  1. Read my link from the post Better link to the research. Read the entire thing and remember.... if in a CWD Management area, the QDMA would support whatever appropriate management practices necessary. this is the study http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0091043 Four Seasons thinks this study is going to cause major issues for QDM management practices... lol In a CWD MANAGEMENT AREA, the focus is not QDM but management for CWD.
  2. You post quotes from other forums, I post the research. Below is the quoted info from the study. Why do you think the study is against QMDA practices? The QDMA suggest harvest goals for quality and health. Why I don't speak for the QDMA, I am sure if Buck Harvests of all age classes is needed in a CWD MANAGEMENT AREA they would support this measure. Your arguement is so weak, everyone can see past your nonsense. You are doing more harm to your creditabilty and to the support of deer farms... but keep slinging nonsense and digging your hole deeper. "Given our model structure and data, our results provide strong support for FD transmission of CWD with the force of infection driven by changes in prevalence, which we suggest is a vital metric for focused control efforts. Generally as prevalence increases, as found in Wisconsin, infection rate also increases in the absence of intervention, producing an accelerating pattern of infection. Assuming that frequency-dependent transmission predominates (as our evaluation indicates), management to reduce prevalence will mediate potential CWD population impacts. The higher rate of infection and prevalence in males, thus, provides the basis for effective CWD management using deer harvest focused on this sex. Management to reduce prevalence might be accomplished through the synergistic effects of targeted harvest and vaccination of males. Unfortunately, we know little about the mechanisms for male infection and further research is needed before alternative management strategies to reduce male infection rates can be developed. Spatial differences in CWD infection rates, despite similar habitat and pre-CWD deer abundance, suggest that unidentified environmental or management factors may also influence disease dynamics and future trends in prevalence. Future research to understand the drivers of CWD transmission, how these vary spatially, and the relative importance of environmental and direct transmission is critical to understanding future CWD dynamics in wild deer. Our results also indicate that even with high deer densities CWD has been spreading at a relatively slow rate across the landscape; in agreement with larger scale spatial patterns for prevalence [44]. However, as disease prevalence continues to increase, the rate of infection in yearling bucks will also increase [46]. Because dispersing bucks may be an important source of disease spread, these patterns suggest that CWD prevalence outside the core area will continue to grow and the disease may spread at an increasing rate. Although the drivers of CWD spatial spread are not generally known (see [44] for identification of landscape features that affect spread), management efforts to reduce both local prevalence and deer abundance will likely reduce dispersal of infected yearling bucks. However, the relative impact of reducing deer abundance versus prevalence in lowering the number of infected yearling bucks likely depends on disease prevalence and deer density [46]. Further research is needed to determine the factors that affect spatial spread and develop effective management strategies."
  3. Here is a better link to the recent study http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0091043

  5. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/33220.html "First case of CWD in New York: In early April, the first case of CWD was confirmed in five white-tailed deer from two captive breeding facilities in Oneida County." http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7191.html
  6. I am not ducking any questions.... you are. Go back read this entire thread. You have been asked simple questions. You wont or cant answer. Just because a QDMA member says something, big deal. National QDMA has not changed it stance on Deer Farms. I am happy you are on the Board of NY Deer Farms... but your stance, your argument, and the way you are going about this thread is doing nothing to help the cause of Deer Farms.
  7. Below is a recent news investigation. It is interesting http://www.indystar.com/longform/news/investigations/2014/03/27/buck-fever-intro/6865031/
  8. Mike I don't understand why you keep pulling quotes from another forum. Like its the gospel or something. You continue to attack the QDMA, yet in another post you say you don't hate them, and practice the philosophy. People have asked you straight and honest questions, you choose not to answer them and then go onto tangents that are not related to this thread or the topic being discussed. NO one here started to bash your trade until you got in here trying to stir the pot with your ridiculous posts. It makes no sense. I will say it is a good thing you are not the official spokesperson for NY Deer Farms and man oh man please do us all a favor keep to the subject in the OP original subject matter and please don't forget to take your meds.
  9. Happy Birthday again dude and Thanks Again for the help.
  10. I would agree with Phade, improving the habitat (more than just plots), passing 1.5 year old, 2.5 year olds, is the first step. Hunting sets that produce, and hunting low impact are key. Keeping goals realistic is huge, and if you have a expectation of planting a food plot or 2 and harvesting a mature buck year after year... guess again. The organization has made a concerted effort to educate more on hunting tactics. Giving them what they need, passing on bucks, is the easy part. It helps if your neighbor is on board to, but these are only first steps.
  11. dbhunterNY hats off to you my friend for getting involved and trying to get neighbors on board in trying to get more bucks past 1.5 years of age. Thanks for the post about the meeting and the update. If you need any help or info just reach out.
  12. Larry and I bet those are wild deer, fair chase! Nice bucks! Mike
  13. And Four Seasons your argument that it is QDMA VS Captive Deer Farms and how there is fear or competition is probably the silliest thing I have ever heard. Apple and Oranges..... Ask any hunter if they would rather hunt a wild 100% free animal vs Captive animal and we all know the majority is wild. Sure you have clients, there is a market, there is one for herion too. Doesn't make it right.
  14. This pretty much sums it up what the QDMA is about. Instead of wasting everyone's time slamming the QDMA about what it is doing, why not educate us on what you and the captive deer industry is doing for the wild deer herd and hunters who love them?
  15. Again .... I never said and either has the QDMA (to my knowledge) said their statement against deer farms was going cause the industry to collapse. They see deer farming, in more particular the transport of deer across state borders as a threat to the wild deer herd.... they never said they were against high fenced hunts as long as legal and ethical. I was at the National QDMA Convention in 2013 as well as others on the forums... I think they had one preserve hunt if I remember correctly. The QDMA is trying to what is right for the protection of the deer herd, plain and simple. Have they made mistakes, yes will they make more, yes. Are they right to try to protect the herd from CWD, YES Guys look here for yourself two links. You can see for yourself where QDMA Stands. http://www.qdma.com/news/captive-deer-breeding-legislation-overwhelmingly-defeated-during-2012-legis http://www.qdma.com/news/faq-qdmas-stance-on-captive-deer-breeding Name one organization that does more for the Whitetail and Whitetail hunters than the QDMA!
  16. First of all some facts Currently the QDMA is at the highest Membership total ever in its young 25 year history. Four Seasons quotes from the QDMA Website is from the Forums on the QDMA Site. Just like on here there are guys on that site that sling mud and currently are unhappy or whatever. The latest quote is from ssmith... he is a member, but anyone and everyone can go on there and post He is currently unhappy with some issues. It Doesnt represent the organizations leadership or membership at large. Maybe I should find a deer farmer forum, find a negative quote from one, post it on here as the gospel. He is not leadership, is not involved in a branch, is not a volunteer he is a member... it is useless to pull stuff from a forum. Interest in the QDMA or practicing some form of QDM is at an all time high, people realize its benefits to improve habitat and give back. Four Seasons while he says he likes QDM and doesnt hate QDMA is upset on the Stance the QDMA took on deer farms. I understand his frustration give his passion, investment, and future on his whitetail farm. I can get an exact number on memberships if you want, in NY we have over 1900 alone. Not a huge number but it is increasing. I know and speak the truth. My Name is Mike Edwards. I am the President of the Gr. Rochester S. Tier Branch and President of the QDMA NY State Advisory Council. I will speak to anyone on the phone or in person. You can PM me here, or get my full contact info from the QDMA website. I have even spoken to Four Seasons in the past on the phone.
  17. So your stance on the QDMA organization is a giant paint brush, so should I assume that our endevaors with New York Antlers is just promoting TDM and or Nothing but a fascination with big antlers? How is that good for the sport? Maybe people should take the stance that anyone who hunts and does no improvement to the land is just a consumer, take take take, both of my statements are a giant paint brush assumption, and are misleading just like your take on QDM. Anyone that thinks planing food plots is going rope in a big bucks go drink your koolaid. As others have said, it is about more than antler, the way I describe it is a steward of the land. The QDMA orgainization does a ton of good work, both nationally and locally.
  18. I have been a customer at several shops in Western NY, but prefer Avon Gun. Only downfall is they have to order most things. I have used Avon Gun Jackson Dicks Schultheis Whitetail Country Sports and have bought once at a gun show, a ruger sr22 and actually paid $20 less than any other shop I have seen that gun I did check LGS I know they stock Sig's a friend told be about them, but online it appears that don't stock the P226 MK25....
  19. Who said I was buying one at a gun show.... I think I said get one in my hand as in I want to get the feel for it before I have my gun shop order one. LGS was the other place I thought would have one.
  20. Thanks guys! I think this will be my next toy, but I want to get one in my hand..... checking around to see who may have one... planning on going to the Rochester Gun Show in a few weeks, not sure if one will be there.
  21. Looking for feedback on this gun, appreciate what other brand and model I should choose, but want specifics on the P226 MK25 Thanks

  23. Zach, Do you any 22 ammo? I really like the Ruger SR22. I also really like my S&W MP45. If you want to learn the basics and plan on doing a ton of shooting I would go with a 22. I think I picked up my ruger for $325-340.
