  1. Do yourself a favor and listen to the Wired To Hunt podcast w Mark Drury. He nailed it. The rut take place the same time every year BUT the moons influence (like visibility) makes it seem better or worse. Sadly he said this yr is as bad as it gets for frantic daytime chasing for the typical Election Day chase period

I listended to that pod cast but didn't remember anything that he said about this year. He talked mainly about High and low pressure systems.

  2. I have much respect for Charlie A. as a photographer, outdoorsman and writer. As far as his rut predictions go, I have found them to be hit or miss. Much more reliable, is tha calendar dates of November first to the fourteenth as the best two weeks to be in the deer woods for the rut. You can expect anything to happen at anytime, during those two weeks year in and year out.

I couldn't agree more than this statement. No way will I waste vacation time on like the 27th of October or earlier. Pretty much Nov 1st through the 14th you can't go wrong

  3. No not yet! We have a farm that borders the saftey zone down near the park police and the pool area! The little guys are out in force drivin the ladies nuts. Oh and most fawns that i saw were alone or with another. Never seen a doe, fawn combo come through.

Man I shot 2 doe down there, I saw your truck that weekend of 1/2. Should have stopped and said hello but you were still out.... How'd you do in archery there?

  4. Here is my take on tuning a bow. Yes. You can set up a bow to shoot decent groups out to 40 yrds. by setting center shot and squaring everything up. Myself. I want to squeeze every little bit of performance I can out of my bow. Here is how I tune mine and every other person that brings their rig to me for a tune. I first inspect strings and cables to ensure they are in good shape.( I always use a good set of custom strings and not the factory strings myself). Then the bow goes on the draw board and I time/sync the cams and get the DL. correct. I don't worry about ATA and Brace. Those numbers aren't set in stone numbers. Next. I find the center shot and set the rest and go right into bare shaft paper tuning ( I don't even bother with a fletched shaft). I will do this out to 30yrds. I adjust my paper tear by yoke tuning (if bow has one. The reason I don't care for Elites). Once I get bare shaft shooting bullet holes out to 30 yrds. I go to broadheads. I've yet to have to make any adjustments with fixed or mechanicals with any bow that I've bare shaft tuned at 30 yrds. After all of the tuning is done. I will send some arrows thru the chronograph to see if it's making or close to ibo. More for fun than anything else (They are all fast!). Confidence in your set up goes a long way when you have that opportunity of a lifetime. I'm not trying to hit a pie plate at 40Yrds. I'm trying to split hairs at 40 yrds. I'm not claiming to be the best tuner in the world, but I'm pretty good at it and love doing it. If anyone needs help. Feel free to send me a p.m. and I'll do what I can to get you going in the right direction.

Nice, but a question on cam sync , if they cams are timed but not syncd, you twist a cable but doesn't that throw of the timing?

  5. I've paper tuned bows easily when they have dual yolks like on the bowtech.

Mathews monster series has yolks but you can twist them to take out left or right tears.. I have my mr5 paper tuned just by playing with the rest and my chillr has a one inch tear no matter what I do,,, I shoot out to 40 yards with booth bows and they both group the same

  6. heres a rrecap of our week at the cabins... Tuesday morning my buddy shot a 150 inch giant. high shoulder shot, we never found him unfortuantely. he was sick, literally. The next day I missed about a 120 8. he was chasing and i rushed my shot. Saturday morning another buddy hit a giant 12 pointer. We tracked for 2 miles in and out of private property with the park police helping us, never found him. We saw over 20 different bucks and took two does. heartbreaking week with he three missed bucks. we will be back the 11th-18th

Sound like an exciting week although what a shame on the deer not found. Ill. Be there again Friday then Monday or Tuesday. Gotta get it done cause my season will be over then. That park drives me nuts,, although I really haven't had the time to put into more scouting

Then ill look forward to our 3d winter league in January

  7. 2 guys..8 different bucks seen.In 2 days! 6 yearlings and 2 nice mature bucks with messed up racks. The young boys are chasin heavy down here now. I believe the bigger bucks will still be a week or so away from joining the fun. Good luck. Not sure where you hunt but we were on the West side. Down the hill!

I was by trail 18 today. I saw 2 bucks and a couple doe. They bucks were just sniffing but not chasing anything..

  8. That sucks.... Ill be hunting at the park Sunday and then next weekend. I drove through the c cabin area today on my way to hornel for work.. I saw someone got a nice 6 or 8 hanging..... Nice deer
