  1. I have been fortunate along those lines. I received my very gun of my own when i passed 8th grade English (was always a rough subject for me in school for some reason). it was a browning bps 12ga that i used to kill MANY MANY rabbits with throughout the years and cherish that one as well as the 870 deer gun that was a high school graduation present from him as well. other than that. i had to buy all the others that i own up until this past x-mas. maybe he's getting soft in his old age!!! either that or he knows i wont spend that kind of money on a rifle and is sick of me borrowing one of his to deer hunt with..who knows. But i do have to agree about being in the woods together. Not that we have a bad relationship but the time spent at the cabin, in the woods and shooting, the relationship i s always better. seems like when we are doing that i am "just one of the guys" type deal instead the father son relationship and that makesits a lot more enjoyable experience. although last weekend when we were walking out of the cabin, the neighbors dog got out of their house and was up on our property and when we came out the dog came out from behind the wood pile and scared the living (insert swear word of choice here) out of us both and he immediately did the arm in front of me and push me back thing that all parents do when put into a potential ugly situation. all of you parents out there know what i am talking about. either way, it was cool that he still did that to his little boy thats 37 now. and the dog is damn lucky neither one of was turkey hunting and had a shotgun in our hands. lol
  2. Sp me and the misses took a drive to my parents house yesterday so she could wash our comforter...over sized queen sized comforter and a small washer. they have the new style front loader that holds a small car in it. ANYWAYS.......while she was doing that load of wash, i was going to go to the shooting club with Dad to sight in the 8x57 Mauser he gave me for X-mas last year. We are downstairs getting some stuff together and he gos into his safe and says....."look at this old Mossberg .308win i icked up at the show 2 weeks ago" thats REAL nice considering you practically stole it from the guy. Yeah i did, you want it? WHAT!?!?!?! did you just say? you heard me, do you want a .308? um...yeah sure long story short, went to do laundry and shoot my rifle and come home with a clean blanket for the bed and an extra rifle. not a bad day i would say. BTW....i have never shot a gun better. once it was sighted in, i was shooting that damn .308 in 3/4" 5 shot groups at 100yrds. LOVE THIS GUN!!!!
  3. Welcome back home and good luck
  4. Welcome home and thank you for protecting our freedoms that allow us to be here on this site as well as do the things we love the most. dont know you, but glad to hearthat you are home safe. enjoy the season this year
  5. Congrats, something he will remember forever
  6. IMO....as a hunter but more so as a 16yr veteran of EMS, yes this deer by all medical accounts should die. that is of course if you hit what you think you hit. It may take a bit longer than normal but if the deer has a hole in its lung and the diaphragm is punctured, it will die. again, just my opinion
  7. Was out for a while but had to come back in. Apparently my leg injury/surgery from June does NOT like the dampness. Also don't forget that turkeys are fair game now as well. Good luck to everyone who's out in the stands. Hoping to be able to try it again this afternoon if I can get the swelling to go away
  8. Depending on where you are located, not sure where exactly evan mills is, there are a number of there here in the wny area. there is wyoming county whitetail outside of arcade (which i use and have had great results with in the oast) then there is northern whitetail scents and there is another one that actually has a STORE on main st in clarence. and for those of you in the WNY area, you know what that means since they tend to be a little more upity in that area. i also believe that if you yahoo search northern whitetail scents, you can mail order from themas well
  9. I agree with WNY completely as well. But if u are looking for personal opinions......u will see that everybody here will have one as they well should being that no 2 people are alike. But on the same note, I have shit PSE (2), Browning, and now am shooting a new Alpine. Personally I am disappointed in the Alpine and should have stuck to PSE. It is also going to depend on budzget as well. If u only want to buy one and have it be a high $$ one, I would go with Elite over Matthews. Mainly Because they are local (Henrietta outside Rochester) and from what I have heard, customer service is unprecedented along with the warranty. Just my 2cents And BTW, I am also in WNY and can give u some advice on who not to go to but will only do that in a pm as I don't want to put anyone down here in the open. Just had a bad experience with the one I am talking about. Good luck stay safe
  10. So if u wanna go that route g man......I live in Lancaster and would be MORE than willing to stick as many does as u want....LOL

  13. when its Wednesday night and you cant sleep all night because your too busy thinking about what clothes you are going to wear and in what layer on Saturday morning because its going to be cold out in the morning but going to get nice during the day so you don't wanna dress to warm because then your going to be hot. but at the same time you don't wanna dress to lightly because then you are going to be cold........
  14. i was 20 and it was the second year that we hunted the first piece of property that we bought outside of corning. i had been hunting for a few years and had only taken a 4pt (1st deer) and a couple of does to that point. I was up in my cousins tree stand, he didn't feel like getting out of bed, and all of a sudden i see this "moose" coming through the woods. i know we have all heard and probably even used the expression, "i looked up and all i saw was rack", well let me tell you that this was the definition of the phrase. there he was, standing broadside at 75-80yrds. pull the shotgun up,put the cross hairs on him, squeeze the trigger. what must have simultaneously as the gun goes off he takes a step and i see his body ripple and shake as the slug hits him. my father and long time hunting friend of the family come over to see what was going on (before we al had radio's) and i told them what had happened. they asked where he was and started looking for hair and blood. my father couldn't find any and chalked it up to a miss when our friend says that he has blood on the ground. we tracked him for about another 100yrds or so with good blood then nothing. we looked until last light and then started again in the morning to no avail. i end up going home with only a doe that year. my father ended staying a few more days and called me when he got home to tell me the disappointing news. the guy on the neighboring land shot a 13 pt with a 23" spread that dressed out at 235lbs. the neighbor said the only funny thing was is that he had never seen the deer before and he shows up on his land and has a hole in his (what i would call) his abdomen. the shot, MY SHOT, hit the deer behind his ribs, below his spine, and never touched a single organ. wasnt a happy camper that year and still think about it and remember what NOT to do when shooting at a deer all the time. lesson learned i guess
  15. So the wife comes home from school this afternoon and opens the fridge. she then turns around, gives me that "are you for real?" look and says....... "You know you live with someone who hunts when you open your refrigerator and the first thing you see is a bottle of "DOE URINE".... I thought it was quite humorous so i turned around looked her square in the face and said, "better here then in the bedroom right?" needless to say she didn't find that as amusing as i did. so with that, i figured we could all have some fun with this. lets see what everyone else has to say about "You know you're a hunter when......." and yes, i am bored as can be. and today, tomorrow and the drive to the land are going to be the longest of my life it feels like. this weekend will be the first time out this year so i figured why not kill some time and have some fun while we are at it
