  1. it will, just give it time... or change something if its not working...odly enough my first deer ever was a buck with my bow,,,, not often that that happens and im thankful for that.... adapt, learn, and love mother nature, what its all about.. if this could be my full time job i would be in heaven... if i could give any advice for a bowhunter it would be find the most freshly used trails and set up on them....
  2. pure bliss my man, pure bliss... first season up here n felt like i had the place to myself during bow unlike where i come from... felt like the deer could move naturally and i saw a good amount... i can't wait for next years bow! dialed in my bow spots now and next years gonna be a killer!
  3. you actually inadvertently proved my point,,,, people get all bent out of shape about bow, but it is harder given the circumstances.. but i feel because of that, a bow hunter is a more dedicated/ethical woodsman taking the time to scout scout scout, put in the time, master scent control and wind to get em in close, and appreciate a kill more than just a gun hunter.... sorry for those of you who are gun hunters only who are legit, but i feel that a good majority of the masses are weekend warriors who expect to buy orange the day before season, a deer cart, some rounds, and walk outa the woods the next day with a deer.. for some yes it does happen that way, but by luck.... not like the rest of us who put in the time and work before and during archery to put that deer on the ground.... now im not talking to ya'll like me who are bow hunters first and gun hunters second... i'm talking to the guys who pick up the gun but a few times a year and one of them being opening day of gun...
  4. congrats, nice doe... good shot too! same here, bow hunted hard shot three doe's, couldn't find one unfortunately, two encounters with my #1 buck within 30 yds, couldn't get a shot, grrrrr, saw deer nearly every sit, and finally last sit of archery i decided to take a four point that kept strollin by for some freezer meet, havn't seen a deer since!!! headin out to state land in wyoming co. for so i can bust out the rifle and hope i get lucky... ran a cam out there all summer and have some bruits on it, but i doubt they stuck around after this weakend, but ya never know...
  5. sooo.... what ya'll been seein? Hunted 8G state land saturday and sunday... Never saw a deer.... plenty of fresh tracks, a new rub that wasn't there friday eve. Nocturnal it is for now, sounded like armagedan !!! Guy next to me shot five times in a row?!? how have you all been faring ?
  6. good point, especially if you only have state land to tromp around on... feel like every spot i go to there is some orange there... went to three spots saturday evening and couldn't find a place by myself... by that time i through a dart at the map and went. hell i even sat down in the third spot for half hour and stood up cause i wasn't feelin it and there was a dude 40 yds behind me... never even bothered to say hey im over here... glad we didn't try to shoot the same deer if it had walked up. at this point you'd be hard pressed to see a deer, so when you do, BANG! during archery i have no problem passing up deer cause i know im gonna see more, but now its just luck of the draw to see em... glad i still have a DMP to burn cause i hate shooting little bucks... but as a broke gradschool student im not scared to put meat in the freezer either...
  7. I hear ya! Opening day sounded like WWIII... If ur hunting public land well good luck... Maybe the last week or so after the masses have slowed down, but not lookin good, I saw plenty of deer during archery and frankly wouldn't mind living in a bow only county, less impact for sure...
  8. I sure do! Had a pretty good bow season , shot three doe's , unfortunately lost one of em on opening day, shot a buck, had two encounters with one of my hitlist bucks, and saw deer nearly every sit... Saturday sounded like opening day of duck season on lake okechobee back home in Florida n havnt seen a deer since! First gun season up here n never seen so much orange in the woods in all the years I've been hunting, guess u guys r used to it, but dam! I couldn't believe archery, felt like I had the whole place to myself! Be back out with the rifle in Wyoming county Wednesday n see if I can make it a two buck season... Good luck from here on out... Feel like the seasons pretty much capoots already with all that hell fire... Can't wait till bow next year!!! Stay safe... Joey
  9. Sure is, feel like the seasons pretty much over already after how much shooting went on yesterday ... They ain't gettin outa bed unless it's dark!
  10. definitely a stud, has some nice mass in his beams ... congrats
  11. Back for the afternoon hunt, went to three spots and orange everywhere ... The fourth I sat down for bout a half hour and didn't like it, turned around n some old guy was 40 yds behind me never saw him walkin in. Didn't even bother to tell me he was there. I know he had to have heard me come in... So all out of options for right now so I threw a dart at the map... Not Optomistic for this evening...
  12. Man I miss bow season already! Shot two deer outa this stand and passed quite a few others, and let it rest for two weeks, still havnt seen a flip in thing
  13. Good lord , sounds like opening day of duck season around here.... Shooting finally dying off, still havnt seen anything, guy to my left 500 yds off shot four times ... Seems to me if ya don't hit em in 2 what the hell r u shooting at?!?
  14. I've heard one already as well, the weather center says sunrise at 7:10 by me... Otherwise cold and calm... Had to bust my way through ice in knee high water for 50 or so yds , that was interesting! Good luck guys!
  15. I have as my first bow and still shoot the bear strike @ 70 lbs.. Taken many deer with it, as soon as I get the funds though HOYT it is , I think Mathews and Hoyt are neck n neck these days but the Hoyt's are so light and very well balanced and the grip seems to melt in your hand , and are ever so smooth drawing , letting down, and upon release... Can't wait till I can afford one! But with today's modern bows, find one u can afford and feel comfortable with , they all kill deer very well if u practice and know ur set up ' !
  16. Recently picked up a CVA wolf Had to play around with loads but.. The best so far with the time n funds I had 300 gr power belt aerolites 150 gr Hodgkin peletts Winchester 209's
  17. just got back from takin the pooch for a stroll around the neighborhood and had a 6 pt cross the street right in front of me, then a doe, then another little buck, round the corner looking out into golden rod field and there is a doe standing there at 20... then tines tines tines stand up from the brush, sat there n watched them for better part of 20 minutes, if she moved he would move. he was not letting her go anywhere, so im sayin tomorrow looks like it should be good, nice weather, cold... can't wait to stick that nine point thats given me the slip twice already with the bow... good luck tomorrow guys!
  18. ditto, i don't find it to be too bad here in NY for state land, this is my first season up here from Florida, and i've shot two doe's and a buck with a couple of other bucks that might meet their maker come saturday on state land... I have only come across one other hunter the whole season back where i go, but im for sure not lazy... ! and don't mind strappin on the hip waders to get back to my spot that NObody cares to go but has great sign back there, and its all mine! but that said for bow season, and i hear gun is crazy up here, but im still confident that there will be no one willing to venture back in that far cause not to harp on gun hunters, but "most" that do not bow hunt as well are lazy and don't put in as much time and effort to get to those outa the way spots, and really research their deer like bow hunters do.... hell in florida opening archery on public land is crazy all the way through gun as well, seems like every five feet there's a truck and then the buggy's are drivin all over the place wherever they please, so I like the change of pace up here and have found a quiet spot with a lot of deer..... GO DEEP OR GO HOME is my motto i've lived by so far until my body doesnt allow it...
  19. personally i have yet to see a buck following any doe's here in 8G... i've seen doe's and i've seen bucks, but never together at the same time this past week... lot a scrapes and rubs though... shot a buck last night all by his lonesome just strollin by without a care in the world... and i've got a good spot on state land that requires a little doin and some hip waders to get to so im all by my lonesome back there so pressure isn't the culprit in this case... hopin saturday all the lazy's will push all the deer back in deep to me!
  20. Oh ya, and got the cops called on me here in Amherst for quartering my deer in the back corner (out of the way) parking spot in the bed a my truck ..... Cops said "well ur not doin anything illegal cause u have a tag for it.".. Friken tree huggin mother u know what''ers
  21. I know , I know, its not the monster of our dreams... but the big nine point that gave me the slip twice in the last 2 weeks did not show his face, and with this being the last day i could make it out for bow, I decided to put some meat in the freezer... i'll be back out for that 9, and he wont put the slip on me next time with the ML in my hand!
