  1. you---"No the high road was the fact thae he is just trying to sell some land and is getting killed for what might or might not be a salt lick. Even if it is so what, get rid of it if you buy the land! "

Our definitions of "condoning" must be different. Indifference to illegal activities is condoning.

You forgot to make bold the next few words where I said GET RID OF IT. In no way was that saying it was ok. Remember the dectectives here have not proven whether or not it is a salt lick. Not know the guy I have to take him for his word that it isn't a salt lick, but again if it is SO WHAT Just get rid of it.

  2. You are wrong Doe, We should hug them into a new vision in life. Lawbreakers aren't bad people, Their plight in life has forced them into those actions.

Really? Please show me one post in this thread where anyone broke the law, said they would willingly break the law or condone anyone breaking the law.

  3. I will add you don't have to break the bank on your first bow. You might find out that you don't like the sport. They are plenty of quaity bows out there for under $600. Focus on good arrows and a release you comfortable with. A good bow shop can help you with the arrows and should let you try different releases. Another thing that I find invaluable is a good range finder with build in ARC. It's very easy to miss calculate distanse whether on the ground of in a tree.

  4. No, you won't because you will be embarassed. You will just never respond.

Childish respone! Again this thread was about selling land. The guy was attacked about an unconfirmed salt lick. I just didn't get all the hostility toward him or the post. I simple post stating if that was a salt lick he might want to think about getting it off the property prior to putting it on the market. Instead his mine and several others moral and hunting ethics were attacked. I have 30 some posts on this site. I have no history for you or anyone else to make an assuption of my character. Sites like these are for people with common intersts to talk about and share opinions on an activity we are ALL suppose to enjoy, there is enough outside forces ready to attack us all the time. If any of them lurk this type of sites, threads like this and the attacks give them ample ammunition to use against us! Again telling someone it is an illeagal practice is good, if he comes back and says I don't care I will hunt over what ever I want then he doesn't deserve to be called a hunter and isn't worth my time, but the attacks dished out here were totally undeserved!

BTW I'll respond I have nothing to be embarassed about. I have never or will I knowingly break a law, nor did I defend the use of bait in any form. Besides after reading the reg from the DEC that wnybuckhunter posted pretty much states that it's not allowed.

  5. virgil, this isnt support of baiting?

People telling us to "shut up" or "give it a rest" because we are calling someone out on baiting is also indirect support of baiting as well as far as Im concerned.

Get over your self Sir, did you not see the haha at the end of that? That post was in response to all the folks jumping all over the guy just trying to sell his property.

BTW the Hunting guide I just got with my tags says:

    Manner of Taking

    It is unlawful to:

    • Take big game while the deer or bear is in water.
    • Possess a firearm of any description when bowhunting or when accompanying a person bowhunting during special archery seasons.
    • Make, set or use a salt lick or other attractants, whether blocks, liquid or power that contaions ANY amount of salt, upon lands inhabited by deer or bear anytime of the year.

The is under manner of taking. If I'm reading this correctly, if I buy a piece of property and NEVER have any intensions of hunting or let anyone else hunt and would just to see deer I may put salt lick out.

Just to clarify I do not condone of have ever broken a hunting law, hell I have never even gotten a speeding ticket. So you might want to be careful who you accuse of whatever espeacilly when you don't know someone.

Have have been to a lot of site and don't usually see type of attacks on someone who is just trying to sell land. We can't even confirm that it is or isn't a salt luck and he said he never hunts it! Usually Moderators are suppose to police this kind of behavior not be the attacker. Could have been a nice site oh well, see ya!

  6. He broke the law, he should be given the third degree from his fellow sportsmen. Im not saying we should call the DEC or anything like that, but we shouldnt let stuff like that slide. Its a disservice to the sport.

I suggest you get a better grasp on what the high road is.

It's only illeagel to put a salt lick or mineral rock out on any property you intend to hunt. He said he daoen't hunt the property. If this is a salt lick and it's hard to tell from the picture and he said " I have spot many deer from this spot, then yes it is a disservice to the spot, but he didn't. He is just trying to sell a piece of land.

BTW I thank you NOT to question my hunting ethics. I have the highest respect for this sport have taught my sons and nephews to be as ethical as possible when it comes to hunting and life in general, my job requires strong ethics and high morals. Then again it's easy to attack someone when it's not face to face. The comments to this thread prove it.

  7. Hmmm, I wasnt aware the high road consisted of breaking the game laws.

Its funny to me when people post illegal stuff and then get all bent out of shape when they get called on it.

Im pretty sure most people started out just ribbing a little, till the op came back on and tried to insinuate that we are idiots and cant tell the difference between a block shape and an ink blot or some random shape. Instead of taking the real high road and admitting their mistake, the op continued to deny deny deny. Its like a repeat of a few other threads in the past.

No the high road was the fact thae he is just trying to sell some land and is getting killed for what might or might not be a salt lick. Even if it is so what, get rid of it if you buy the land! It's not like that is the only reason wildlife would be on this property. If the mineral rights come with the property 40 acres for &25,000, good deal. my God what did he do wrong to take this kind of abuse? Did he say he was hunting over it?

  8. lol kgun, actually I was trying to see how I can post some video clips from the same camera to put this to rest but gave up, think I am done tryihg to sell on this forum, will pursue the MLS thing instead, happy hunting or pic examining to all and best of luck

Do you live close to the property? I would like to check it out! if you don't want to post here anymore PM me!

  9. Oh, almost forgot the important stuff (easy to do when someone questions your ethics). There are no gas mineral leases etc to my knowledge. There is an old right of way mentioned on the deed from when the land was subdivided in the past to allow the former owner to his farm. I have never seen anyone use this and believe it may be obsolete.

For those of you who are looking for more than 40 acres' one of the neighbors offered to sell me his 13acre adjacent but landlocked parcel last year. I kept his contact info as I seriously considered it but as I stated previously I ended up buying a 115 acre farm up north.

I commend you for taking the HIGH road on this, my complements!

I would be interested in looking at the land. I hope I can put a treestand RIGHT UNDER THST SALT LICK!!! haha!

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't post land for sale on this site, everyone is so NICE?

  10. There is no choice, it has to be Romney! O.B. had 4 years and look how much worse off we are, the debt how big the unions are and all the empty promises O.B. made. Yea I know people will say he was given a mess from Bush. Here's what i say to that...if any company bring in a new CEO to "fix the company: and after 4 years he/she is still blaming the last boss the shareholders will fire him. At some point O.B. must take responsiblity for the mess. He had no experience when he was elected and it is showing now! People wanted a change they got change, but socialism was it. Yes socialism, government own banks, 2 out of 3 big auto companies, the health care system, redistribution of wealth. If you care to check Webster the definition of SOCIALISM IS: a theory by which the means of production and distribution are owned by society rather than by indivduals 2. a political movement for establishment of such system. It's OK to admit a mistake! Let not even discuss what the democrats want to do with our guns. REMEMBER NO republican in national office has introduced more gun control laws!... and don't talk about Doomberb from New York City...he is from NYC and not a national politican Not to mention National security, if you haven't already you need to watch the video from my post #67 that is appauling! If you hunt or enjoy guns again there is no choice. You can say what you want but there are a lot of judges that need to be appointed and I would rather have a republican making those appointments! Are guns hunting anfd gun right are at stake. Remember what Japan said when asked why they didn't invade after peal Habour, too many Americans own guns! O.B. is in bed with the U.N. and they want to disarm America, WHY think about it. Disarm America easier to take over!

  11. How does the girl friend fit into how you spend YOUR money? If she controls your money now God forbid if you marry her. lol! Take it from me just had our 30th anniversary on the 14th, buy a good gun you be happy about it later. Like mlammerhirt said she might not be around come hunting season! Good luck!

  12. The thing is that the person behind the counter is only following store policy. They most likely don't know why thier doing it., so no point in arguing with them. Kind of like arguing with a child or a brick wall.

Ask to see a manager, ask him to show you the law that allows them to ask for a permit. Then if they can't produce it again don't get mad tell them you are going somewhere else. and write a letter or email the coporation. We need to be or become proactive! If we just keep taking it and act like we are wrong or doing something wrong we will looked at as being or doing wrong. We need to remember this is a right granted to us by the constitution if we keep accepting these kind of treatment we get what we deserve! Watch Unlce Ted he is becoming the voice of gun rights, and he speaks plain language, he isn't nasty just says it like it is. We are acting like the victims AND WE ARE NOT!

  13. This is from another site. The person who wrote this is a instructor at a seld defense, gun training and NRA instructor. This is what you need to know and do the next time you are asked to show a permit:

Recently, there has been a rash of reports from students about the following: When you go to buy ammo, the store asks you for your permit, takes it, writes down your name, permit number, and amount of ammo purchased in some 'book'.

    THIS IS NOT LEGAL

Although any store can place any restriction or policies on the sale of any item to any person as long as they do not discriminate under the federally protected criteria, some are going way above and beyond.

    From the BATF:

Q: Are the ammunition record-keeping requirements the same as for firearms?

A: No. No records are required for ammunition other than armor piercing ammunition. Disposition records must be kept by licensed manufacturers, importers, and collectors for transactions in armor piercing ammunition.

    [27 CFR 178.125]

No retail store is required to collect ANY info regarding the sale or transfer of ammunition. Some have even made copies (front and back) of the permit as well.

NY State law requires you to be 21 to buy pistol ammo. There is no mention of a permit. If you go to get ammo and they ask you for anything more than 'possibly' to look at your permit, not take it from you and copy any info from it, then ask to see a manager. Ask them why they need to do what they are asking. If they say anything like "It's a law" then have them prove it. Show you the "law". (Don't worry, it does not exist)

It's one thing to have ridiculous policies that do not make sense, but it is a whole other level to pass the buck and say that "It's a law" when it is not. They are preying on the fact that we are all too milling to 'fall in line' when someone says "It's a law. You have to do this" when we don't even have the idea to actually verify.

Obviously, you could be faced with a couple outcomes: They stick to their policy and you can't get the ammo unless you provide what they ask, they give in and allow you to purchase the ammo without you having to provide the irrelevant info, or you simply walk away and refuse to give them your money.

    Just keeping you informed.

  14. Kgun, Dont mess with your 401K, you have a lot of retirement years ahead. Try a home equity line of credit. These usually cost nothing to set up. If you can't swing the 20% down from HELOC and your savings, maybe you shouldn't be getting into a long term financial committment on this property. You might be getting in over your head. Don't risk financial security for one property, there will be others within your limits.

This is just my opinion as a very financially conservative person.

You make a lot of sense and I know this. It is 250 acres with a rough 4 bedroom rough cabin, no electricity there is a well and the price is $125,000! They are trying to get out of it because they just don't use it and are having trouble selling it do to the economy.

  15. Well ......how good is the family situation?...can they swing it with you paying back with going rate interest?...do you have any other things you could put up for just the amount need to cover down?...then again...that pops up in the records and loan might not go throughis there a realtor involved...if not all kinds of arrangements can be made...

The family is an option and there is no realtor involved, so I will look at everything! We have only had 2 conversations so it's still early. I will try everything!
