  1. As little as possible Retired from Corning Incorporated (Sullivan Park) in 2001. Worked in Operations and ran the R&D Machine Shop. I now work as an Adjunct Professor for SUNY; Empire State College (Corning Unit) mentoring students in TQM, Management, Leadership, and Labor studies.
  2. Is this the bear that the Amish guy shot? Or was it the one in Riesingville?
  3. What a year! Highs: Hunting almost daily during archery season, up 'til the last week and only seeing 2 deer during that entire time. Lows: Getting real ill real fast and needing emergency surgery during archery season. I only got out rifle hunting on the last 2 days of that season (and didn't see any deer). Then I aggrivated my surgery incision so bad I couldn't get out for late season. Oh well - next year.
  4. The effective kill-range of any bow resides in the person holding/shooting it. It ain't the bow gentlemen/ladies... it's the indian.
  5. Thank you young man for your response. I can't wait for turkey season this spring... I so hope my nephew gets to experience a tom turkey strutting 20yds in front of him! Ought to be a rush.
  6. I would like to take my nephew archery hunting for turkeys this coming spring (and I've never done it!). I have a 2-man blind, and he bought two decoys (1-hen/1-tom). He's been practicing with a diaphram call and we recently joined an archery league to hone our skills. We'll probably use spitfire broadheads - however... I have a little bit of a problem - Where do you aim on a turkey to hit the vitals? Is it true we should wait 'til one turns his back to the blind and shoot it in the 'hole'? DANG... I tried to delete this post and start a NEW THREAD. Mr. Administrator... can you help me please?
  7. A Beauty is right! Someday I'd like to hunt the Adirondacks - just for something like that.
  8. Check out some of the reviews regarding the new products on Bowhunting.com www.bowhunting.com
  9. One of the most sensible statements I've read in this thread! Amen letinmfly... amen.
  10. I guess this incident gives Jordan more fodder for the controversial essay he is writing for his English Class project (ref: Chit Chat Forum). What a tragedy! I fear our country is on the verge of implosion. Prayers for all victims involved in this devistating event.
  11. Arm... That's been my strategy for years. I carry my 'big' knife in my pack. The first time I pulled a jackknife (now I carry a fixed blade) from my pocket to eviscerate a deer, I thought my brother was gonna' laugh himself to death.
  12. WOW... that's a pretty ugly scene! So glad she and the baby are doing okay after such an ordeal. How did she get out of the Jeep, through the back window? Good luck with your back.
  13. It's a Super Panther - able to leap a camera's flash in a single bound.
  14. WHAT A PIG! Can't wait to read the story. Congratulations on the buck of a lifetime
  15. Welcome NYAZ... Looking forward to seeing your photos.
  16. A life-changing event - in the blink of an eye...
  17. You forgot to add, 'and one of the biggest smiles you'll ever see'.
  18. Ain't that the truth! :'( Somehow they just always know.
  19. My college statistics professor told us. "If you torture numbers long enough, they'll confess to anything". Remember... there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
  20. OOOOHHHHH Yeah Baby! Can you imagine what he's gonna be carrying in later years!!!! ???
  21. WOW... thanks for the info Wooly. 2 miles - whoda' thought. I'm going out this weekend with my hunting buddy (and his children) shed hunting. Oughta' be a good time.
  22. "Im sorry for your loss. If your son had locked his gun up, do you think it may have prevented him from taking his life? I sincerely apologize if the question offends you, thats not what Im trying to do." Thank you for your above comment and question WNYBuckHunter (and I'm not offended by your question). The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention states that over 90% of suicides are precipitated by a mental illness. Our son suffered from a bi-polar disorder and consequently even if his gun was locked up... he would have found another means to end his life. If a person is DETERMINED to end their life... they will find a way!
  23. Doc... You don't have to fish for perch through the ice. You can fish for 'em with oak-leaf grubs, in open water, on any one of the finger lakes.
