seen a scrape on state land. But the branch above it wasnt touched.so i didn't get too excited.I have only found one on my property right in the thick thick crap right in my back yard.Pretty good sized tree.My 11 yr old actually found it.LOL. Funny thing is.All week no pics at all of anything. On two seperate cameras in some verry high traffic areas.I dont know.hope for the best this saturday and sunday i guess.Usually this time of year behind my house is full of rubs. Not so much scrapes but all rubbed up. There is some logging going on out back and i think it has chased out the deer some.Got tons of human scent back there now.

cool vidieo!! Might sound crazy but if it was my son having this problem i would take off all the silencers and have him shoot 4 to 6 inches low.Anticipating that the deer would jump the string.

who hunts state land?and what have you killed on SL?
arrow nocker replied to arrow nocker's topic in Deer Hunting
^^^^ My uncle kills deer every year with this tactic. He likes to go back to the same spots that he shot one before or has seen deer at before. He has killed multaple deer at some of the spots through out the years. He is getting too old for the hard scouting.but years of doing it before and knowing how deer are creatures of habbit pays off. If you find some oaks, sooner or later if you sit long enough, something will come through.Might be alooooong time, but something will.LOL.that is the luck factor. -
do you hunt state lands and what have you killed while hunting on state land? Also. Do you concider your kill luck or skill?I mean did you put a lott of time in scouting and knew that the deer might be coming through at a certian time.Or did you just find a nice spot that looks kinda nice.Maybe some oaks and just sat and got a lucky passer by. I know that state lands i hunt can be tuff to hunt.Alott of hard woods and rivines with valleys with hemlock.Food and bedding everywhere.Hard to hunt.Takes a lott of time and scouting. Most deer i have seen have been just by accident. After hunting a scrape line for a couple days i see nothing.but sitting on a log on an edge of a hill looking down through some hemlocks i see deer.I have yet to shoot one on state land. But my son has.Go figure.Which was luck.Since it was our first time at that spot.

and it all changes when they start chasing the does trying to get some tail.It just takes one doe to come through at night, and a buck hot on her trail in the morning. You never know.Right now they might not be there,in three weeks who knows?

take a shotgun with turkey shot.you can shoot squirlls with that too.Thats if you can get close enough to the litle varmants. Go to the DEC website. It has all the regulations and laws. That way you aren't breaking any laws. Scout for some rubs and scrapes and deer runs for when you come back to deer hunt. While scouting move slow.super slow and do some calling for turkey.Listen for some clucking.Wear orange when moving. You could get shot.Turkey are the gost of the woods.Alott of times you wont see them or hear them till its too late. They have awsome eyesight.Best to sit still and call then move after about 30 mins to another spot and do some calling.

good thing it didn't have a mama near by.that coulda got bad.Wonder what kinda dog he was walking.mine woulda ate the deer as soon as it tried to run.

cool. Its a cambrella this is a good idea for the Wildview cam i just bought. It looks like water could get in it easy. -
sounds like you got a real problem with those folk around you then. They just plain dont have once of respect is seams. It is def a respect thing when it comes to shinning lights near houses or barns. And stealing trees. That is low.Need some law enforcement that does their job it sounds like.Seems like no matter how much you call them it doesn't help. Then when you take matters in your hand the law treats you like a criminal.Whats this country coming to?

I got a desert camo suit of ebay.for 22.00 shipped.and took 2 fat sharpie permament markers and 1 regular chissle point sharpie. At first i took alot of time trying to be precise with the design. Then after a bit i just started to get into a groove.Kinda like drawing a tribal design on it.I just made sure that i made the ends all come to a point.Helps the design to blend in i believe.Just like the Predator or ASAT brand camo.I need to go over the black once again. It isn't dark enough i belive. Can't wait till i get it in the woods.

beats florida hunting.I hunted in shorts and no shirt with a bug tamer on over top.Cant hear nothing but buzzing from the masquitos. Now thats some hot hunting.Even in the palmetto swamp!!So up here if its 70 i might hunt.It all depends on how lucky I feel.I have seen many a deer in the woods in 70-80 degree weather while setting stands or just scouting or hiking. I perfer 45-55 tho.Perfect temps right there.

sometimes the deer arent in that feild till 2 am.I have been spotlighting every hour of the night.Just cause i am law abiding doesn't mean the next guy is.I would say to call the law.If i get pulled over at 2 shinning the cop will just let me go since i am doing nothing criminaly wrong. But if there is someone shinning with a gun in their truck i hope the cop gets em!

i take my kids spot lighting areas that are way far away from any where i know i will never hunt. They love to see the deer and sometimes cyotes.I am perfectly legal. And yes sometimes i may take them really late.If you think i am a bad dad for that the well i don't care what you think.I have never had the intention of shooting a buck in a light. It isn;t worth it.What kind of story is that?"And this one here i got in a spot light.Yep.jacked it.It's my prize buck here".Hahaha.Nah.not me. I only really take the kids cause they like to see the deer. And lets face it.we all like to look at deer.Even if we cant't hunt them or not. It's just fun to do.It's kinda like driving around to check out the christmas lights.Don't mean i am going to steal your santa clause you got out front just cause im driving by slow.LOL>

15,25,35,45. thats just paces.not actual measurments.i belive it is more of a guage on distance by sight.I dont use a rangefinder. And when i practice i am constantly moving my target and shooting angles to try to get my distance judgement correct with the pin.

had one stollen. It was one of those 35mm film ones.I was more angry than upset.Just the thought of someone helping their selves to something on my property makes me angry.I would of never even cared if i saw the pic of them passing by.It wasn't posted at the time.I made a lock box for my new digital one this year.already got a pic of a person.LOL.he didnt even notice the camera or just didnt care.It was on my buddies property i have permission to hunt. I dont lock on my hang on stands but lock up my climber if i leave it over night.

chemical suit (N.B.C or jslist overgarment) of ebay.25.00 pluss shipping.I have 2.Had many deer walk right downwind from me and never bust me.I am working on one now that is asat camo.I will be posting a diy thread when i get done.I also make my own scent killer.there is 1000 threads on it all over the internent.then i cover up with some homemade cover scent.Boiled acorns and such and might even throw some vanilla in there too. there is so much hype on all the "store bought"stuff and when you think about it,none if it is even prooved effective to the point of deffinate science. We all know it helps but they can still bust you if the wind is just right. Eliminating as much as possible is our gaol.No matter how you go about it.DIY or spending a load of money.I have 6 kids.1 hunts and next year my next hunter will be 12.i have to keep them interested by seeing deer so i have to get creative with the techniques of not getting busted such as scent killers and home made open pattern camo.So that i can still pay for cable for the rest of the house. The first thing they learn is how to hunt the wind and read a compass. I also wear just my base layer to my stand and pack in my warm clothes.I spry with the homade scent killer then dress up at stand in my carbon suit.when ground hunting i hunt the wind and move extreemly slow to keep from sweating.

something for you anti X-bow guy's..
arrow nocker replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
silly if you ask me.Looks uncornfortable and unstable. No stock to steady it and without the bow weight against both arms i bet it is less accurate than a regular bow.JMHO -
call the cops? :-[ LOL.i woulda got that on vidieo and put it on you tube dude...HAAAAHAAAA.
