  1. funny you say that. Last year I took an H&R sidekick out for muzzleloading. It was my father in laws. Opening morning of muzzleloading was like a hurricane here. Around 730 it cleared off but the wind was whipping. I told the guys at camp I was going out and would be back by 8 for the 4 wheeler. I go tin the stand around 740. Ten minutes later a big doe walked down the trail right in front of me. She sure tasted good. I sure felt she was sent to me. I put the gun away and hopefully someday I will have a grand child to tell the story about the deer as well as how great their great grandfather was when I give them the gun.
  2. then a trip to the hospital for the wonderful infection. Well worth it for sure

    yes they carry over.

    a great find

Nothing I dislike, I just prefer the more authentic feeling of goex black powder in my cap and flint locks. When I run out, I will switch to pyrodex rs as I feel it is the closest to black powder and more reliable in a sidelock.
  5. there is nothing like the feeling of shooting a deer with a family members gun you have inherited. I have inherited guns from my dad mom and ex father in law. When it happens you really get a feeling you are not alone. I would recommend trying them out.
  6. I went to a pellet stove last year. I burned about 3 tons total last year. I bought a generator for the stove in case of loss of power. Unless you have a wood stove, you lose heat when the power goes out. I have 5 tons in the garage for this winter. Got them for 20o a ton from my local agway hardwood from michigan. I like the idea I can leave for work come home it is still warm in here. My back up heat is a blanket.
  7. I use hornady 139 grain flat base bullets and 40.5 grains of IMR 4895. Deer die right off. I am hoping to find a willing bear Sunday
  8. Ok guys and gals. I am willing to start and facilitate a support group. Who is buying dinner?
  9. I wish I had time to be a hunterholic. I guess I am not as prone to addiction.
  10. I do not consider myself a big dawg, but, I own one in an encore. IMHO it is absolutely the best deer caliber around. I have also heard nothing but good things about the cva scout. If you reload let me know. I have lots of good loads for you to try.
  11. Nope. I usually find 3 or 4 promising places to put stands and stick to them. If I get bored with them, I hunt from the ground. I picture a stand on every tree in the woods lol.
  12. geesh doc relax. It is all good. Your key board must be smoking.

    a great find

or any other scope for that matter

    a great find

OH I iwll keep it open sites. My possible option is maybe a peep site.
  15. Agreed. If the deer do not see it as is the general consensus, just wear it, instead of complaining about the kids ruining your hunt. Most of you have argued the safety features of wearing bo for a while here, and now are arguing against kids hunting because you will have to wear bo. Seems hypocritical to me.
  16. I would wait until the animal either moved in front or to the left. I worked hard at being an ambidexterous shooter for that reason, and never got to the point I was comfortable enough ot take that shot left handed. This is one reason I hunt from the ground most if the time.

cross eyed nine toed 3 nose barbaloot. Second time I have posted about them. Seems there is a comeback
  18. I waited a few days got my super sportsman and got it all except a doe tag of course. But that is nothing new here in the frozen north.
  19. I do not mean to sound silly here, but, when was the last time you saw a headline in the paper hunter killed by bear? You should be more concerned about the other people in the area. I just get that real eerie feeling every once in a while while walking in and out. Kind of like you know you are being watched, but have no clue by what or where. I rarely go in and out of the woods in the dark anymore. I kill more deer between 10 and noon than any time. I hunt the times when everyone else goes to camp to nap. Always has been more successful for me. Even if I go out for the evening, after legal hours, I am on my way back. Usually have enough light to get around.

    a great find

I got it out and shot it today. 50 yards 4 inch groups with old eyes and open sights. 80 grains of goex ffg black powder ox yoke 10 thousandths patch and 490 round balls. Rws caps. I am very happy so far. The only bad part will be grtting more goex. I do have some pyrodex as much as I hate the idea.
  21. lol sorry they are gone.
