I live in Rochester and would coordinate an effort in Monroe County and perhaps the Ontario County area.  We also have Board members residing in Horseheads NY.  As more people join up from around the state, my hope is that some would show an interest to do the same.  We know there are more of us out there; the trick is to encourage people with limitations to voice their desire to continue their interest in the outdoors.

Actually I met Lloyd Wiegel at a spring turkey hunt sponsored by the NWTF, Oswego River chapter.  My friend Bill Wilbur is the NY State Volunteer Coordinator for the Wheelin' Sportsmen Program of the NWTF.  I have a photograph on my Facebook page of all who attended that day.  I kept Lloyd's card and one I got later on from another associate that I met at an outdoors show.  When we do recognize a need in Central NY for an outdoor opportunity, I would call on Advanced Strategies Adventures for their support.

Gentlemen, I appreciate your responses. Thank you.  It shows you have empathy for those of us who are frustrated with physical limitations yet want to pursue our interests in the outdoor sports.

  2. Here's a new slant.  She volunteers at a food cupboard that supplies menu items for basically "food kitchens" in New York State.  These same "food kitchens" accept meat for their patrons through the Venison Donation Program.  Maybe our new govenor will have an indirect sympathetic ear for hunters.  Could be we need to lay off the negative and work on the positive?  I think it may ultimately benefit us as sportsmen.  Just my $.02 though.  What do you think?

  3. Physically Challenged Sportsmen of America, Inc. is an organization dedicated to providing support, education, adaptive solutions and recreational opportunities in the outdoor sports of shooting, archery, hunting and fishing for people with limitations due to age, disability or service duty.

We will also maintain a clearinghouse of information for related techniques, goods and services.

    Guys –

Like you, many people have a friend or family member who has a mobility restriction due to age, disability, or service mishap. Some people rely solely on these relationships to get out into the woods or on the water. Others attempt to maintain their independence by going it alone. Most of us fall somewhere in between usually asking for help in scouting or retrieval of game.  Be supportive of your family member by offering your assistance if sincere. Tell him about our site. He may like to hear of methods and others who are coping.

The officers on our Board of Directors have been busy working to set up outdoor outings.  A turkey hunt is definitely on in Missouri next spring thanks to our VP Tony Clapp.  Plans are being considered for a variety of hunts and fishing outings including a varmint hunt for coyotes here in Region 8 probably in the Horseheads NY area.  Our activities have attracted two major equipment sponsors so far.  Their contributions will help in our fund raising efforts.  We hope to soon complete the paperwork necessary to secure our 501©(3) non-profit status from the IRS so as to make donations tax deductible.

I decided to keep you updated, as requested, by making a post in the General NY Clubs and Organizations forum.  Additional information about PCSA may be found there.  Let me say that I appreciate your interest and warm wishes. Thank you. I made a complete post on the Introductions forum on 7/1/10. That post should tell you enough about me. What we are doing can best be described by checking out the PCSA web (www.pcsaonline.com) site. That is our means of keeping those interested, from all over the country, updated.

    Thanks again for the interest,

    Rob Moss

  4. Not here yet?  Welcome to the site anyway.  Greece is just (North) up the road from Gates, so we'll be neighbors.  I know how it is moving into an area that maybe new to you.  If you want , send me an email [email protected] when you get settled.  We can grab a cup of  coffee and speak of things outdoors like freshwater fishing, spring turkey hunting, bowhunting, equipment and more.

    DOCTORS vs. GUN OWNERS  Doctors

    (A)  The number of physicians in the USA is 700,000.

(;)  Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000.

©  Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Now think about this:

    Guns

    (A)  The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.

    (B)  The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.

©  The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .0000188

    Statistics courtesy of FBI

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

FACT:  NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT almost everyone has at least one doctor.

This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner!!!

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.

We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Out of concern for the public at large, we withheld the statistics on

lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention!

  6.   My friends -

I beg you to keep my lady in your prayers.

We just learned Barb has Stage III esophageal cancer. Because the cancer has spread into lymph nodes, surgery is not the preferred means to combat it. We are meeting with a doctor next week to discuss alternate treatments to surgery. Chances for a total cure without surgery are 10-15% still we try to remain optimistic.

At this point, there is no way to predict how I may continue to be supportive to her. Frankly, my interests and hobbies are secondary. Absence from here may be obvious and hunting is doubtful. I will make it a point to keep you current however.

    Thank you,

    Rob

  7.   Paulie and Bleitten04 -

First let me say that I appreciate your interest and warm wishes. Thank you. I made a complete post on the Introductions forum on 7/1/10. That post should tell you enough about me. What I am doing can best be described by checking out the PCSA web (www.pcsaonline.com) site. That is our means of keeping those interested updated. Like you, many people have friends or family who have mobility restrictions due to age, disability, or service mishap. At one end, some rely solely on those relationships to get out into the woods or on the water. At the other end, others attempt to maintain their independence by going it alone. Most fall somewhere in between usually asking for help in scouting or retrieval of game. Be supportive of your family member by offering your assistance if sincere. Tell him about our site. He may like to hear of methods and others who are coping. When PCSA does stage an event, we will need some good able-bodied people to be there for those needing some assistance. It may mean a morning or a day in turkey or deer season when you are not hunting yourself or a summer weekend day helping out during a fishing adventure. If you are willing to trade a little of your time for the “feel goods” of lending a hand, shoot ([email protected]) me an email.

  8. Hey thanks for the response and kind word.  A lot of people read this post but you are the only one to reply.  I expect people generally think that ATVs will tear up their property badly.  In truth those of us who require an ATV to access hunting areas are very conscientious because we want to continue using the privledge.  When you're ready, we'll be here.

PCSA became a NY not-for-profit corporation as of 9/1/10.  Soon we will submit the IRS application for our 501©(3) nonprofit designation.  Already we have a few known sponsors wanting to associate with our effort.  The interest in the website is growing with members on the way.  We even have a few offers to donate hunts.

    Thanks again for the interest,

    Rob

  9. Some sportsmen I know have physical limitations due to disability, advanced age, or service mishap.  If you have ever thought of having a section for outdoorsmen with limitations but decided not to because of one reason or another then I invite all interested parties to log on to my (www.pcsaonline.com) site.  It is for sportsmen with limitations and also for their supportive family and friends.  Able-bodied members wanting to experience the intrinsic satisfaction of helping others are always welcome too.  We attempt to educate and motivate people who think they can no longer get out that it can be done with common sense applications.

The check is in the mail for the application to NY state in order to create a nonprofit entity called Physically Challenged Sportsmen of America Inc.  Our hope is to stage several outdoor opportunities each year for hunters and anglers who would like to associate with others faced with similar challenges.  After participating in such an event, they may recognize means of enjoying the outdoor sports more fully either alone or with friends.

If anyone wants more information or has a question then please feel free to email me ([email protected])  directly.  I appreciate this chance to get the word out, thank you.

    Rob

  10. Welcome. Your post stirred some fond memories.  I use to love hunting cottontails behind my uncle's beagles.  You say you hunt rabbit in Maine.  Do you by chance know my friend Bob Howe at Pine Grove Lodge in Bingham?  He's one master guide who is an ardent rabbit hunter, deer hunter, and fly fisherman.
