rochester and normally drive about an hour past Mount Morris so some state land I hunt. It will be interesting to see what this property produces, if nothing else a place to sleep and wonder to the park. Thanks for the info Four Season Whitetails. I seen your comment about previously harvested deer, I will look around and see if I can find them.

Thanks for all the responses fellas, I know this subject turned into a sensitive subject- a lot of guys out there do not like hearing others opinion. But I know a lot of people are ok with it and learn from it, so I will reiterate and be more specific this time- so everyone can understand my view point.
In my opinion- no deer small enough you can pull out with 1 hand should EVER be shot, we all know what the yearlings look like. They deserve some time on this earth and a chance to mature enough to defend them selves the next year.
Yearling button bucks should not be shot- why not just shoot a doe ?? Shoot a mature doe- get more meat and let that buck grow a rack the following year, so you can see what he kind of potential that buck is going to have and you can make an ethical decision on what you want to do !
I am glad to see the dynamic of comments changing and more people agreeing with what I am saying, I would think almost all hunters agree with this except the people that are told to go right and then go left just out to spite !
I think its about time to get off this repudiative subject, glad we all had a chance to view our points. As I sit here holding my 2 week old baby girl, I say LET THOSE BABIES LIVE THIS SEASON ! Good luck everyone, I will be heading up to the Southerner this weekend with a group of 5 others.
