  1. This week has been very good in Tompkins county. Think the hens are finally leaving the Toms so they may be on the look for action....
  2. It is a total setup question. I never leave home without a decoy or two or three in the vest but often times dont use one. If you are hunting in the open I think it can help a lot to use one where as if you are huntin tight cover may not be as helpful. But when using a decoy you want to be aware that if you call too agressively that the tom may hang up as soon as he sees the decoy and expect the hen to come to him. The game is to get him interested and then play hard to get so he comes looking for her. The trick is understadning how fired up do you need to get him or act to bring him all the way in. One bird may act differently today then he did yesterday depending on pressure from other hunters, competition with other Toms and or Jakes int he area and then availability of receptive hens and the influence of weather on all of those deciding factors.....
  3. "Long ago, Hunters were the unlikely vanguards of progress. Today, we are protectors of tradition and conservation.Thankfully, we still have some wild places left. So while at times Id like to say let the hunt begin, right now Ill say, let the hunt continue." Interesting quote... In my eyes providing people the truth about this tragice situation is in fact taking a step towards protecting tradition and conservation. I am not bashing an individual his actions clearly are taking care of that.
  4. Not whining freind just stating the facts as I know them.... BTW, local DEC was not willing to pursue this issue any further than the initial survey done at the cemetary.
  5. How can you not have a beef with some one that does this ........ DEC has been provided all this information and they are not able to legally prove any wrong doing. However with that said when you heard the words come out of his mouth that do not match the story provided to the DEC what are you to believe? When you heard the stories of the other bucks being killed prior to this deer ever being killed. I know for a fact that a lot of these monster bucks go down by less than legit methods or stories behind them. And next thing you know they are posted on a website and everyone ooohs and aaaahs over them. Knowing differently I must come out and say BS. I will not remain quiet. This went down bad and I will keep preaching that until I can not any longer. Why? Becuase the way this magnificient animal was killed goes against absolutely everything I believe in. If any one on here still considers Matt Nash to be a hunter I am personally ashamed of ever calling myself a hunter.
  6. This deer was killed as an act of horn lust greed end of story. Do not try to right size this tragedy by saying it was an act of population control for the village of Cayuga height becuase even greedy sunsabitches know that to reduce the population you need to kill the does and a large number of them not the larger bucks out of the hurd. Nash has made no effort to kill any does in or arounfd Cayuga Heights, why would he, he does not even eat venison. The 3 Deer he killed prior to this monster were all bucks in and around the town of Ithaca and none of them very far from his vehicle. I would not define walking up to and killing an animal in this setting and killing it hunting. And yes it has been confirmed to have been killed in the Cemetary.
  7. The fact that the DEC has no issue with the chain of events makes the issue even bigger.
  8. You are all so quick to get off on horn porn but when there is something that you should all take a stand for as being wrong you do not want to be inconveinenced. Maybe some one out there will get the point that its not at all about what is on their head but how one chooses to chase. If the story was even remotely legit I would go away quietly, but I will be here a while ;-)
  9. Everyone should recognize this deer and the man that killed it as an tragic example of horn lust gone very wrong. Legal or not, I can not relate to anyone who would considered it ethical to walk up to this animal in a public cemetary and shoot it, like Nash did.
  10. Would you get out of you truck and walk up to this buck wearing jeans and a tee-shirt and kill this deer? That's the question you should ask yourself becuase that's what happened. Even better than that would you have been driving your truck through the Cemetary looking for this specific buck in the first place with the intention of walking up to it and killing it. Where and how it was told to the DEC was determined legit but that is in factno how it went down.
  11. Believe what you want I guess. I came on here because some one asked me to. The facts are as I had stated and there is a long list of people in this area that do in fact know these facts, including DEC officials. If you think the DB himself is gonna come on here and tell the true story and admit that he has no ethics I would question your sanity. That would be like asking a certified crazy person if they are crazy and then believing that they are not because they said so. Antler envy on the behalf of Mr Nash is the root cause of this whole predicament. As far as questioning my own character, I am and will be completely satisfied with passing on big woods scrub bucks for the rest of my life knowing that I would never walk up to a deer of this magnitude in a cemetery in street clothes and kill it. I would surely stop and watch it for hours on end and take photos but the thought of walking up to it and killing it in that setting and in that manner, I guarantee you would not ever cross my mind.
  12. Here is a pic of the first deer he killed during Archery 2011 also shot very cloe to the ithaca City limits and very close to his truck.
  13. EXACTLY THE POINT. However the DEC is not able to prove, besides word of mouth, that the first two deer were in fact harvested by Nash.
  14. I personally do know the hunter and am very good friends with several individuals that have heard the story from the mans mouth first hand. The deer was in fact harvested by legal means, on questionable but supposedly legal ground with a legal implement in season and apparently the right time of day. This is the very same Cornell Golf Course buck that had become symbolic of the Cornell Earn a Buck hunting program. The Cornell EAB program is a QDM program on Cornell University properties, that requires hunters to harvest two does before they can harvest an antlered buck. This very same monster buck had not been shot by at least 3 hunters participating in the EAB program last year because they had not shot their qualifying does. In my eyes those individuals are true sportsman. The Buck was not shot on Cornell property but, supposedly on a small section of the cemetery sitting just outside the Ithaca city limits. Mr Nash was not participating in the EAB program. Mr Nash was also not participating in any effort to reduce the deer population of the Village of Cayuga heights as the man does not eat venison and had not shot any does. The real issue here is that this was the third buck Nash had harvested this year including a very nice nine point taking in the very same location an evening or two prior. Nash was specifically targeting this specific buck when he entered the cemetery that evening even though he had already taken two bucks already. There are no limits to what people are willing to do to get that ivory bone but its not what I consider hunting.
