easy answer meat: technology.The older aluminum arrows were the next best thing when they came out with them.That was that generations technology that the older guys were wondering why about then.They were saying whats wrong with a good hickory arrow and nice long bow?times change and thank god you can enjoy the advances of curtain technologies like they put into these now archery equipment.

there is no such thing as a spot no one else knows about.But there is the spot that no one else goes.But on state land good luck.For every hundred hunters there are in that area there is at least one dedicated to getting that big one.He too willl be heading to that spot no one else wants to go to.Be steath,quiet,and scent free when you go there and your chances are greater. Private land is NOT easy to aquire.But there is more state land in NY than you imagine.State land is great to hunt if you scout it.Use The DEC interactive mapping tool on google earth that is in a link in the general hunting thread i believe.Then go scout some out.

sandy pond has any where from 5 to 8 inches but alot of that is SNOW ICE.I talked to some guys coming off the pond today and they said some spots has 3 inches of black ice and 3 to 4 of snow ice in top of that.Would not take any machines out on it.They didn't catch anything they said.I am going to wait till sunday and i think i might hand tow my shanty out there. Henderson had a lot of open water and no tracks going out on the ice.I didn't go out to check it but i also read on Iceshanty.com that it was not safe ice yet. Chaumont bay had alot of open water and the people local bait shop said it is any where from 2-6 inches.Not very safe ice and nothing much being caught that they know of yet.

I don't keep nothing smaller than my 8 inch hole.I have limited out straight from wigwam.But I like to fish in 12ft to deeper water too.Depends on the day,time,and Moon.(cough cough).

I read about there being 4-5 inches straight out from the wigwam on sandy pond.I will update tomorrow night.Thinking of going up Saturday.but we have more snow landing on the ice tonight.GRRRRRRR I am itching to get on the ice.Who is going to if its good ice?
