  1. I think this is a real concern considering the state of the economy. To date, our costs associated with the purchase of huting licnses has been a bargain. Look at the cost of hunting licenses in CT and in other states. We are not immune from increased fees and the DEC has not definitively said that fees will remain constant. The hunting community represents an untapped source of revenue for the state to draw from. Get ready to pay more for the privelege to hunt.
  2. I saw that too. However, that is too generic. Along with the license their must be a litany of applicable terms and conditions.
  3. You can be sure that the DEC has legal options and case law on their side. I did a quick google search to see if I could come up with the "terms and conditions" pertaining to the lifetime hunting license to no avail. As far as changing the terms and conditions of a hunting license, the DEC could perhaps argue that changes in the terms and conditions are in the DEC/State's best interest in so much that they are needed to comply with their state mandate. In any event, lets wait and see what happens before giving ourselves a case of "agita".
  4. For attorneys chaos is cash. I would tend to argue that a such a license being a privelege grants the DEC the power to make any changes to the terms of the license as they see fit.
  5. What we truly need to settle this argument is some enlightening words from Mr.VJP.
  6. I love all the generalizing you do, its classic. Allowing that 1.5 to walk will help allow for a natural sex / age structure for the herd and has numerous benefits. Bigger, meatier (body mass), healthier bucks and help move to a move natural buck to doe ratio. Helps reduce the trickle rut, which causes late born fawns. Just because yearling bucks are capable in breeding doesnt mean they should be the sole ones doing it. If you read about deer biology, in a balanced herd the 1.5's only knock up about 1/3 of the does. Seems to me if you target the older bucks, the 1.5 yr old bucks will still be breeding at the same rate or perhaps even more. Look at Pa, AR led to HR. As Steve said, the DEC wants deer killed. John, if AR can be tailored to a specific DMU's where real deer numbers could be controlled (and accounted for) and the habitat could support a given poipulation, AR may suit the plan. However, since hunters do not report their kills the DEC cannot accurately estimate the deer population in a given area. AR just for the sake of appeasing a particular group without sound research, in the long run will perhaps be a mistake. AR ultimately will result in HR. I can hear the complaints already (No deer).
  7. Another hijacked thread, must be the work of Somali pirates.
  8. These surveys remind me of the TV show, the Family Feud. As the host says "top one hundred answers are on the board" For anyone who has watched the show and played along, the answers to the questions are for the most part irreverent. Perhaps they could indicate where the survey was taken and what target group was polled to reach such conclusions. Surveys undertaken by the DEC, based upon a finite sample where a particular target group are polled mean very little to me. As many have posted to this site (ad nauseum), the DEC should extend to all license buyers the opportunity to cast a vote. Anything less is unacceptable and cannot be taken seriously.
  9. Have'nt you figured it out as to why no one but me has responded to this post. We all think you are are "NUTS". Get a grip Pal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I recommend that you see the doctor who is treating you for your mental disorder and have him/her prescribe a different medication.
  11. For "God Sakes", 500 feet is a more than a reasonable threshold. We are splitting hairs with this!
  12. You can scratch me off the list of suspects, I still have all my hair. In order for me to do that, you will need to provide me with front and back photos of your head. We are cleaning things up around here as you know, and are starting to require several forms of proof to anything anyone says. LOL I can photoshop one of the images in the video, but I would probably catch hell for it.
  13. What you have posted to date does not require interpretation. ???
  14. You would hope that someone reviews the emails and you have nothing to lose by commenting on their plan.
  15. The acknowledgement from the DEC is what one would expect. At least they know there are people out there paying attention to what they published.
  16. You can scratch me off the list of suspects, I still have all my hair.
  17. Thats a scientific fact pertaining to males over the age of 55. ???
  18. Now thats an idea when you consider the average age of a NY deer hunter. Many of us are nearly to the age when such assistance may be necessary.
  19. Good find!!!!!!!!!! Thanks. All NY hunters should be aware of this proposed legislation and urge their state representatives to support it.
  20. http://www.dec.ny.gov/press/[email protected] Contact the DEC and let them know how you feel. The period for commenting on the plan ends on June 28,2011.
