1. Imo  Your losing margin for error as well as a decent chance for a bear if they are around..  had a guy shot a bear 5 x with 243 100 grain and bullet never penetrated vitals from 10 to 50 yard shots..  went thru hide and 4 inches of fat and stopped at ribs.  Found every bullet when we skun it out .
I'll call BS unless pic proof is given. Cmon man

2. Hunt #16. Dark -10:00. Pine tree.

Didn't see, hear, smell, feel or taste a thing. Did see what looked like a new small scrape overnight. 7fdf7e684058a5071ba5d14f72937e5d.jpg689d00069a31986929ae6a29187cf682.jpg

Not seeing anything doesn't change the fact that this is still your year !

3. Kinda funny that good ole NY makes the kids hunt from the ground....and PA allows stands and raised box blinds. What a joke.

Kids.... more like young adults by the time they get to hit the woods in NY. PA has impressed me in more ways than 1 with some seriously different regs with such great opportunities for kids that show interest in hunting and the outdoors.

4. I don't even know where to start.

I can't thank our hosts enough. Gracious enough to allow us a bed, meals and stands to sit in, but more importantly a deer camp experiance, commrodery and the opportunity to make memories that will be heard for generations. Between my son, my father and myself there isn't a way to show the magnitude of thankfulness in words or actions.

Last year we were given the opportunity to take my 7 yr old son to PA to chase his first whitetail. It was very important to me that we all get to share deer hunting together as tomorrow is never promised and my father is having trouble getting in and out of the woods these days. I was willing to try anything to increase the odds of us all together for Kaidens first deer. Well, we did dark to darks, we moved setups and we tried bow and rifle season but weren't able to score. My son never showed an ounce of a "give up" attitude, if anything he was more motivated to get back after each trip. Well, all his patience and efforts earned him a real gift on this trip.

We arrived to camp shortly after 4pm Friday. We had already had a plan to hunt "the tower" with the rifle in search of a doe, then spend Saturday in a stand back in the timber with the xbow in search of a buck. We pulled in the driveway and were able to see a group of deer feeding directly under the tower. We grabbed our gear and headed up to the tower in the ranger, bumping the deer back into the thickets. We setup, took our first 22' PA season selfie and had 2 small doe enter the field. I had Kaiden practice getting on them in the scope of his great grandfathers 6mm rem 700. He switch between the 2, slowly moving and taking his time getting the crosshairs "right behind the shoulder". Then, she stepped out. A nice mature doe. She fed in the shade for what seemed like forever while we all stood there watching. Finally, out of nowhere whe decided to start walking with a purpose right out into the field. I saw my son having a head time stating on here as she was moving fairly fast, so I told him to get on her and tell me when. He hunkered down, got focused and gave me the word. A little MEEHHHP, she stopped, he took his time and squeezed one off. I heard the thump that I've hear many times before and knew she was dead. We watched her bound a few times and pile up in the field. The celebration that followed is something I know I will never forget. To be honest its hard to even write this without going right back to that feeling. 3 generations sharing the moment, using my grandfathers rifle, all together in the tower. Once we were able to gather ourselves we went down to put our hands on her. My son had to track it even know we saw her go down. Of course, he found first blood and led us right to her. Again, another celebration. We were able to spend some time standing over her, reliving the moment and listening to my son tell his version of story.

Again, I can't thank our hosts enough for not only allowing us the opportunity but for sharing in our excitement.

I was able to get the shot on video, and I'll try and get it uploaded to YouTube asap.

Here's some pics of Kaidens first deer, a nice mature doe with a red mohawk down her back and a cool double throat patch.

One last time, THANK YOU to our hosts. We are forever in your debt as there will be no way for us to repay you for the opportunity. Sorry for wasting a few cell cam pics especially since I have an interesting little follower out there.... you know us NY guys....cb45f34deb665eb415bf97efaed093f1.jpgcb264e301537ccbc2221e9b622af57ac.jpg234dca8de87c22b5abefb234311714eb.jpg2cb2f5da17171757904143e899ba49f2.jpg8b7286928dcfa1e622740ee231f42953.jpg086c5b75cd7b580ed7402fcc748a4124.jpg

5. Why did you come out of nowhere after posting 0
Hunting reports to cry about Chef’s being 4.5+ or 5.5+? Why can’t you congratulate the guy for chasing a buck for 3 years and killing it?

I ran a soil test in 2016 and needed a gazillion pounds of Lyme to even get started in a spot you cannot get equipment too. Gets back to the geography/soil.

We don’t have a lot of pancake flat farmlands to use tractors and ATV’s on.

6. You’re saying all of North America whitetails have the same racks? Anticosti island? Florida? Iowa? NY?

That’s the most idiotic thing I’ve ever heard. So what is the average 1.5 score? And average 2.5 score?

Are you saying Chef’s buck is 1.5 for the 4th year in a row because he’s not 115”?

Chef will most certainly get a shoulder mount and have it back in 4-6 months too. Who wouldn’t mount a 4.5-5.5 buck that he chased for 3 years?

Why hate instead of congratulate? He showed the 2020 and 2021 and 2022 pics

Aging by inches = amateur hour

I'm not saying that, the stats are. Dig around, you will see, you may also learn something about a deers antler growth.

I would also encourage you to do 2 things, plant food that promotes antler growth and shoot some does as they are the ones carrying these bad genetics you speak of.

You are so stuck on this age thing and it's obvious why.

7. It's crazy to think that 89% of the wild north American whitetails average about the same amount inches grown per year EXCEPT where some of our very own members hunt.

Seriously, consider how crazy that is !!

Even @Four Season Whitetail's will agree !!!

I guess you guys are lucky in the sense it's alot cheaper to mount a jawbone with a certificate from deerage than doing a shoulder mount.

8. So i got home from work at 130 am  was gorgeous out stars calm and spotty frost . Got to bed at 2 . Woke up 530. Perfect out   hiked back  over county line about a mile amd was in stand at 630..  at 7 there was movement behind me..its very thick and i could only see flashes of deer.  At 715 i heard an appe being crunched in front o stand  ..there it was 15 yard walking away.     Dropped it with shot at base of neck between shoulder blades..  nice simple retrieve when i walked back to get tractor and  my knife... i never take a knife.. superstitious.  Plus  i habe to get vehicle to retrieve it so i just get one then..  have 4 weeks off end of month and beginning of nov.. guess camp cook and turkey / bear hunting will be my niche...
Was that the intended shot placement ? If so I hope all those hunters you mentor haven't been instructed to take a spine shot....

9. If they were anything like the rollers we ran over it would have been nbd. We found a few Rouge 15'rs but they had 20-30 second intervals.

10. As one member privately texted, "big fish bed down during the day after a full moon since they were feeding all night!"

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Quite possible. I do believe that the overnighters fish through the night though.

11. Good For nothing full moon! amiright crappyice
I'm not sure which side the arguement lays, but every other species we chased was the opposite. The full moon had them frisky. Apparently when everything else is eating the bluefin are not. Talked to 1 boat that did a Friday to Monday trip in the canyons. Had one miss and that was it.

12. @Chef I asked every tuna boat I saw if they got into em and from plymouth Bay port to Falmoth harbor nobody got one. Maybe it's a good thing you got rescheduled. The full moon supposedly shuts down the tuna bite.

That sucks. We went out in the skiff today to check it out.... was fine. There was some big rollers but she was relatively calm. This is a view of stellwagen 694e10a6f06d0bcf5b5584ecbbba02b1.jpg
