  1. "Just curious if you are a treestand hunter?" With bow mostly with gun about half.
  2. "The lack of seeing deer is more about the style of hunting and pesimistic attitude of hunters than any lack of whitetails in NY. " Maybe where you hunt but wher I am there are definitely a lot less deer now then when I started.
  3. The herd reduction plays a huge part in decline of hunters also. I took my son this year and he was out for 4 full days and saw 1 doe with 2 fawns after dusk on his way back one evening. Its hard to believe when you are first starting that there can be a buck(and to some it should be a 2 1/2 year old) ready to come by any minute. There aren't deer!! If you at least see deer there is hope. I don't need to see 10 deer a day but having 2 or 3 a day gives you hope. 5 hunters this past Saturday, fresh snow, 0 tracks. "Don't worry son any minute now we will see something" That lasts only so long. Especially in this day and age of instant gratification.
  4. Not many deer at all, most of the days nothing. Not a lot of shooting either 26 shots opening day 31 on Sunday. After that in never hit double digits. Deer that have been seen were mostly at dusk.
  5. We do. Just unhook the boat and retrieve the duck. Get back and start hunting again. This is on LI in the marshes.
  6. 1 of our turnip plots is getting hit pretty hard it looks. Nothing with a second plot. Deer also must being hitting it at night, nobody has seen a deer in it.
  7. A correction. I did watch 4 deer, 2 doe and 2 fawns behind my neighbors house a few afternoons from one of my stands. Probably a 1/2 mile away. Don't have a pin for that!
  8. I go with a 1. Deer weren't there for any of us at camp. No deer were seen from our stands only still hunting! But there also wasn't anything, no coyotes (not a bad thing), no squirrels, no chipmunks! If we were lucky we would see a few small finches or whatever they are. You know its bad when we talk about the birds we see.
  9. I'm ready going up for a few more days of bow first. My whole family will be up. Will be my sons first opening day, football always seemed to get in the way but not this year fortunately and unfortunately.
  10. we have some nibbling on the turnips and leaves are just starting to get eaten. They ate a lot more last year. Still needs a deep cold not just a frost or two is what I think.
  11. I ended up just reinstalling windows. Like having a new computer! Just couldn't get anything to run. Not that computer savvy tho.
  12. They will not mess with the gun season because that's when the deer get killed!!
  13. I got hit security tool also. Will try above recommendations when I have the time.
  14. My brothers and I saw some doe this week. Watched them in a foodplot. No bucks to be found.

    Coyotes

Only saw one this weekend. The woods came alive with howling when the fire horns went off at 6:30 in the morning
  16. I also believe it HAS to be last years tag in Sept.? Is this correct?
  17. I agree Steve, I have a knife right on my chest in case I am ever dangling. Knowing you are going to fall after cutting the rope isn't nearly as bad as unexpectedly falling. I mentioned this at my sons safety class a few years back and was pretty much told how stupid it was by the instructors. Oh well they can hang there I'm cutting myself down.
  18. growalot, you are wonderful everything perfect. Take a lesson from Scot
  19. growalot, You are always available, never have you not been available? You must have fun hunting answering every call that comes in. Then I stand corrected.
  20. Doesn't anybody get along with their neighbors. What if a shot deer ran onto your property and they couldn't get in touch with you? Let the deer rot?
  21. 37 feeding deer is longest, 4 shortest. I also try to set up for 20 yard shot.
  22. If someone I am hunting with is still hunting or just going for a walk I will try and setup where I think deer will move to. Thats pretty much the extent of drives that we do.
  23. 4F also. But there's not lots of deer by us. 4F is just too big to be one unit.
  24. "I take it off so I am not spotted" Interesting!
