30 yrs ago people werent so addicted to the antlers as it is now.Of course a 10 or 14 pt was sure bragging rights but people didn't focus on it like now.Now its like a status quoe in the hunters would.If you can't bag a big buck you not the best hunter.The antler addiction is driven into young hunters nowadays.IMHO.its who can bag the biggest buck now.people pay so much money for big bucks so they can show of the head and brag about it.Where has the hunt gone to in hunting?what happend to men being proud of hard work dedication before they spend thousands of dollars to get satisfaction out of something that they had to pay for?If i hunted state land with a low deer population and shot a 6 pt on the ground with my bow that would be an earned kill.If i posted a pic of it and the story no one would care.Why?because it wasn;t a monster.Thats all everyone cares about now.how big is rack is.Not the hunt.All these TV shows and magazines and propaganda are pushing it more and more.I dont know but to me it isn't about the size of something i hang on the wall.Its about the hard work and using what little i had to make it work that satisfies me.And untill some of these new hunters realize this they wont be real hunters.Just an addict to something that in the end wont mean a thing.And will probably be put up for sale or put in the attic when they die from their remaining family members.Memorys of a good hunt wont ever die.the joy of a good hunt stays in you for ever.

if they went to ar's then they would hand out twice the amount of doe permits. If i had to choose i would chose the one buck.But then i wouldn't ever even gun hunt cause I would most likely get my buck during bow.

i agree with you all the way Paula.I had big intentions for myself this year.I have been really paying attention to detail when i scouted.I put alott of my spare time into putting my stands into just the right tree.Put alott of time into my planning and gear.Took of time for vacation and wanted to get my first wall hanger this year.but the weather just wasn't right.I got a buck that i am proud of and it wasn't even in one of the stands i had put all that time into.LOL.It was out of my climber in a tree on a trail in a swamp.I switched up quite a bit.I learned alott.I learned that deer like the thick stuff.Where you cant barely get a shot off they like to travel.Saw more deer this year than last year though.That is a good measure.With warm weather and them not moving means alott to me.The weather was nice to hunt in though.LOL. But the main thing like you said.The beeing in the woods is the best part.And that is what makes you a good hunter.It isn't about how much you put in the freezer.Even if thats all you hunt for it isn't how you measure your season.Its what you learned and how grreat of a time you had doing it is how you measure your season. Thank god we live in a country you can persue wild game to take for your self.With a bow and a firearm. Bow hunting is definatly great if you wan't to get into it.The weather is better and the deer are moving more.Pluss you get to hunt them in the chase faze of the rut too.When they are really moving.

during bow i can sit all day no problem.Some days i intend on sitting till just 10 or so but just can't bring my self to leaving my stand.And when i do,i slowly walk back home.Sometimes i will even stop on the way and sit behind some brush and stay there for an hour or so.During archery i am in heaven.I can try to blend in as much as possible and hide trying to sneak one on a buck.See plenty of deer and that is very injoyable. During gun is a whole diferant senario.I start to lose my interest.I havn't seen very many deer during gun season ever.I have tried and keep trying new tactics and they just don't seem to be moving when im in the woods.By the end of gun season i cant barely even get up to go into the woods.My esteem is just shot.I usally leave about 10 am and sit from 2;30 till dark.thats if i can push myself to get into the woods. If i am hunting state land during gun i can stay in the woods all day but i move around alott.I scout and hunt at the same time.Just the being in the woods is pleasursome enough.

when my 11 yr old bugs his 7 yr old sister she ignores him.It works. This is the same thing.childish crap.Just ignore it.

both of mine i did this year were skinned immediatly after pictures and then quratered up right away.Within 12 hours they were in the freezer.And they still taste great.

I woulda citizen arrested him and draged his no good road hunting axx outa the truck and put him face first in the dirt! Nah dude just kidding.I wouldn't even care.Just tell hime to use his quad next time.I would say well over half of the memebers here would shoot a deer from their quad if they had the chance.If there was a huge buck in front of them when they were on it i bet they wouldn't pass up the opportunity.They will say otherwise though.just to keep their internet reputation of "the most ehical hunter out there".

At least there is ice fishing to get your mind of a bad season of hunting.But not this year.Last year we were on the ice up at sandy pond the last weekend of gun. I dont know but this is going to be a strange year for the ice maybe.Once we get some freeze i think we are going to get hammered with heavy snow so it will be some slushy iffy ice in some areas.Kinda like last year but we had ice earlier. I don't know,i just want some dang freezing to happen.Itching to get out there and drill some holes.And eat some fresh caught pearch!!!!

im glad my only hunting partner is my uncle.And he wears orange and alot of it.And he is a marksman shot.One shot one kill.I have no fear of hunting with him. Saw a guy i know doing a drive last sunday with no orange at all on.Him nor his GF.Ya dude you are cool.LOL.

I have one.Havnt used it in years.Lost permission on nieghbor tract so i am fixing mine up.I putting a plot in front of it.It will be my meat on my table.And a safe place ot take the kids hunting and watch deer. I still love to hunt in the elements and search new land.I havnt hunted this in the past years cause i like to hunt "fair chase".I love venission tho.so i am going to fill my freezer with whatever lets me kill it outa it.

last year on the last weekend of late season i was on watch and witnessed some late season rutting.Two seperate bucks tending does.But it was 4 deg at sunrise and 15deg at obout 9.30 when i couldnt stand the cold any more. This year was way too warm.I think the late season rut isn't going to be like last year.I aint alzhiemers or nothing but just a hunch. i would hunt between bedding and food source.But that is usually the best spot any time of year really.

funny how some people say if it was a spike i wouldn't shoot it but a 4 or 6 i would.then go and say that they are just meat hunters.The spike,4 and 6(most likely) are all 1.5 yr old deer.The spike was just late born.LOL.They all taste great. If its is a 2.5 yr old 6 then its gonna be a big 6 or bad genitics.
