  1. I downloaded the list and was able to look up myself, coworkers, shooting and hunting buddies. Although this is public record, the compliation and posting to the web is done specifically to create victims out of legal, respectible, license holders and pistol owners. The motive is evil, and completely unrespectible.

  2. here it is..

Midway has these on sale.. they are big scopes (long), and can be kinda heavy, but i think these are well worth the price. I have never seen the mil dot (although I want one). the regular reticle is fantastic on my winchester 43 chambered for .218 bee (my go to rifle for scouting and varmit shooting).

  3. OK.. Now that the McDonald case is settled, it is time for us handgun owners to figure out what it means for NY. The fact that there is a geographic difference in licensing requirments, process and enforcment is counter to the concept of the 2nd amendment being incorporated into the states. Unfortunately, the way it is today WILL NOT change until it is challenged in a court of law. Todays process is arbitrary and caprecious, which is speficially outlawed (even by our penal code here in NYS). I advise everyone with a restricted carry permit to review section 400 of the NYS penal code and find all the areas of conflict. Only we can change it. To think that our elected officials will allow the right that the supreme court just incorporated is silly. They need to be forced. Just look at what Mayor Daly did since the McDonald decision.

  4. I reload just about everything I shoot, for all the reasons stated above. I reload, .218bee (which I love, and factory ammo is unafordable). .308, 7.62x39, 9mm, .357/38.. as well as 12 and 20 gauge for both hunting and skeet/sporting clays.

    Good book, Hornady reloading manual..

    good powder: varget, AA1680

    Good bullets: hornady vmax/amax/sst

    Good Press: Lee classic turret

  5. I am a smoker.. And for years I would smoke while deer hunting. I never really had much issue when I was in a stand, say 20 feet up. At that height, the deer don't seem to pick up on the smell.. hell I had to put my smoke out before I took my second buck. When still hunting, no way, that nose is far too good to tolerate cigarette smoke.

Now, birds.. a whole different story. I shot a multitude of small game while smoking.. So its all about what your going after, that determines your behaviour.

  6. Hunting leases are a double edged sword for the landowners in NY. They are protected from liability suits as long as NO money changes hands. As soon as they take money the risk goes way way up. One strategy that I have employed successfully is to use the liability/permission slips provided by the DEC as a way of fostering an instant trust with a landowner that I am approching. I explain the liability issue and fill out all my contact information, offer to chare my take, and offer to help with projects that they may have coming up as a form of payment. The blue permission slips really are a great tool. And anyone who is willing to fill one out really demonstrates to the landowner that they are responsible and trustworthy.

  7. Leupold bought the redfield company, and released what is basically a leupold quality optic for $140.. If you like leupold, you should take a hard look at the new red field scopes. I personally do not own one, but thats is because I am out of guns to put optics on right now. But when i scrape the cash together for the .25-06 that I want, ill be topping her off with a redfield.

  8. The weapon I used depends on the hunt that i am going on.

For long range deer, I use my savage model 10 in .308

for drives, I use my mini-30

for southern tier I use my 20 g 870 express with a rifled barrel shooting saboted slugs

I always carry my model 19 in .357 *especially when duck and deer seasons are open at the same time!

for wood chucks I shoot a vintage winchester in .218 Bee

for ducks as geese, either an 870 mag, or my charles daly automatic (12 g)

    and on and on.

  9. Woodchucks are an 'unprotected' species in NY. This is a quote from the DECs web site:

In New York State, nearly all species of wildlife are protected. Most species, including endangered species, songbirds, hawks and owls are fully protected and may not be taken. The few unprotected species include porcupine, red squirrel, woodchuck, English sparrow, starling, rock pigeon, and monk parakeet. Unprotected species may be taken at any time without limit. A hunting license is required to hunt unprotected wildlife with a bow or firearm.

This allows us real hardcore guys to have an excuse to hunt any time of the year. And yes woodchuck, when prepared properly, can be very tasty.

  10. I started a duplicate topic                    I would love to talk more about this, perhaps a moderator can join these two threads.
