That was about the lamest atempt at humor I ever saw
-
Just because there is still activity does not mean the does are still ready to breed. The bucks will stilll persue them as long as there is a chance. My point was now that does are being seen a lot more, they are not ready to breed. It is still a great time to be out there.

no that is what I like to see, persistence. Nice job and way to hang in there

Ok as some of you may know I got a nice 8 point saturday mornign in the northern zone. I was able to call him in with a bleat can and he was hot to trot. Anyway for the past week or so, I have not seen any deer out feeding while driving around for my job. I do 100 to 200 miles a day. Anyway today, I saw does all over feeding. Anyway as some of you know, during the peak rut, the does head to the woods and hunker down and the bucks stay near them waiting. So I would have to believe that the first round of the rut is pretty much over. In about 25 days, it will go again. Just my personal opinion.

umm no comment I guess

fille dmy buck tag Saturday in gun season. What are you guys waiting for lol
-
how quick did he start pushing it to keep it moving ? I shot a 183 pound 8 point saturday with a 250 grain lead round nose bullet in a sabot. he ran 40 yards and piled up. By the time I walked the 40 yards, he was gone. Double lung pass through. They travel 1500 feet per second. I am guessing he took off right after it, and it kept moving to stay away instead of letting it lie down.

Huntitng is a privelege and it is illegal to give your extra tags to other people. That was all I said Was that easy enough?

actually it is not your right to take what they say, it is a privelege. And if you mail al your unused tags, that is illegal, so you could lose the privelege.

I tried my bleat today the way the video said to. Here are the results. I realize that he would not pass ar, but I could not resist 8 point 183 pounds. he came in behind me at 40 yards with his nse inthe air sniffing after I did 3 round sof bleating 4 times short. His nose was in the air sniffing. I was on the ground and he spottedme and jumped two jumps stopped and started sniffing again. That was his fatal mistake. Oh yeah with the muzzleloader

I love my 70s hawken. I shoot 80 grains of goex ffg and patched round balls. I love it. It is the first gun I took a deer with.
-
the latest report states the shooting actually took place at 6:50 Pm. However the LEGal shooting hours were over at 6:08PM. By the time the shot took place, yeah it was way too dark to shoot whether your eyes were blurry or not.

I just picked up a new T/C impact this week. 229 out the door brand new. I am hoping to shoot it this weekend.

Anyone heading to their Hunting area this weekend? (Halloween Weekend)
bubba replied to burmjohn's topic in Bow Hunting
I will be going to camp Friday afternoon. I am in rifle area in the northern zone, but taking the muzzleloader. I am going to try the rattle bag a bit and maybe some tinks 69. -
I have killed two with a flintlock. One was at about 45 yards the other 60 or so. Both with patched round balls 50 caliber. Very effective
-
according to the whole story, they were hunting at 7:10 pm. It was after hours and they were hunting still
-
my area too makes for a great outlook on hunters

I know I am saying this to the wrong crowd, but how did the people whu hunted before us ever get a deer when they did not have cover scents and camo and a range finder and all the goodies. I am surprised we ever ate venison as kids.

I disagree. The money is in the extra tags and priveleges people buy. You have to buy a regular licene to get the extras. They will always sell regular tags regardless. the ad ons make the money. Case in point muzzleloding. When the extra season started, it was flint o sidelock only and patched round balls with restricted areas, and if you got a deer, you had to use your regular season tag and be done. Only those of us who thought of the sport as a challenge and were to coin a phrase purists participated. So to sweeten the pot, you could purchase more tags to do so which meant you could harvest more deer. That was the states idea in the first place was for population control. Then again to sweeten the pot any projectile and ignition was implemented. Poof before you knew it everyone has a muzzleloader and is paying extra for those priveleges, which means more money to the state. But those same peole would still be buying a regular season tag if that special season had not been stated. So again the money is in the extras. Not to mention the extra money in the federal coffers from all the sales of muzzleloaders and accessories, which NY gets a part of every year. That is one reason Ny will not mess with archery seasons the fear eople will quit buying the extra privelege. However mark my words within 2 years cross bows will be legal durign archery, so then everyone will buy a bow privelege the same as they all did when inlines and scopes became legal for muzzleloading.
