  1. Halloween morning sit, saw 1 doe on the way to the stand at about 5:30. I had the headlamp on red mode and she didn’t seem too spooked. She bounced off without blowing. Then I proceeded to sit in the rain for 4 hours only to see one coyote. I took a shot but it was through some limbs and the arrow ended up deflecting down hitting the ground about a foot in front of it. The rest of the morning was a bust. It looks like Wednesday I’ll be able to get out. But I’m flying solo with our kids this weekend so no hunting. Can’t wait for the lower temps in the forecast!

  2. I was in the tree from 6:30-11:00 this morning. Saw 2 spikes. But also saw 4 scrapes and a dink run that were not there last weekend. Probably just the spikes/forkies that I have on trail cam. But it’s still to see things starting to get better. Plan on going out Sunday night on a neighbors property. I’ve never hunter there and have no cameras so it’s kind of a shot in the dark but I’m looking forward to it. Good luck out there this weekend!

  3. First time in the stand this year. Saw a doe around 5:30 about 80 yards away through the trees. Wind swirled all evening. As I gathered my stuff at the bottom of the tree after getting down I heard at least 6-7 different coyotes sound off. I’ve never seriously tried to call / kill them, but there’s a first time for everything. I know there’s a balance to the herd, but that sounded excessive. Hopefully it’s not a sign of how the season is going to go. 0b3f412b0c4df96229f30f11515f7782.jpg

Its gone! He said it was awesome. Sorry

Ironically one of the neighbors I bugged to help me move stuff this weekend said he couldn’t because he would be ‘in the whitetail woods’. Say what!!?? I got a lead on a local shop today. Going to to get the peep and rest fixed tomorrow. (Barefoot archery in Charlotte). However I’m keeping expectations low because my neighbor said the bow tech revitalized his ‘30 year old bow’. Now I’m questioning how knowledgeable this guy is given that he’s using a bow that old. I didn’t get the warm and fuzzy feeling from the guy that answered the phone at the shop either. Tomorrow will tell the story. Fingers crossed.

I have no archery friends around here and the couple of folks at the gun range I asked weren’t into archery. If you have a recommendation I would gladly take it! It could mean an extra week of practice if I can get my bow worked on here before the move. We’re located in Charlotte currently.

I’ve had good experiences at S&S. Already got permission to buy a bow next year so I might also try to get some intel on release dates for next year’s line up.

  7. After living my entire life in western NY, I’ve spent the last 2 years in NC for work. Moving back to western NY at the end of September. My peep is twisted and I need a new rest. I don’t trust the shops here so I’ll be going back to my normal shop but I can’t make it there until first week of October. That means I’ll be sighting in first week of October. Not ideal. I’ve been blind bale shooting to keep loose, but I still have some work to do. I don’t plan on hunting until late October, so I have time but not much.

  8. We usually spend the week after thanksgiving in West Virginia at my friends’ hunt camp. The cabin only sits on about 5 acres but across the street is a 5,000 acre tract that is owned by the DNR and open to the public for hunting. I’ve only been going on the trip since 2019 and I’ve only shot 1 doe so far. But there are some big deer in them hollers. Also it’s a fun experience because the land is crossed with old logging roads that are accessible in a 4x4 truck. Although that means there is more hunting pressure it allows us to get into places that would otherwise not be accessible.

  9. Long time hunter, first time gardener. I’m doing some research to make a plan for the spring. We want a vegetable garden to feed our family of four. The kids are young (3 yo and 1yo) but they enjoy fruits and veggies just as much as we do. To be clear, I’ve never done a garden. We have plenty of space; our house sits on 12 acres. As far as equipment, I have a compact tractor (JD 2025r) but no attachments relevant to gardening. I started reading some threads about the topic and y’all have some awesome pictures of the end products, but I need a ‘how to guide’ to get started. For example, what are the best plants for our zone, where to buy seeds, how to take care of seedlings indoors, when to plant seedlings outside, how to prep soil outside, how plant seedlings, etc etc. I have so many questions, and I think the best thing to do is read a few guides or books about it. Any recommendations you have would be greatly appreciated. We live in Erie county. Thanks in advance!

  10.

While drinking my coffee and catching up on emails for work I saw quite the show in the backyard. First it was 1 doe that fed through around 5:30am. Then about 20 mins later I saw a hen and 4 poults. I have never seen poults in person before. Very cool. And then if that wasn’t enough about 30 mins later I saw a spike and an 8 pointer feed through the back yard.

  11. Hunting behind the house this morning (9h). 2 spikes walked past me around 9:00 then at 9:45 this guy walked out. Personal best with the bow! Quartering away shot, got liver and one lung. Wasn’t a pass through so blood trail turned into a grid search. He ran about 300 yards but I was able to see him for most of it because it was a crp field. Very thankful the neighbor didn’t mind me looking around on his property. IMG_1912.jpg
