I've taken a few head shots. I use a rifle and scope and were about 50 and 75 yards away. I wouldn't think twice about taken a head shot. The Texas shot" I'd think a dozen or more times as its walking away because I wouldn't feel comfortable taken the shot but if the next guy does go for it.

those are awesome!!! I'm saving up for the d3100. I've been really wanting to get into outdoor photography for a long time and after seeing your pics I'm sold.

I'd take the shot if it didn't make such a mess. Sounds like it kills them quicker then a double lung shot. Sounds to me ethics has nothing to do with why some wouldn't take the shot just that it's a pain to field dress. If anything it would be more ethical to take the the shot and have the deer dead in seconds but have to deal with the mess.

I want to agree with that but I also like hiking and camping etc. etc. so if I had to buy a permit for every recreational activity I'd be more broke then I am now.

Maybe I could see imposing a ban on sunday for state run parks and that's it. You know give a little get a little. Dont miss interpet that as I think there should be any kind of sunday ban. But if that would help open up hunting on sunday in PA i'm sure a lot of hunters would go for that.

out my way they have what they call an extreme bow shoot. Moving targets, into water shots, threw barrels etc.. anyways they had an open field where you had to put down the compound and use a recurve and shoot foam disks out of the air. It was pretty cool.

it's not the size of the camp it's how you use it right? lol

,223 rounds are pretty cheap as far as ammo goes and they're a lot of fun to shoot. Ar's don't kick at all either.

Zoar Valley Multiple use areas outside of Gowanda are nice and you can take your dog. But it's open to hunting so once season starts you might want to steer clear.

awesome pic and video. i've heard a lot of good things on the bushnell cams. Is 10 seconds the longest video it takes though?

my opinion is that with anything "bone collector series" all your paying for is the name and usually some cool camo design. just my thoughts

I have the same problem. I've resorted to the worse solution and take it off after I've gotten settled in. Wish there was something else out there.

Last year during bow season I seen a monster. The body looked like the frame of a horse and easily a 10 point. I could barely stand in my tree stand my legs were so shacky. He came within 20 yards but I had thorn trees between us and he wouldn't come past them or to the right. He started to walk away and I gave a quick grunt I didn't think he turned around but when I moved my head to see around a tree he spotted me and took off. The next day my dad told me a monster buck got hit by a truck right there and I was heart broken. Until about a week later when the land owner told me he saw the same buck. At then end of the season another guy was coyote hunting and saw him again. So this year it's my goal to find him again.

Fishing - How many of you fish? Want to see more fishing forums?
RobC replied to burmjohn's topic in General Chit Chat
Mostly stream fishing. Cattauraugus creek for trout, bass, catfish and carp, and Conewango Creek (dredge) for pike, muskey and large mouth. A really nice fishing forum is Sanders Fishing Guides http://forums.sandersoutdoors.com/default.aspx. It's a lot like this site only for fishing. Lots of smart guys and really helpful. Word of advice though DO NOT POST SPECIFIC FISHING LOCATIONS. Lol you'll get scolded for sure. -
I see that 4th pic of daves all the time when I'm trying to still hunt. lol good stuff guys thinking about checking mine tomorrow.

I've had mine out for two weeks now. The first time I set it up and could only go 3 days before the anxiety got to me and I HAD to check it. Only had two does on it. This time it's been over a week and the anxiety has peaked I'm going to check it tomorrow. Hoping to get a preview of my wall mount for this year on it. This is the first year I've tried using a cam I've got an ancient moultrie but I'm thinking an upgrade is in order. I don't think it's taking pictures at night and only working half the time.

I seen a craigslist right above a very nice advertisement for the site here. Nice job to whoever that was. Anyways back to the topic. On craigslist a guy was selling a hickory creek draw loc for a compound bow. Anyone see or use one? I'm just wondering if this product would put to bed the need for a crossbow tfor disabled or older folks who can't draw back a bow should be able to use a crossbow. Never heard of this product. Any thoughts or opinions?

Has hunting negatively affected your life at all?
RobC replied to Caveman's topic in General Hunting
My girl gets very jealous over hunting and a little annoyed that its my main object of conversation. I thought she was going to slap me when I asked her if we could register at Cabelas and Gander Mountain for the wedding next year. She calls hunting my mistress lol. I'm pretty sure I've sent my son down the same road. Christmas consist of guns camo and fishing poles. -
I went to update my notification settings and I see there is an option for a mobile app? Wondering what apps are available for the site.

My bad I should of read a little careful I saw deer but skipped over bear etc. I found this article and although it doesn't really answer your question about the marlin 444, or 450 it might give you some ideas on other options. To quote straight from Chuck Hawks article on cartridges for Black Bear hunting... "Black bear have strong bones and heavy muscles, as befits a large predator. They require expanding bullets that will not come apart against substantial resistance..." "It is would be hard to find more useful black bear cartridges than the .308 Win. or .30-06 loaded with 180 grain bullets, even for trophy size bears." And finally, in the section regarding guns for use specifically on trophy bear hunts... "Good calibers for large black bear in the 350-600 pound class, in addition to the previously mentioned .308 and .30-06, include the .338 Marlin Express, .338 Federal, .338-06, .348 Winchester, .356 Winchester, .358 Winchester, .35 Whelen, .350 Rem. Mag., 9.3x62, .444 Marlin and .45-70. These cartridges, used within their individual range limitations and with proper loads, are excellent calibers to consider when planning a trophy black bear hunt. Cartridges more powerful than these are unnecessary for even the largest black bears." Notice that he omits the magnum calibers (mostly because he does not believe in high recoiling rifles, where you are used to hunting with a slug gun a high recoil rifle may not bother you as much as it does him). Personally, I believe that the 308 or 30-06 should be just fine for black bear. Good luck. Source(s): http://www.chuckhawks.com/black_bear_car…
