??? re: Porting a Barrel
MuzzyLoader replied to MuzzyLoader's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Sweet Dins... thanks! -
How hard is it to port a barrel? :-[ Could a person do it themself (like with a hand drill or a drill press)... or should they have it done at a machine shop or by a gunsmith? And if it was easy enough for anyone to perform the task - what configuration of holes and/or slots would you suggest? And should the holes be drilled at a 90* angle or should they be angled (and if angled... which is better - forward or rearward)? DANG... maybe it is a tad hard ... or I'm over analyzing the entire process (it's that OCD thing again).

Safety 1st. "Not for those with a weak stomach"
MuzzyLoader replied to erussell's topic in Bow Hunting
Bowhunters need to see photos like this every once in awhile to keep safety paramount in their thoughts whenever practicing or hunting. Another safety 1st item... keep your broadheads covered if you're driving with your bow hung in a gun-rack on your rear window! I lost a friend years ago because he didn't do that (slid off the road, rolled his truck - died from arrows stuck in his back). Can you imagine being wacked in the head [brain] with a broadhead... and sitting there talking with the EMT? If everything turned out okay, he sure has a story to tell his grandchildren someday. -
You got it WNY... ya' can't kill deer from that livingroom chair!
-
Ripcord Baby... Ripcord! I've never had a problem with it and I shoot league, 3-D, basement, and backyard. Regarding the dry fire - get your bow checked at a reliable shop for hairline cracks in the limbs.

Gun laws

So... who's 'they' and where did this come from? -
Below is a link to an article about the invasion of feral hogs. It's from our local newspaper today: http://www.stargazette.com/article/20110417/NEWS01/104170350/Invasion-feral-hogs-poses-problems-N-Y-?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE

DANG... ??? I guess If antler size measures a hunter's success - I've got to torture my body annually (though nowdays mole hills seem to do that) farther than I've ever done before to be successful. I thought when I was a young lad I went into some pretty wierd places to shoot a buck... but you guys really set the bar! About 40 years ago I watched a huge buck 'ski' down a steep mountain with his front legs folded underneath him. The snow was about 6" deep that day and he went by me so fast I never got a bead on him (don't know if I really wanted to - it was just incredible to watch him). It was an incredible sight and I still think about that experience today. To me that's what makes hunting - memories, frozen in time. I applaud you guys that 'go-beyond' to get a buck - it's experiences like that that'll stay with you till the end of time!

Have fun with your family and enjoy all the fishing... I know you will. That's what's so great about the sport of fishing - you can thank our Master for the wonderful gift, and then return it so someone else can enjoy it at a later date. I use to fish the West Branch of the Delaware with my grandfather when I was a youngin'. I never really understood the significance of that until many years later.

Did he shoot that on the public land or some of the private land that surround the forest? I've seen alot of big bucks running on some of the private land that you cant hunt, or at least I cant Whoa... I was told at the bow shop (Arnot Forest Archery in VanEtten, NY) he got it in the Forest. I suppose it could have been a he said/she said 3rd-hand story account... but the guy who told us all said he 'knows' Jamie (says Jamie and his brother spend a huge amount of time scouting - all year long). DAMN - Now you got me wondering > . Hopefully we can get the Vannmiester on here and get the answer to this question straight from the horse's mouth! HEY VANN.............
