Found this a little funny since this is one of the quietest seasons of my hunting career and no one is really seeing anything. The group I hunt with usually everyone gets a DMP every year and sometime even a bonus DMP sent to them during the season. This year only half of our group was awarded a DMP. We all use them but unfortunately not all of us got them this year. Just found this amusing and thought I would share. http://www.outdoornews.com/November-2015/NYs-growing-deer-problem/

I didn't know that about the regular season buck tag during ML season. That's good to know.

currently Hodgdon triple seven 50 grain pellets.....I heard blackhorn 209 burns a lot cleaner so I am going to switch to that after the season.

Tried bore butter the first few times then realized it was a problem. Haven't used it in over a year and am still getting fouling. I run a pre oiled cva patch down when I am done cleaning, but still getting fouling. I know my problem is I'm not getting the barrel completely clean, but I can't spend two hours cleaning a gun. should I be running soapy water down the barrel and then brushing the hell out of it? I feel like the cleaners should do the same thing as the water but it doesn't seem the get all the powder residue out.

Hello All, I have a TC Triumph. I love the gun but the issue I am having is I clean it like a mad man every time I take it out hunting/target shooting and even when I think its clean, I put it away for storage and when I take it out of the safe a few months later and look down the barrel, I see fouling building up. I am not worried my barrel is starting to get pitted or will be if I can't clean this thing properly. I first tried all of the TC cleaners which I though sucked, then tried the CVA cleaning package. The CVA cleaner is definitely better but I feel like it is impossible to get this thing completely clean. I brush it, spray the foam cleaner down and let it sit and then I must run over 20 patches through the barrel. I feel like I'm doing something wrong as when you see them clean these things in the video's they run 5 patches down and its clean as a whistle (yes I know they intentionally make it look easy for marketing purposes) but still I don't think I need to soak the fun in a soapy water bath each time I shoot to get it clean. Plus I have a scope on the gun so I am not sure how I could even do that. Any advice is appreciated and is the fouling build up normal? No one ever really taught be about black powder so I am learning as I go. Thanks for any input. BK

Hello All, Interested in reading about Teddy Roosevelt and his hunting along with how he established the national parks and protected land we hunt. Does anyone have any good recommendations? BK

American Buffalo was good as well

Shooting 100 grains out of the TC triumph.......Going to switch to BH209 after the season as it came highly recommended by some members on this forum, but don't want to play with the setup now as I am all dialed in before the season.

Nice morning.... The cut the bean field over night hopefully that leads to more activity....time to fill the freezer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
If you interested in trying another brand, I have been using the Grim Reapers for years and like them a lot. Although I have been thinking of getting away from mechanicals all together as with anything mechanical there is more room for failure then a fixed head.

Bubba did you mean it cost you $210 shipped to your door?

4y seeing most of the movement in the later afternoon. So far have not seen any sign. No scrapes or rubs. Really have only seen does. The corn is still standing so their hiding places or limitless at this point.

Has anyone ever duck hunted Stewart State Forest? I was looking on the DEC web site and it listed Stewart State as a public land waterfowl area. Just curious if anyone has hunted it, and if so how it was and they can recommend any good spots. Thanks! BK

Where have all the grouse gone??
BKhunter replied to Jaeger's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
I have only seen one grouse in the 11 years hunting our property......I wish we had more game birds -
I usually shoot a doe as I believe in #2. The question to add on that is would you shoot a doe this time of year with fawns still trailing. I believe they are done nursing now but still a tough spot.

This year is tough.....The corn and bean fields are still up by me (200-300 acres) and there are acorns everywhere. Tough to locate deer as they have a ton of places to hide and don't have to move far for food. Once they cut the AG fields things should get a little easier. Benefit though is they have a lot of food to fatten up this year and hopefully they heard can rebound pretty good from the past two tough winters.

If they did enact a season the way they should run the lottery is start with the oldest tenured license holders getting priority and then have everyone below them start building preference points in different tiers. This way all hunters old and new would have an equal chance at this hunt at some point in their lifetime.......But that would make to much sense.

Maybe see if you can borrow a climber from someone? You can back pack it in and out same day pretty easily. Not much to it on terms of set up. I would just recommend if you can locate someone willing to let you borrow one spend some time practicing going up and down a tree before you bring it out for real life hunting. Nothing worse then packing in all that gear and making a racket and working up a sweat trying to learn on the spot.

I have heard of some old past time attempts to re-introduce elk into NY, I even think there may have been a thread on this site about it at some point. I have not heard of any currently in the state, but I think the poster above has a point that some may have come over from PA. Moose I have heard of making a comeback up north and would love for them to thrive as it would be nice to hunt them in our home state.
